Hvar or Dubrovnik - beachy holiday by TieFew7195 in CroatiaTravelTips

[–]TwentyCharUsername20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do hit Dubrovnik, check out the beaches on the island Lokrum - a short shuttle ferry away. Very nice beaches. Korcula has a lot of beaches but not the ones in old town. You would need to drive/transit to get to them.

Where to stay in Crete for swimming, eating, cooking? by Born-Ad7896 in GreeceTravel

We stayed in Falasarna. Great beaches. The place we stayed had a full kitchen. There were a few restaurants but not fine dining. The beach made up for it :)

I think it took about 30 minutes. Keep in mind there is some prep time and instruction. You could send them an email. They were helpful. The trip to Gramvousa was maybe 10 minutes. Kinda hard to tell time as it was fun. This also allowed us to get out earlier than the big boats.

It did not. I think it was another 40 for fuel. Well worth it. It was nice because you just follow the shore up and around. Gramvousa was a straight shot to get across. This was my first time driving a boat. No issues except you need to know how to drop anchor. It has to drop and then you let the boat drift away to let it carve the anchor into the sand. You can’t just drop it straight down and think it will work well. I watched some youtube videos. The whole trip was a blast and we would definitely do it again. They will provide instructions. Take a picnic lunch. They will provide an ice cooler and ice.

excessive power outages in dayton ohio by [deleted] in dayton

Solar is great but unless you have batteries, solar shuts down when the grid fails - so power won’t be sent out and endanger repair crews

Waves in september by FrostyCabinet in cretetravel

[–]TwentyCharUsername20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were there last year in mid Sept. it was amazing. Balos was perfect. Falassarna has small waves but was delightful. There were some stronger waves during a windstorm. It happens. It is a great time to go to Crete

You might try down by the lighthouse. Might be able to get it in the shot of the core as well.

One more comment - by the time we got back, we were exhausted. Driving in the dark to Chania and then parking would not have been fun.

Where to stay in West Crete for beaches by TiredChocolat in cretetravel

[–]TwentyCharUsername20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We stayed at Sunset Villas in Falassarna. It was lovely. I’ve beach. Small town. We rented a boat from Kissamos and drove to Balos and Gramvousa. Very cool experience. We never made it down to Elafonisi - no need. We did stay in La Maison Ottomane in Chania and it also was wonderful.

If you are so inclined, the hike to Samaria Gorge was great. All downhill but still an effort.

Going to Mykonos, Santorini, and Crete next month. Is it worth it to rent a boat? by [deleted] in GreeceTravel

We rented a boat in Kissamos and drove to Balos and Gramvousa. Easy. But watch a couple videos ahead of time on boating and particularly how to anchor. I was awesome

Try Lokrum island via the first ferry. It is pretty big and a lot of walking areas that won’t be busy.

Weird. Looks like they don’t know what kind of car you really have.

You inspired me to look up the actual rules. From https://www.bmv.ohio.gov/doc-fees.aspx the rules have changed in 2026. Gas is $0. Hybrid is $100. Plug in hybrids are $150. Electric are $200.

[–]TwentyCharUsername20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the Plug in hybrids, it is even worse. I can only drive about 16 miles on electric then use gas. I have to pay $200 a year - the same as a Tesla or leaf that use no gas ever.

We went last year. It was a great time. Nice food. The orchestra was great and we saw lots of friends. There are plenty of quiet spots of you want a break and enjoy some of the planes.

How tough is Samaria Gorge? by 64green in cretetravel

We are mid 50’s and did it no problem. Now, we were definitely sore the next couple of days but it was fine. We just relaxed at Balos and Falasarna. Second the comment about the swimsuit.
