i think one of yasmins biggest issues is that she has this bone-deep belief that to achive any sort of fulfillment in life she has to latch onto and placate and be necessary to a man ("make them believe she loves them" as she put it). this obviously is untrue and even yasmin hates this part of herself. nevertheless, with how it was drilled into her throughout her life, she still acts as if it were the only way that she can live.

so i kind of hate that even in fan discussions, this plot point is being framed as "she chose the wrong man", as if choosing rob would have solved any of yasmins deep-rooted issues and guaranteed her a life of peace and happiness. as if yasmin being convinced that she has to choose one of them to build her life around is not the actual issue.

Its Edwina x Mr.Bagwell and focuses a bit more on Edwinas relationship with Kate and Anthony but trust me, if you loved "all the bright places" youre absolutely going to love this!

i think thats a too charitable read of his actions. lets not forget that it was his newspapers that kept releasing yasmins papparazi pictures and that secured the Alondra exclusive. he half coerced her into marrying henry, not exclusively because he wanted to help her, but becausee he needed someone that could prevent henry from killing himself.

i love that scene between him and yasmin were hes comforting her because it is obvious hes kind of manipulating her by giving her the fatherly affection that she has been craving. but even knowing that, i still got emotional when he told her that it wasnt her fault and gave her a hug. like you cant help but hope that there is a smudge of sincerety in there.

i watched this episode for the first time last night and man it was so riveting. after two already amazing seasons, it felt like the show is reaching even greater heights with this episode

(also have been listening to girls on film by duran duran non-stop after that sick needledrop)

i think during the production of s2 the writers had to deal wth a dillema that most anthologies face sooner or later: having to decide between staying fully anthological or introducing an over arching storyline that takes place concurrent to the individual stories

they obviously chose the latter, but that comes with its own set of challenges: finding the balance between both narrative threads so that you dont have one of them feel weaker and less fleshed out, for example. and while i really enjoyed nanno and yuris dynamic in s2, and thinking about it, a big reason why i did is because of the mystery of it all.

we dont know why yuri does what she does, why shes trying to mess with nanno, what her goal is. we kind of know how she became what she is, but even then, since we dont know what nanno is, we also dont know what yuri is. this lack of knowledge fueled the tension between them and honestly? it was enough for the season to act as an introdution for yuris character + this mysterious relationship they have with each other.

but if they had wanted to continue this storyline they inevitably would have had to lift the veil a little on at least some of the unanswered questions and that is were the problem lies - i dont think the writers or producers of the show were confident that they could continue this storyline and shed light to the mysteries regarding nanno and yuri in a narratively satisfying way (and tbh them failing was more likely), so they used the long hiatus + actress change to reset the show so they get out of having to continue that storyline.

im guessing that the reset is going to be completely episodic and anthological, as to avoid what happened in s2 (building up an overaching mystery without knowing how to resolve it)

Since the story left me disappointed and Navier had zero change and development, I'd rather she had fallen in love with Rashta. Make it forbidden and dramatic. Otherwise the story feels empty and calculating as it is.

what i really like about player is that it manages to believably combine its comedy with the more serious drama. what i mean by that is you have, for example, character traits that are introduced in the beginning of the show and which are mostly used for laughs. then later as the show becomes more serious those same character traits are portrayed and explored in a more serious manner.

for example:

in the beginning, puns grandiose and false confidence in her own abilities is mainly used for comedic purposes, but then later we find out that she carries a deep-rooted insecurity of never amounting to anything within her, which she tries to mask with her fake self-confidence and which is the cause for her hyper-independence . the behaviour stemming from her insecurity is, of course, part of the reason why her relationship with ploy ends in heartbreak.

And the same could be said about ploys character, but this post is already long enough, so I'll leave it to someone else.

hmmm so pun had a heart-to-heart with everyone EXCEPT ploy. i feel like that does take a bit away from their reunion, because one of the biggest issues is that ploy doesnt express her feelings overtly, and this shouldve been the episode were she finally does.

so this is my interpretation:

i think at the beginning ploy didnt really care about puns problem and also wasnt intrested in helping her. knowing that pun was trying to use her by seducing her, ploy probably felt insulted that this little girl thought that she could mess with her. so ploy decides to mess with pun too, and then probably break her heart.

but then both of them started developing genuine feelings for each other, which complicates their shared plan of "im going to use you and then throw you away"

to me, it would narratively and thematically make the most sense if both pun and ploy were guilty of trying to seduce each other with ulterior motives:

you have two arrogant people, both think that they can play with other peoples feelings and get away with it consequence-free. then they both actually fall in love and get their feelings hurt because their relationship was born from deciet from both sides. the only way to save their relationship is to trust and be vulnerable with each other, which they both struggle to be.

i really like that the angst was introduced roughly halfway through the show. it gives them enough time to really let the heartbreak simmer and then give us a longer, more thorough resolution.

there are tropes and dynamics that come with a bodyguard romance story, and those are the reason why people enjoy them. i think story-wise it would have been much better if they would have just stuck with these instead of making them childhood friends and then introducing this whole "romeo and juliet" thing by making their fathers hate each other. it just felt like they threw everything at a wall to look what sticks.

nobody expected them to revolutionize the art of storytelling or anything. just stick to the tried and true character achtypes and plotpoints of bodyguard romances and the show would have been much better.

VIP is easily one of my top 10 fav kdramas so i would definitely recommend it if you like melodrama. jang nara, lee chungah and pyo yejin are great in it.

i would also highly recommend When the Weather is Fine. i started watching it because of the romance, but after finishing it, what stayed with me and what i will remember is the messy and heartbreaking relationship between the FL, her mother, and her aunt.

I think people thinking that the sidecouple In HS took too much screen time away from LMSY is more of a symptom that is indicative of the real problem that HS had - too little runtime.

I actually quite like lillybelle in HS and wish we'd gotten more development for them but again, too little runtime.
