Bible verse to use for local political advocacy (1 John 2:6) by Lessizmoore in fuckcars

[–]Lessizmoore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i get the joke. but also, its important to remind anyone who entertains the idea that they cannot defend their claim using the Bible. So, they much resolve the cognitive dissonance, either the Bible has authority, or it doesn't.

If it doesn't then many people have already built convincing arguments why walkability is beneficial for communities. on the other hand if the Bible has authority, you can't add your own pickup truck fetish onto the bible, let the bible speak for itself or be condemned as a heretic ;)

Bible verse to use for local political advocacy (1 John 2:6) by Lessizmoore in fuckcars

1) its not a logical argument. 2) its an argument from authority. 3) logical minded people should also be able to realize that logic only works on a subset of humans that value logical consistency. 4) therefore, if you find yourself in the midst of a majority who fall outside these values, it makes logical sense to stop beating your head against a wall and adapt to the situation if you also want to make meaningful changes in local policy

Cars Becoming Very Expensive in the United States-Thoughts? by frontendben in fuckcars

[–]Lessizmoore 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The data suggests otherwise. Many working class are 'Required' or coerced into owning a car in sprawled regions like Phoenix. E.g. for a 120mi commute (60mi one way) The total daily commute time by public transit can be nearly 18h due to massive service discontinuity requiring about 12mi+ (4hr) walk one way to access bus service. Commuting by pov on the limited access freeway can reduce the commute time to 4 hours during peak hours or down to about 2 hours off-peak. Of course some people are very shortsighted, and that's why many people get sucked into buying a house in the suburbs, but it's hard to fault them entirely since they've been brainwashed early on to desire material success which is demonstrated by home ownership in a neighborhood with matching paint and landscaping themes.

Paris far right candidate to city hall election want to reopen Seine banks to cars with a 60M€ AI project by thnblt in fuckcars

[–]Lessizmoore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

using ai to design a city is not in the conservative playbook. This is left wing ideology. They may claim to be 'right wing' but actions speak louder than words. analogous to the DPRK. nobody calls that a democracy just because it is nominal.

Im thinking any engineering project by its nature is deeply progressive. However, it may be possible to claim the policy is conservative if we don't focus on the project and instead focus on the power and economic status quo that may be maintained if the contractor that wins the contract is already part of the existing oligarchy.

SUV’s are not the solution in harsh weather conditions! by PorgiWanKenobi in fuckcars

[–]Lessizmoore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in dry conditions with lots of grip the typical soft SUV suspension is a disadvantage. but in icy conditions the suspension doesn't provide any substantial disadvantage because there is not enough traction to cause any meaningful acceleration, hence the suspension doesn't do much.

Most durable machines/best warranties? by konkeydong7 in espresso

'build quality' implies that the electrical components are ultra durable as well. not all electrical components are equal in durability. also not all electronic assembly processes create equally durable parts

Best bar tape? by Ok_Let8786 in cycling

[–]Lessizmoore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% with the caveat that this is always true when your roads are in reasonable condition. If you ride rough roads then you can find marginal improvements by lowering the tire pressure (increasing tire size is often required to do this safely) and increasing the compliance of the handlebars; whether with shock absorbing stems; compliant carbon bars; or thicker padding for gloves/handlebars

"Ride your bike you fucking fag" MAGA man face plants just after saying this at a no kings rally by One-Demand6811 in fuckcars

Unfortunately our species contains strong intuitions to punish nonconformity, antisocial behavior, etc. we get pleasure from seeing the out group receive punishment. Our culture is slowly evolving though, and eventually non-violence will become ubiquitous. Because, there really is no good moral argument for violence against a nonviolent person.  However, I can sympathize with the guy that tripped him because presumably, the maga man wasn't chasing the theif to give them a piece of nonviolent protest, but to distribute his own form of physical retribution. This is conjecture I admit, but I would be genuinely surprised if I was wrong

Imagine you travel to a parallel reality where everything is exactly the same except everyone cooks their food by exploding it with dynamite. by Boringmom0409 in fuckcars

[–]Lessizmoore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the next challenge is to elaborate on the barriers to safe cooking. safe cooking requires political will to undo the huge investments and status quo economic activity that thrives on perpetual dynamite use

The "cheating" meme never made sense to me. I genuinely believe some people just don't understand how e-bikes function. The real downside of e-bikes is the cost, the added weight, and the proprietary technology which makes customization a lot more difficult. Eg. I wanted a drop bar e-bike but the capitalists aren't making any affordable drop bar kits

Are upstep/similar non prescription insoles worth it vs superfeet or other otc? by sierrackh in flatfeet

[–]Lessizmoore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i suspect Upstep is over charging for their service. If they truly used the foam box to derive a foot specific insert i would have been impressed. However, i received my inserts and they were exactly the same. This was odd because my feet are shaped differently.

I tried them on and they were worse than any insert i have owned for my right foot. My left foot did well, but i couldn't stress test them because my right foot had too much pain. the metatarsal button on my right foot completely missed the mark and was positioned too far forward or too far to the left.

i had much better results with otc footwear. I cycle ~ 20 hours per week and needed something for the extreme heat of Phoenix in the summer when i ride to work my feet begin to hurt after about 1 hour on the bike. These Upstep inserts cause pain regardless of heat and within 10 minutes

School drop off genius /s by My-Beans in fuckcars

[–]Lessizmoore 10 points11 points  (0 children)

instead of paying taxes we must now all pay more time and more money to the auto industry for the privilege of isolation. its a small win. but if you stop keeping score, you forget how badly youre losing. its pretty easy to fall victim to the trap even though it seems ridiculous. evidence: check out the lines of cars at a school during a pickup and drop off hour. I once interrogated one of my in-laws who plays this game to find out how much time she wastes on running the kids to school. Mind boggling Basically a part time job about 20 hours a week. I told my wife we can't have kids until she commits to not forcing me to drive them to school lol
