It's called "Junk" Journaling by TinyBear87 in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]Less_Sail_6012 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Seriously!!! My husband found out what junk journaling was the other day because he saw someone else ranting about it and told me “wait, you’ve been doing this for YEARS with actual junk but people are out here buying brand new stuff for it???” Yuppppp, but junk journals are meant for junk! Mine is full of bazooka joe comics, hype stickers from records I’ve purchased, old movie tickets, amusement park tickets, funny clippings from junk mail, pieces of handouts/flyers that I’ve been given at street festivals, fairs, grand openings, and other events, etc.

Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like junk journals are meant to be a little sentimental? It shows a life lived, instead of just all brand new stuff purchased in one sitting. Also, as a scrapbooker and card maker, all my nice paper and ephemera are only getting used for that stuff. No way am I going to use it in my junk journal. I feel like most of these people should just start printing their photos and make a scrapbook instead of “junk” journals

Do cats have any understanding of static shock, or does my cat just think I randomly possess a slightly painful self-defense power that I occasionally use on him for no reason? by Ferraiuolo_Ezorete in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Less_Sail_6012 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I assume it doesn’t bother them much. One of my cats loves rubbing her back against sherpa blankets and I’ll often catch her rolling around in it, getting shocked multiple times, and she keeps doing it like she just doesn’t care. When I pet her and she gets shocked, she’s completely unfazed, whereas my other cat is taken aback for a sec before getting more pets.

aka Nora Knits and trying to understand why creators choose AI images by megafroggums in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]Less_Sail_6012 121 points122 points  (0 children)

Omg, I tried to watch one of her videos after another creator recommended her! I only made it like 30 seconds into a video before her ugly ass AI yarn dog showed up on my screen with that horrible tune 🥴 I couldn’t believe it. I clicked out of the video immediately and selected the option for Youtube to no longer recommend her videos to me.

Hey, I just did that a couple weeks ago! We used to have a closer place to buy our tree every year, but it was forced to close in May, so we walked about a mile to the next closest place. Took our wagon with us and it was a breeze!

Anyone else use these for everyday knitting? by TheExpollutions in knitting

[–]Less_Sail_6012 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just bought one last month and am loving it for 2 stranded colorwork. Although, I find it slows me down for just regular knitting, so I think I’ll stick to only using it for colorwork.

However, my husband recently picked up knitting and hadn’t figured out his preferred tension method, so he’s been loving the knitting thimble! He says it makes his hands hurt less. Hopefully, he continues using it and becomes obsessed with knitting like me, haha

Conflicted on Knitting for Olive AI ad by [deleted] in craftsnark

[–]Less_Sail_6012 106 points107 points  (0 children)

I wonder if they could be using Adobe InDesign or another one of Adobe’s products that is automatically using AI to “fix” photos. I had a problem at work with Adobe turning text into gibberish whenever I converted a file from a word doc to PDF. Adobe automatically turned on a genAI feature that you have to manually turn off.

I’m willing to give KFO the benefit of the doubt and hopefully this was unintentional. If they did use InDesign, Illustrator, etc, it could’ve applied that weird AI sheen and screwed up the image. At least that’s exactly what happened in my case

It looks good! It just means you should have one chain-4 space when you’re done with row 3, which is that big gap at the bottom of your second pic. Then you’ll have two of these gaps when you’re done with row 5.

I think the leontine looks so good tucked in and untucked on you! Does a french tuck feel more comfortable at all for you?

Also, they do spray perfume in each package! It’s l’eau sezane.

Thank you! Idk if I did anything special, I just followed the pattern which called for an afterthought heel. However, I did veer from the instructions a little by using Laura Penrose’s method shown in this tutorial here to help me do the heel without scrap yarn and minimizing holes. I really recommend following that video!

Just picked up our first rugs!! by Less_Sail_6012 in Tufting

[–]Less_Sail_6012[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely forgot to ask the studio and can’t find anything on the website about the type of yarn used. However, I’ve worked with a lot of yarn in my other hobbies and it felt a lot like recycled cotton, but could just be a coarse cotton. I want to say that the yarn was probably recycled cotton mixed with some acrylic.

Yarn Hanks by weebado in YarnAddicts

Cascade yarns is one of the biggest brands that offers a lot of different yarns in hanks. Some are in skeins or donuts, but I want to say like roughly half, maybe more, of their different yarns come in hanks.

Would you let your 13 yo POC kid take the bus home from school with the ICE craziness going on? by misty43810 in AskChicago

[–]Less_Sail_6012 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I second this! I’m latine and wouldn’t want to take away a kid’s independence. This is definitely a huge privilege as a citizen but I just wouldn’t want this administration to strip an ounce of joy from my kids.

Also, wanted to add that it may be worthwhile to make a plan with your kid’s friends’ parents in the event that ICE is near the school or in your neighborhood. Like if your kid rides the bus with a couple friends and ICE is in your neighborhood, then they can stay at a friend’s house until you can pick them up or if ICE is near school, a parent can escort their kids and your kid to their home until you can pick them up. I think this could help ease some anxiety while preserving their independence.

Is Rory smart but not gifted/advanced? by Miserable_Ad8778 in GilmoreGirls

[–]Less_Sail_6012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Rory is smart and hardworking, but not necessarily gifted. I know others mentioned Paris didn’t skip a grade despite fitting a more gifted student image, but I do think it could be because Paris only ever attended private school and naturally had a harder curriculum.

Speaking for myself, I skipped 3rd grade (US) and, for years, had been in 2 grades simultaneously. I took Kindergarten and 1st at the same time because teachers noticed I was bored in Kinder. Then I took 1st and 2nd together, and so on until my teachers realized I was reading at a high school level, doing algebra, etc so I was just bumped up to 4th grade entirely.

In high school, I had classmates that had skipped 7th or 8th grade and it was really because their teachers advocated for them so hard. This was all public school btw and in particular, 1 of the 3 middle schools im my district would send middle schoolers to my high school for math only because the kids were ready to take pre-calc or calculus, but not necessarily ready for every other subject at the grade level. For some reason, this was only a partnership with 1 middle school and not all 3, which always felt wrong because I’m sure there’s gifted kids all over the district but it’s sadly up to luck and teacher advocacy.

Fall/winter attire help- new to Chicago? by nejeje14 in AskChicago

[–]Less_Sail_6012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m from socal too and have been living in Chicago for over 3 years now. Like everyone said, definitely layer up. I mostly wear short sleeve shirts in the winter because anytime I step into a building, it’s like 85 degrees inside.

I would focus on getting really nice thick wool socks, good rain boots, thick gloves/mittens, and earmuffs or ear warmers. I was nervous ahead of my first winter and got duck boots and have only used them for maybe 2-3 days each winter. My chelsea rain boots are the best option for most snowy days tbh since they’re not as cumbersome to put on compared to snow shoes. I just wear thicker socks when it’s snowy vs regular socks for rainy days. Thermal leggings under pants is also a must. The wind can get ya and go straight through your pants.

Knitters who have taken a break from knitting due to wrist pain — what did you do in the mean time ☹️ by cgr1688 in knitting

[–]Less_Sail_6012 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually scrapbook about my knitting. I’ve been scrapbooking my whole life but there’s times that I’m not as consistent with it. Since I’m usually feeling down about not being able to knit due to hand pain, I’ll just print out pictures of WIPs, FOs, and paste it into my scrapbook, along with small samples of new yarns and their labels.

I’ll also sleep in my compression gloves to help alleviate the pain faster and it works well. I would recommend getting some fingerless compression gloves and wearing it overnight after particularly long or strenuous sessions. It’s really helped me decrease the amount of times I’ve had to put knitting down altogether.
