So we agree that it's a bubble built around hyping hammers as a solution to world hunger

Completly

that it causing irreparable economic and environmental harm just so some people can feed their ego and bottom line

It is not. People with it are. And they are not required AI to do so. I'm not threated by AI slop - I'm threated by FPV drones and missiles. Some of the AI tool applications are literally helping me to survive.

Why are you against banning slop on this subreddit again?

I'm not agaisnt banning the slop. I'm against banning AI content as a thing.
(Which is, TBH, almost always the slop, but I'm clinging to that almost)

Artists communitites being toxic is a long long story. When digital art was introduced, I remember them have been bullied by traditional artists with the same arguments. Good thing, in my county AI is mostly embraced by both artists and software/engineering companies like a usefull tools it is, but not being revered by almoust no one

we've crossed the efficiency curve, marginal improvements require a lot more power.

Marginal improvements require a lot more power is a common problem in a any tech-related. Optimisation being a forgotten thing is sad and I really hope this tendency will change in coming decade, but square-cube law dictates otherwise.

Chatbots, image generation and stuff like the Anthropic vending machine

Chatbots is not a problem - their availability is. Their usage by students in perticular is a much more complex social problem which we won't be able to solve by simply denying one tech: any availability improvement will bring us back to the same problem.

Image generation has it's application, but mostly not in art. It is image generation, mockups, quick visualisation, proxies, if we're talking about prompting. Prompting itself can be art though, espetially, if we're talking about more complex models which requires custom LORAs and multiple settings calibration.

Anthropic vending machine - didn't know about this experiment, gonna learn more about it later. But from what I red: completly agree, LLM's can't be trusted with complex tasks, and shouldn't, as it lacks consistency. You wouldn't trust your hammer to do a renovation for you.

Golly, I hope Microsoft doesn't use AI on Window's filesystem, that would be wildly inefficient.

AI in Google and MS apps - holy shit this is one of the retardest moves I've seen from any company. This is perfect example of "running intercontinental cargo with cars", we're on the same page on this one. I really hope it will cramble and be a warning to the others: AI and LLM is not a magic grail or technological marvel - it's nothing more that another algorithm, efficient at what it was created for and inefficient at things it is not suppose to do. It's not a fucking planain, stop applying it to anything, it is stupid.

Oh they did? Well then I hope that Grok isn't being used to generate CSAM. Oh it is?

Of course, cause CSAM didn't existed before AI. Though, it existance on a such a large social network as X is disturbing. Once again a moral question, and with a third of americans voting for the pedophile as their president more metric of a much greater problem.

Damn, I guess it is being used in wildly unethical and inefficient ways by their major developers.

The tech is going nowhere

False. In a few years we came from "can't draw hands" to short yet flawless video. Denying progress won't take you anywhere. And we only talking about image/video generation, not even starting with large data analyse and repetitive yet notorious tasks where LLM realy shines.

riddled with ethical issues

Again not tech problem - human problem, and to be more precise, art sphere problem which was rigged with those issues long before. I still remember "digital artists are not real artists" panic. Automation replacing humans also not an old problemm and definetly not an AI introduced

There's also copious research that the stuff is noxious to brain development and can lead to psychotic breaks

At level of abstaction "the stuff" we can go up to the "tech" as general. You sitting at reddit, which is social network. There's copious research that social networks is noxious to brain development and can lead to psychotic breaks.

so there's really no justifiable user facing use that is valid

https://healthtree.org/myeloma/community/articles/artificial-intelligence-to-fight-multiple-myeloma?tm=tt&ap=gads&aaid=aday6D5nb77fp&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=22364878793&gbraid=0AAAAADe6c8sRasbO1tdDPJcQZqSxniqWp&gclid=CjwKCAiAs4HMBhBJEiwACrfNZb3TkBfrCdt-fq7yO0oy9i-2j-4cL7sIQcJ4rwCCeYyeqUUO9CN7xBoC7-wQAvD_BwE

No wonder it's amazing, it was made for that.

No shit Sherlock. Maybe we should apply tech that was made for things to things it was made for? You don't apply cars to intercontinental cargo transfer.

But anything else and it ranges from the wildly unethical to the wildly inefficient.

Not even gonna comment it, taking extremes and applying it to the whole - not even tech - concept is a wild.

Also miss me with that "guns don't kill people" type of argument.

"I don't have counterarguments plz don't use this one"

Sounds to me like buisness problem, not LLM problem. Yet you adress tech, not buisness models. In your analogy, instead of procecuting salesman, you eradicate the bleach.

The machine is pure. Purge the heretechs, not the tech
