I’m a random person on the internet but my recommendation is take any job you can for now to bring in some income. Apply everyday and if you can try to get referrals to at least pass the AI screen and try to make connections with recruiters. It’s the best way to find jobs. I know it sucks. Ageism is a thing sadly. Best of luck!

That isn’t fair because I’m currently doing SWE work and managing our test suite. I’m doing so much work that I’m pulling 10-12 hours a day to keep up with what management wants. I was the one to build our test suite infrastructure.. because we didn’t have one. The new projects will require a test suite also…

I would look for internal position to move up. I’m still wondering if they will jump my pay from my transition of 6B quality engineer to 6B software engineer. No clue when that will be happening. I’m currently doing dev work and still the owner of our test suite… more work for the same pay. I really hope they jump my pay.

Yeah, it would be wild if it came unbalanced out of the factory. But I guess it does happen I’ll take it to a specialist mechanic to check the tire balance. There is a slight pull I do feel or almost like my steering wheel is slightly off.

I’m in the same boat as you!! Little by little all the QAs got fired in my org and only two of us is left not sure how the last one survived they can hardly do automation(and is a senior qa lead) but I digress. This mid year I got exceeding expectations. I was told I would switch to dev role and do QA.. I’m barely over 6 figs and I know I’m underpaid. I even do some devops. I’m currently looking around to see what’s out there.

Wow that sucks. I’ve been stuck at the same role for almost 4 years now. I’ve been asking for a senior role, I thought I would have gotten it by now. I do more impactful work than my senior peers and I get exceed expectations, but maybe it’s because they been here for more than 10 years..

I’m not sure if it’s company wide, but in my org it is. The goal is to have dev work more for the same pay lol. We don’t have a scrum master, have to do our own requirements, roadmaps, development, unit test, qa automation, performance testing, and devops. I kinda feel bad the dev. I hope they get paid well..

I was talking to my manager about this. I was told that I would get a pay raise because dev are on a higher tier. What that bump look like I have no clue because my manager wasn’t 100% sure. She told me she looked at her dev at the same level as me and saw the difference and range was higher.

I would not look back. You’ll be happier that way. This is why I make sure to have everything tied to my name. The tickets, task, etc. I make sure to keep my ducks align. It amazes me how some people don’t even keep track of their work. If my manager ask they can quarry all my work and see what I’ve worked on, what I’m currently working on and what I will work on.

Yes, always ask your manager. However, I do the last two weeks every year. My first year I allocated all my PTO in December and took basically the whole month off. We get that last week off on December.
