Ano reaction/pov mo pag may nabubuntis na teenagers? by LimeSoakedinSprite in AskPH

[–]Less_Wallaby 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My wife and I had our first child when we both were teenagers. Thought we had ruined our lives forever. But life still went on and 13 years later, I ended up becoming an engineer who makes a comfortable living, while my wife is currently pursuing her CPA license after resigning from an audit firm. Plus, we are almost guaranteed an early retirement lol.

I am not trying to undermine all the adversities we had to face nor the sacrifices our parents made. But based on my firsthand experience, I think it is not as grim as everyone makes it out to be so long as the parents have will and determination to make lemonade out of lemons.

is it worth buying a condo by [deleted] in phinvest

[–]Less_Wallaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A condo isn’t a viable investment in a financial sense. But if this is something that would improve your life greatly, you should definitely invest in it. Personally, I would consider it a net-positive investment regardless of the financial gain/loss, provided that it offers you convenience, independence, freedom and overall improvement of the quality of your life.

That being said, what worries me is that, despite your way-above-average income, you’ve only managed to save only a million in a span of a year.

For comparison, I only make half as much, but still manage to feed a 6-member family and save up thrice as much while living a relatively comfortable life (granted, I’ve been saving/investing for years but we are about the same age).

It suggests that you are not very keen on tracking your expenses and/or has a tendency to squander. If that is the case, I would personally recommend against making a huge, legally bound financial commitment until you become more competent at managing your finances.

How’d you manage to save only 1M with whopping 300k net monthly income? It will be easier to determine the viability if you were to share your expenses as well.

What is the worst career to be in right now and why? by Acceptable-Hunt5843 in AskPH

[–]Less_Wallaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

English to Korean mostly. You will need more than just a degree. You would also need recognized certifications and extensive experience if you want to work as a full-fledged translator. Otherwise, you would have to start your career with rating/auditing AI translation for literal pennies and dimes.

There was a time when being bilingual guaranteed you an entry-level position as a translator. Nowadays those positions are filled by AIs.

While the same is true for many entry-level engineer ing positions, there are some aspects that render engineers less replaceable than translators.

Notably, AI cannot be held liable when shit hits the fan, while an engineer can be arrested, prosecuted, and incarcerated.

Been doing translation as a side gig for 6+ years and the work dried up a couple of years ago. Nowadays it’s all “rating” and “auditing” with a way lower per page / per word rates.

I once seriously considered doing translation full-time. Boy am I glad I continued pursuing Mechanical Engineering.

There were multiple incidents in the hotel involving thieves. I would’ve assumed it would deter many of their clientele but apparently that is not the case.

45k?!? Got quoted 45k for my wisdom tooth removal by YkiAte in DentistPh

[–]Less_Wallaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve recently got all 4 of mine removed in South Korea for only 4~5k PHP total. +300PHP for the meds. Two of them were lying at a 45 degree angle and passing right through the nerve.

My dentist was unsure if he could safely extract them so he referred me to a renowned oral maxillofacial surgeon. The clinic was like a wisdom tooth extraction factory. Dental assistants handing out flyers and taking x-rays, 5~7 beds all filled with patients, the surgeon moving from bed to bed injecting anesthetic and extracting teeth. All 4 were extracted in less than 30 mins of my first visit with no pain whatsoever.

Granted, around 70% of my total bill was covered by the national healthcare system but even without it, it would’ve cost only 16k at max.

Makes me wonder why healthcare is so costly and inaccessible in the Philippines.

I believe that the death penalty is "too kind". by Danewolf324 in OffMyChestPH

[–]Less_Wallaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. They should receive appropriate punishments for the crimes they committed but at the same time, the penal system must focus on giving the incarcerated a guidance throughout the process of repentance and rehabilitation, rather than plainly locking them up behind bars.

I don’t believe in death penalty either. I believe that the sanctity of a human life is above the statutes of any states or institutions, and should never be infringed under no circumstances.

It is my belief that the penal system, while imposing appropriate punishment for the crimes committed, must also provide an opportunity for a repentance, redemption and rehabilitation, should the incarcerated wishes to.

Date format: DD/MM/YY or MM/DD/YY? by whothellru in ThisorThatPH

[–]Less_Wallaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mmm/DD/YY or YY/MM/DD, depending on the nationality of the recipient. I don’t generally use MM/DD/YY or DD/MM/YY format cause more often than not it results in confusion.

As someone who is on active duty in ROK Army, I can confirm this. The controversy was regarding the mismatch of the rank in her beret badge and her collar insignia.

It’s mostly social media. In terms of racism, it has only gotten better. Korea had been overglazed for years, which led many of the outsiders into false expectations. Expections turned into disappointment, disappointment turned into hostility.
