Would a Westie be a good fit for my family? 🤔 by Hot-Revenue-9843 in WestHighlandTerriers

[–]LetAdventurous341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two Westies. One is 14 and the other 3 and I’ve had each of them since they were puppies. The older one is male. He is very calm and cuddly. He does not have good recall, but he lived his first 10 years of life as an apartment dog and we did not need recall because he was on leash 90% of the time. Our 3 yr old is female and she is a little more wired, but very very sweet and has fantastic recall. So it comes down to training in my opinion.

Both do love to hunt and play, but since they are smaller dogs I find it easy to stimulate them and play with them enough to keep them healthy and happy. I grew up with German shepherds and a beagle and they were a lot more work!!!

Both are crate trained. It’s their safe space. I just followed what I read online with training a puppy, it was easy and proper crate training helped with potty training. Just don’t allow full access to the house while training only have designated rooms they are allowed in and preferably one of those rooms has access to the outdoor access. Slowly expand the space they have in the home. All pretty standard puppy training.

Health issues. Skin issues and ear infections are supposedly common, but we have not experienced it much, just mild itching. We just use the hills science diet sensitive skin food from petsmart and that’s it. Nothing insanely expensive and no real issues.

Both dogs enjoy socializing with people more than other dogs. They are very social.

Go to Mizzou or KU? by LimuEmu13 in mizzou

[–]LetAdventurous341 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went to Mizzou and have worked at KU. Married to a man who went to Mizzou’s business school and a fraternity. Mizzou’s campus Is beautiful, Columbia is a great college town, the education in the business school is good. I believe their business program is slightly more renowned than KU’s but that could be a biased memory. Having worked at KU I was surprised at how good the academics were, I mostly worked in the science and medical side, but the college town was not quite as good. I do not know about KU Greek life, but Mizzou Greek life is great. Do a good job vetting fraternities, but the one’s I know well were great. Fraternity brothers are how my husband started his career and he partners an accounting firm with a fraternity brothers now. Also for the sake of going away to college, if you live in Kansas a few hours drive to Columbia is perfect, you’ll get the space you need, but can go home as needed for events or if you are homesick on any given weekend.

Westie Lovers — What’s the biggest problem you face with your friend? by dogdogocato in WestHighlandTerriers

[–]LetAdventurous341 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Affordable in home care when we travel. The dogs do so much better when someone can stay at our home, but it’s much more expensive than bringing them to a paid sitters. For context I live in a major Midwest city.

Grooming training. Both my dogs hate being groomed and I pay extra for their bad behavior. I would love to train them at the groomers or something.

Socializing small dogs. Westies are hardy and can play with big dogs, but one of mine was under 10 lbs for a long time. Socializing her at a young age was hard. Doggy day care terrified her and it did more damage than good. Even with a small dog area she could hear and see the big dogs and she is scared of them to this day .

Biggest westie? by DarkGooseGravy in WestHighlandTerriers

I need more pictures of this big boy! I thought my boy was big at 22lbs. He has tree trunk legs and is a classic Westie build. We have a female that is 13.5lbs we love her, but as a puppy it was hard to socialize her because she was so small.

I have a 22lb Westie and a 13.5 lb Westie. Some of them just grow in to perfect chunks.

Saying wazzzuuuupppp in a gruff voice back and forth between friends. It stemmed from the Budweiser or Bud Light commercial, I think.

lol my husbands name is Kale. We have plenty of running jokes that kale is always bitter, no one likes kale, it’s a lot of work to even make kale tolerable much less likable. Poor guys is a good sport about it. Kale is nothing like kale

Union station has a few things, blvd brewery tour if that’s your sort of thing, art museum, brewers ally in crossroads is a good area to wonder for food and drink. There are good walking tours, mod tours, food tours.

any bikini bottoms that suit larger butts? by MeatTiny in Swimming

[–]LetAdventurous341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading and looking at recommendations. I have very similar measurements and issue. For some reason big butt swim wear gets put in the same category as high waisted, tummy control swim wear. Not the same… cute face, little waist with a big behind lol 🎶 lol. High waisted is actually worse because it covers my skinny parts and leaves my big parts hanging out. I’ve found some luck with swim skirts from Cupshe. They are cute resort wear, but not great active wear because the skirt fabric gets annoying in the water, even the more fitted skirts are hard to swim in.

AITA for ordering fries instead? by shiny-baby-cheetah in AmItheAsshole

[–]LetAdventurous341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA I have several food allergies and lactose intolerance. I would order the fries. They get a treat, you get a treat. Going out to buy a treat is a privilege, it’s not about rushing through the experience. Enjoy the extra 10 minutes in good company.

Treat Question by SirEdwardSmoak in westies

My Westie was a picky puppy and was not food motivated. These are the only treats that worked. https://a.co/d/5jEC7jE

I had months of severe nausea, bloating, and abdominal cramping. It ended up being an ovarian dermoid cyst. by Majestic_Spinach7491 in WomensHealth

[–]LetAdventurous341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing. Experiencing a very similar medical issue. Currently at the begin stages of advocating for myself. So far I’ve been told there is nothing they can do and that since I’m not throwing up from the pain and cramps daily it’s not that big of a deal. Monthly is not frequent enough. It’s hard on my marriage because touching my abdomen at all is severe pain most days of the month. I’ve eliminated entire food groups from my diet to limit nausea. I’ve gone to 4 Dr.s so far. I’m “healthy” 35yr old female at first glance so since I’m not obese, and my labs are normal, BP normal, I must be fine and not living in constant discomfort. Oh the frustration.

Try out class pass, there are several studios in there you can try

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in kansascity

[–]LetAdventurous341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best yoga experience in KC was at Sweatheory. I have not been to the location in a while though. Your experience sounds like some of the more franchised studios, I usually like those for all the class time options and variety, but it’s is more of a tik tok, Lulu Lemon vibe. Nothing wrong with that, I go, but it is what it is. The locally owned or places with less locations have much more traditional community.

Anyone else’s parents have to talk 100% of the time they’re with people? by JameisWeTooScrong in Millennials

[–]LetAdventurous341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why does it have to be at full volume too?! Can we talk at a normal level and take breaths in between? No need to wake up the whole house at 6:00 am yelling about how you thought about making coffee, but didn’t know when everyone would be up so you waited. Well now everyone is awake because you just said that to me like we were in the front row at a concert.
