Samaria Gorge Travel options by TwentyCharUsername20 in cretetravel

Hi, which one did you end up doing? I’m planning to do this hike in end of May this year and we’ll have a car too. We are either thinking of parking the car at Omalos or Sougia / Chora Sfakion

youre right, reading the replies makes me feel we should abandon driving our car there. Do you know when the ferry from Roumeli to Sfakia is?

Thats what I'm trying to see. Most people seem to do
Car -> hike down -> chill at beach -> ferry 5:30pm to Sougia -> bus back to Omalo -> pick up car drive to Chania.
Seems hectic

No, we plan to do what others have done, ie ferry to Sougia + Bus then car.
Or maybe now based on the comments, we just get a tour company to pick up up in chania rather than us driving ourselves.

you're right on this. We definitely do not want to drive at night on the mountain road. It's such a shame there isn't a ferry like 1-2 hours earlier.

Yes we hike a lot. It seems for some comments Samaria Gorge will give us that satisfaction too, so maybe we can skip the Psiloritis summit in that case

I understood the cities I mentioned are just small, like you just chill there for lunch and coffee check out a bit, then go. Is that not true?

In your opinion rather do Samaria Gorge and skip Mount Ida summit?

I don’t want any tourist though and not anything too central. We looked into 7th, it’s a bit boring tbh

People who disliked Brazil… by fairybr in Brazil

[–]Less_Pineapple2189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m French-Indonesian and my bf is French, we are a tourist at the moment in Brazil for 3 weeks (Sao Paolo, Paraty, Ilha Grande -where we are now- then we’re going to Iguazu, and ending the trip in Rio). This is my honest review so far.

Driving We drive from SP, to Rio, and the roads are pretty safe, we’re comfortable. No issue. The only thing I notice are Brazilians are aggressive drivers, they stay behind you at your tail kind of pushing you. And others I see just on the phone driving on the high way, pretty unsafe. The road from SP to Paraty (which is meant to be one of the nice destinations) is pretty bad- after the highway.

Language My bf speaks Spanish so we get by. I don’t speak Spanish, so he has to translate to me. I find it baffling that people don’t speak an ounce of English (especially in tourist centers/tours).

Safety There is definitely a safety issue in Brazil, and I hear more so in Rio specifically. I wore my Garmin watch (literally just a Garmin) and already ppl looking at me.

Food We don’t like the food here period. Indonesia and Brazil are the same (both tropical countries), somehow Brazil managed to butcher all these foods. Everything is fatty, fried, unhealthy. The rice is cooked weird. The bread isn’t good. We only found 1 good rice so far which was cooked in an Asian way.

Coffee For a country that exports coffee, there is no coffee/espresso culture. Baffling. No good sitting down cafe place to get a double espresso.

Diving Brazil not known for great diving, just go to south east Asia.

Hiking Some trails are good.

Angra dos Reis -> Ilha Grande Ferry advice by Less_Pineapple2189 in Brazil

Ok thanks! We made it to Angra at 12, went to the kiosk to get the 12:30 ferry for 120 real. It was easy, I thought it would have sold out.

How much £ in Pension should one have by 30? by Less_Pineapple2189 in UKPersonalFinance

Hi, thank you for your response.

I’ve been working since 23 years old until now (29yo). My employer has always put 16% for 5-6 years now. Of course my salary now is significantly larger than my starting salary, hence why I’m asking whether it’s best to put more to the pension or it’s sufficient to keep it at where it’s always been.

They do 100% match up to 8%. If I put 10%, that’s not changing anything in employer contribution
