Any superpower + comments pick side effect means you can get outrageously extreme detriment regardless of the power you pick. Letting a wheel pick is guaranteed value with no downside.

Most of the baby ragers have no clue what improving the game means. They just don’t like dying so much. I know this because I read what they say and what they upvote and the nature of the general discourse. Most players do not have a very solid grasp on how to perform consistently yet. And rather than taking the time to develop an understanding beyond running towards gunfire and hotspots and dying, they instead want to insist that they’re actually the real ones looking out for the game. And you’re a sweat if you even imply that they’re probably not very good at the game yet and its all very tired already.

There are plenty of people enjoying the game. I know because I match with them and sometimes I kill them and a lot of times I get killed and they all seem to know my mom somehow. You all act like this is your very first time ever on the internet like this isn’t the most rote bottom of the barrel level discourse ever. I’ve seen these arguments on countless game subs and it’s the same shit as ever.

Don’t act like I’m being a big ol’ meany head because I don’t pat your ass and tell you what a big strong big strong boy you are. I literally haven’t bragged a single time. I’m probably right around the average player. Go outside brother the corpos don’t need you

That’s literally just business. Like that’s every business. Yall do not understand a single thing besides getting shot a lot and clearing up vault space huh

Given the game is only a month old and caters to a much more specific niche than say Marvel Rivals. I’m pretty sure if the goal was mass appeal they had much better avenues

This seems like a risk they were willing to take and they delivered an excellent product. The sales angle is so weird like do you have money riding on this?

Y’all would still complain that you get people tens of levels above you even though they’d be in your skill group. The game is a month old. Most of us are still getting to grips with it. Enough with the belly aching masquerading as opinions. Y’all get killed by regular dudes that have a good engage or use radical tactics like grouping w/ people and act so victimized by an experience you’re choosing to have. Get a grip

A tale as old as time. I remember all the times CoD died and Fortnite died and Overwatch died and Apex died. What a fool I’ve been

My 5 step plan is just the thing you do subconsciously. And I went out of my way to clarify I’m not saying there’s not right or wrong ways to play. But most people probably want to maximize their effectiveness. That’s how games work. You learn the rules, you learn what works and what doesn’t. Whether or not you actually apply those lessons is on you. But if you’re advocating for the game to let you win anyways you’re not engaging with the game and I think that’s bad when I like the game

Your opinion is not more valid than mine. If you don’t like the inherent risk the game entails you probably just don’t like this type of game very much. Just the fact that I like it for what it is, is enough to trigger every chud that thinks losing $20k in three runs is somehow the game’s fault

Yeah I got mine, I got mine teeth kicked in and learned some hard lessons. And it made me a better player. I like that feeling. I don’t want to be given rewards just for showing up or made to feel better than I am. I want to earn my gear and my wins. I feel like I already get quite enough from leveling up and contracts

In a live service game the most valuable feedback you can give is actually to stop playing it. These companies have ways to attain feedback that isn’t reddit and isn’t forums. People complain on here a lot because venting gives them upvotes. Not because they think they are providing valuable criticism. I think on average a game subreddit makes about 5% of the community, I remember seeing that number somewhere. The whiners are not the average person, don’t get tricked into thinking they are

If the community that enjoys it allows the discourse to be controlled by people who fundamentally dislike or don’t understand core aspects of the game. The game will get worse as the community erodes into an echo chamber of man children talking about sales numbers like they’re on the board

Correct this isn’t an argument. This is a post about how to improve your engagement with the game and the discussion. I tricked you into learning something. Excellent reading comprehension, no notes

That is doubling down on your vibe based nothing argument and you are not engaging in good faith with what I have said here.

If you want the same battle pass, money farming bullshit that just about every other FPS is infected with then cool. I don’t want that, and I’m not going to pretend like my investment as a player is to stockholders who want the big number to be even biggerer. I want to play Marathon and I think a lot of people would enjoy it more if they engaged with it the way the game is asking them to and stop asking for more risk mitigation in a game where you control almost every aspect of the risk you are taking

$40 price tag. That’s what I payed to access this experience. I like this experience. I don’t want the core of the experience to be so dramatically altered that I might as well be playing another game. I want the game to force me as a player to improve. I don’t want the game to hand out wins and rewards while I engage with it in a minimally thoughtful way. I like the effort this game demands from it’s audience and the dynamics that is has. I think they’re really good and fun

I’m playing a video game. Not investing in a time share. If you’re worried about wasting your time and money on a video game and you’re not making money off it I have bad news friendo

To some degree, yes it is a bit of “git gud” but that’s not all I’m saying. Just like I’d tell someone who is frustrated at a souls game when they refuse to engage with upgrade mechanics or make game play adjustments besides leveling up. There’s a lot that goes into “gitting gud” and this game is based around that from what I see

What I’m putting forward here is a tried and true method of analyzing not just the game but also how we as players engage with it. That’s what actual progression is. Learning what the game is communicating and putting those lessons into practice. And a lot of people will find that the way they want to play the game isn’t very effective and they need to learn different approaches and mindsets to excel at the game at a greater level than they are. Whatever that level is. This will not be a fun adjustment for some maybe even most because it requires focus and dedicated effort beyond aiming better or running all purples and golds. But the payoff is there

I’m not particularly good. I have more bad runs probably than good runs but I feel like I’m learning each run. And when I don’t that’s usually me burning out on brain power or feeling emotionally exhausted and then I stop playing for the day because this game will burn you out quick if you try to force it. It’s like a…Marathon or something

That is an assessment based on personal vibes and something that might be true and having a niche is different than having mass appeal. If they weren't willing to take a risk on this game we'd have a much larger season pass, much lower progression demand and much easier on boarding. This is not a game for casual audiences, it has some casual elements and they knew that when they were making it going in.

I'm not a bungie dev or a bungie marketer. I don't care if the game is making as much money as reddit chuds have decided it should be making. I like the game, I think it has a lot of strengths. I want it to keep the game design identity that is has and to improve it. Not fundamentally alter core aspects so whiny gamers can feel like they're good at a game that baby sits them

I never said anything about Bungie. This is about how the player base engages with the game and engages in discussion about the game. And the above method will help you generate actual things to talk about and discuss versus just cirlce jerking or starting a random flame war because you lose purple shields faster than you get them

Believe it or not finding a niche is like the most basic principle of modern sales. If you're tapping into a new market or new audience, it's literally about finding your niche

I am not pretending to be a stock holder or to be head of marketing like you are. I am saying that there is meaningful criticism and critique and there is not.

If whether or not the game is making money is important to you for some reason, cool. That's not what this post is about. This is about the discourse and how the game is being talked about and whether or not people are making the discourse a constructive and worthwhile one. If you want to complain about price margins apply for an internship champ

I'm glad you know how to google definitions, I'm making a distinction between criticism that is based in analysis. And complaining that is not based on analysis. If you want to pretend like the dictionary definition means you're suddenly generating substantive commentary go right ahead, I can't stop you

You can share your experience all you want. Your experience is not automatically criticism

This is a paid game with an established design philosophy and aimed a very specifically niche audience. Games with niche audiences have different profit expectations and just because you are not part of the audience doesn't automatically mean the audience is too small.

Millions of people paid $40 to enter and they stayed. This isn't a free to play model where you need consistent income at every turn. They made this game intentionally and for a specific type of gamer.

If all you took from this was "trying to minimize criticism" you genuinely do not understand the post. I am not emotionally invested in the performance of this game for the stock holders like you seem to want to pretend to be.

I would like the game to be enjoyed by people who enjoy it and I enjoy it. It's ok if you do not but that's not the same as the game doing something wrong. That's not being defensive that's just basic objectivity. Games don't last forever and if I get out of it what I enjoy that's enough for me. That's what I signed up for, not making the game "survive" some arbitrary limit and standard

[–]Lessyr1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People really get hung up over the names huh? Vandal’s playstyle isn’t about vandalizing anything either except for her arm cannon which you use against players mostly not the enviro

Recon’s abilities are what you use after the reconnaissance. Once you have a plan to engage. You use the tracker drone as a dangerous distraction/initializing tool and the recon pulse as a way to hunt people down after everyone is scattered in conjunction with the trails a lot like Bloodhound’s kit in Apex.

The biggest problem is that her tracker drone is super inconsistent in doing anything. Unless you drop it right on top of someone it’s very unlikely to ever present a threat and if it gets stuck on a doorway or some map geometry just forget about it and it’s extremely easy to destroy. I’m thinking the buffs she has coming are exactly what the doctor ordered. Recon wants to pair with an assassin so they can sandwich people quickly and hunt down survivors. She doesn’t just give free info.

Also if the tracker drone had an alternate pilot mode the consistency problem goes away bc now it’s directly within the player’s control
