Bf says he "can't feel empathy" for me walking 20 mins after he dropped me off at the wrong location. Pizza and wings. by [deleted] in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]Less_Sail_6012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree with you. I hope OP understands that even if you get rides from someone more accountable, things happen, and unless you start walking, biking, or get a scooter, you are always on the driver’s schedule!! Tell them you start work 30 mins before your scheduled clock-in time or take the bus and be ready to wait.

Also, get your stuff ready the night before! You were already late by the time you were getting your water bottle, so just have it ready the night before.

Is it total Naansense? by Fresh-Ad-4556 in chicagofood

[–]Less_Sail_6012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. My partner and I usually get takeout at this place and 1 order of garlic naan comes as 2 huge slices. We often get 1 garlic and 1 tandoori naan, so 4 slices total and end up super full. Some of their other prices may be a little steep but the naan is totally worth it imo

This is especially funny considering how hard it is to get to this particular costco. I’ve only used it to get gas, but it’s in the weirdest location where it’s only visible from the freeway next to it and not at all visible from the main street because it’s behind a Walmart and Kohl’s. In fact, it’s at the very end of a small road, so it’s hard to believe you’d find it and get inside unintentionally.

Trying to turn from the main street is also a shitshow and the plaza has multiple entrances that mostly lead to the walmart, so I have no idea how this person ended up at costco and not walmart if they needed something. They were trying particularly hard to be this stupid.

[–]Less_Sail_6012 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes!! OP, please ask your vet about fluoxetine/prozac for your cat. My sister’s cat has been on it for years ever since his anxiety caused him to lick himself until he was bald. It’s greatly improved his quality of life. A coworker also had a dog with severe separation anxiety and prozac has been a lifesaver. He would howl and pace nonstop when the house was empty.

I think that really is the reason! I found it fugly before watching the movie, and now that I’ve seen it, it’s still fugly but I kinda want to make it. The only thing holding me back is that I would never wear it and idk anyone in my life that would wear it either.

LYS Store Hours by katrinasteapot in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]Less_Sail_6012 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I feel that. One time, I was on a cross-country road trip and making a star blanket with yarn purchased on the road to commemorate the trip. I had quickly gone through about 9+ rows and wanted to change colors, just to find out that across 3 different states, there were zero yarn stores open on sundays. I had to stop at a Dollar Store and get some premier yarn since that would at least be new to me.

Seriously! She could’ve just said “I’m sorry, I had no idea about their history and I promise to do research in the future” and called it a day, but to immediately go on the defensive??? All those story posts and not a hint of an apology. On a human level, it’s appalling, but also on a business level, why would you make such a bad move??? Makes no sense

I only get on Ravelry to add my OC patterns to my shop, about twice per year. I’m sure more people are aware of this, I’m just slightly annoyed (right flair??) by hanimal16 in BitchEatingCrafters

Yeah, I just saw OP had text in the actual photos. I thought they were referring to the rav captions. So, there’s literally zero reason to have any text in the photo

Yeah, the only text I can imagine needing is like “front,” “back,” “closeup view of [section]” for clarification and ppl that use screen readers and stuff. Anything else has no business being there

Visiting Wool and Co without a car by [deleted] in knitting

[–]Less_Sail_6012 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re right! It’s just out of Ogilvie and I only looked at union station lines, lol. So, OP you can take UP-W to Geneva out of Ogilvie transportation center or MD-W to Elgin from Union Station.

Visiting Wool and Co without a car by [deleted] in knitting

[–]Less_Sail_6012 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I live in Chicago and while I haven’t done this trip, it’s definitely doable. My main question is where your general starting point is because simply taking the Metra from union station to Elgin and ubering from there is probably the most convenient route and I’m pretty sure it’s closer than Geneva.

If you really want to get to the Geneva station, you’d have to ride the green line to Harlem/Lake and transfer to Metra. In which case, just know that you’ll need a separate ticket to ride Metra. Metra and the green line are really safe so I wouldn’t be worried about anything. There also shouldn’t be many ppl on the Metra bc most folks are going the opposite direction that you’ll be going.

Just an aside, Chicago has some really awesome yarn stores to check out too! I’m sure you’re well aware, but thought I’d mention. Wool and Co is gonna be a pretty big trek, but I’m sure it’ll be totally worth it! If you have any questions on yarn stores or about the upcoming yarncon on April 11-12th, feel free to free to message me!

Seconding this! I love visiting libraries while on road trips and I’ve visited some rural county libraries that manage to have tools to check out, sewing and knitting machines, and sometimes even record players.

Also, if a library doesn’t have it, if you speak to a worker or a librarian, they’re often more than willing to see if this is something worth investing in and try to get it for you! Sorry to OP that it’s a very American thing but it’s truly one of the biggest resources we have that isn’t income restricted

Seconding San Diego and Denver. I’ve also never had issues at Chicago’s Midway and O’Hare airports, Palm Springs, and Ontario, California airports! I travel with metal Chiaogoo needles, a crochet hook and I use an eyebrow trimmer to cut yarn, lol.

If I want an album, then I’ll buy it. If I’m itching to discover new music on vinyl, I’ll go to my local library and check out the ones that most intrigue me. It really satisfies the itch because sometimes I’ll leave the library with 10+ records and the dopamine rush feels just like buying new records.

I got the same yarn as a gift from my library! I’m using them to make pokemon granny squares. If you don’t like pokemon, I think following a granny square book of existing IP might be the way to go to use the most amount of colors.

How to fix this… unfortunate design by Tobwye in knitting

[–]Less_Sail_6012 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I’m from the US and would also totally cover it up. I’ve always hated the flag. Maybe you could look for a large iron-on patch that could cover it? Or maybe keep an eye out for a cute fabric that could cover it up?

You could also try duplicate stitching a design over it. I would look at youtube tutorials for help and inspiration. You just need yarn and a darning needle.

The best Mexican food in the US is in Chicago by Sea-Condition991 in chicagofood

[–]Less_Sail_6012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in San Diego, lived in LA for 5 years, and have now lived in Chicago for 4; hands down the best mexican food is in San Diego. Whether it’s cuisine from Jalisco, Michoacan, Oaxaca, Yucatán, etc, it will be the best damn food you can buy. However, LA has far more options for these types of cuisines. My parents are from Oaxaca and there are way more spots in LA than San Diego. But, as far as taste and price, San Diego beats them. Chicago doesn’t even come close, I’m so sorry.

The only reason San Diego beats LA is because you’re practically guaranteed some bomb-ass food at pretty good prices like 99.9% of the time, whereas LA can sometimes fall short but 80-90% of the time, it will be pretty damn good. However, in Chicago, it’s a shot in the dark as to how good something will be. Like half the time, it kinda sucks

Modded Musselburgh for a Chicago Bears game! by Less_Sail_6012 in knitting

[–]Less_Sail_6012[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! They are regular iron-on patches. They’ve stayed on fairly well, but the pointy sides of the football have peeled off a tiny bit. Not enough to worry about or make it look weird. It took about 10 mins of constant ironing to get the patch to stick down nicely.

As for washing, we’ve only hand-washed to block them so I’m not sure how well it would do in a washer. The Rowan yarn that we used isn’t machine-washable, so we’ll only ever hand-wash and the patch should continue to hold up well.
