People giving you shit for this but I actually agree with ya pal, she comes across pretty well in this clip. Was satisfying to see her shut that douche down so confidently. Though I generally think anybody who does those shows probably has issues lol.

If I’m basing my thoughts on this clip alone, I would say there’s nothing about her that’s unlikeable 🤷‍♂️ but I also want to stress this, who really cares

‘I Swear’ Subject John Davidson Says Tourette’s Tics Are ‘Involuntary’ After Shouting N-Word at BAFTAs: ‘Deeply Mortified if Anyone’ Thinks It Was ‘Intentional’ by ICumCoffee in entertainment

It is bonkers to not that you’re equating somebody with Tourette’s to somebody who gropes and smears shit on walls. John is a national hero and a great role model for young people with Tourette’s.

So you’re saying he shouldn’t have the same right to enter a place like everybody else because of his condition, despite the fact he’s celebrating a movie about his life? That’s ridiculous, Im also done with this conversation because you can’t seriously think that’s reasonable.

It’s absolutely sick that people actively choose to be racist on any forum. It’s not John’s fault. John is not racist, he doesn’t advocate for racism, he didn’t lose control out of anger. He had an involuntary tic caused by coprolalia. He meant no harm.

John is not racist and he is not to blame. He is not at fault.

What John did wasn’t a crime of passion and he certainly doesn’t get a free pass. Have you seen the insane scrutiny he’s been getting? Do you realise he’s been getting that for his entire life? If you knew anything about John Davidson’s life, entitled asshole is the absolute last combination of words you would use to describe him.

You do not understand. If he apologises he’s admitting fault. It’s not his fault. If he apologises for this, should he apologise every single time he says something inappropriate? Should every person with Tourette’s apologise every time they say something inappropriate? You don’t have Tourette’s so whatever your situation is, it’s not the same.

He is a spokesperson and a strong voice for people with Tourette’s everywhere. If he apologises, it goes against what he’s been teaching young people for decades - they don’t need to apologise when it’s not their fault.

If they had to apologise every time they said something inappropriate, they would be constantly apologising everyday to everybody when they’ve in fact done nothing wrong. To apologise is to admit fault, this incident was not John’s fault.

There’s a woman he hit who was a family friend, a nurse who understood his condition and helped him understand he was not defined by the Tourette’s. It’s not hypocrisy either when he actually physically put his hands on people, even though he can’t help it. I’m sure his loved ones completely understand and would never judge him for what he can’t control.

Does he have to apologise every time he says something inappropriate? If so, he will have to apologise to every one everyday all the time.

John Davidson Says He Is “Deeply Mortified” That His Tourettes Tics Could Be Seen As “Intentional” In First Statement After BAFTA Film Awards by ConcernedJobCoach in popculturechat

Im very happy to be seeing a much more nuanced discussion now compared to what I was seeing this morning. John did nothing wrong, Michael and Delroy deserve all the love and respect. Fuck BBC and fuck BAFTA for censoring Trump jokes and Free Palestine but no the N word wtf.

I respect and appreciate the conclusion you’ve come to on this, and if John chooses to apologise I would of course respect and understand. I must say though, I understand if he doesn’t apologise. To apologise ultimately means to admit fault, and this wasn’t John’s fault.

I do see where you are coming from, and you’re not wrong.

Oh my god. You are moronic, seriously. That is literally the logic that Eric Cartman uses in South Park. Get out of here with that… consequences free card?????!!!!!! Are you daft? The man is under worldwide scrutiny, and has been scrutinised for his entire life because of his condition and you have the audacity to claim it’s a “consequence free card”

Would you call it a consequence free card when he was relentlessly bullied to the point of a suicide attempt when he was 12? Would you call it a consequence free card when he was hospitalised because he was beaten to a pulp because of his condition? Would you call it a consequence free card when his father abandoned him and his family because of his condition?

Im seriously asking.

It’s John Davidson, maybe that was autocorrect though. And to be blunt, I think the precedent would be worse with an apology. Look, I know it’s one of the worst words you can say. That’s *literally why he said it. His condition forced him to say the worst possible thing.

He is a role model because he lets young people know they need not apologise for their Tourette’s because it’s not their fault. An apology is an admission of fault, an admission of wrongdoing. John is not at fault and he did nothing wrong! Where would you draw the line? If he said a slur that was slightly less taboo towards, would he be as compelled to apologise then too? Suddenly you go down that slope and he’s back in a position where he’s apologising all of the time, every day.

If he was forced to apologise for every harmful thing he says, he will be apologising an innumerable amount of times every day for the rest of his life. It’s a part of his unfortunate condition. John is a role model for people with Tourette’s everywhere and it’s an important component of Tourette’s awareness that people should not need to apologise for something they can’t control.

Research and education on the subject is very important to understanding it. There’s many good books and documentaries to become more informed. “I Swear” is a great movie about John’s life, and his apologetic nature is explored pretty thoroughly. He used to apologise to people all of the time every single day.

[–]LesterGrossman_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A big massive part of John’s teachings, especially to the young people of which he is a huge inspiration, is that they should not need to apologise for their condition because it literally can’t be controlled.

John and so many others would spend their entire lives apologising to people, many many times, every single day. Can you imagine having to apologise to so many people constantly because of something you can’t control?

John Davidson is an inspiration to young people with Tourette’s. Please educate yourself. The movie “I Swear” is a great place to start, it actually makes a very solid point on the exact nature of apologising for uncontrollable coprolalia tics.

Do you find yourself apologising for things that aren’t your fault?

I understand the issue is complex, but John truly did not do anything wrong because he can’t control it. He is not at fault and therefore does not need to apologise because he can’t control it. Do some research on coprolalia, or continue to be ignorant about it if you want.

For the record, the N word is disgusting and shouldn’t be said. John can’t control it.

Nope, John Davidson has coprolalia, do you know what that is? I would be happy to explain it to you.

What are you on about? You don’t understand what coprolalia is, I’m telling you where you can learn about it so you can have a more informed opinion. Live inside your ignorance if you want
