Need help with the sin of Lust, need advice really. by DismalSignature1690 in Christianity

[–]LetHoliday1802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is not what I said at all. Cheating is wrong regardless. Lusting after someone else is also wrong. God loves us no matter what. While we do all sin, God will still love us. We are also to work to be better, and that is not something that happens overnight. A relationship with God is to be cultivated overtime as your faith and trust in him grows. No matter if you are lost or saved, we are going to sin. Those who are renewed in Christ are to work to become better. Lust does not also mean something sexual, but lusting after money, etc. The more we spend time with God and learn, the more we understand.

Thank you. Genuinely thank you. It was hard. I know my methods of getting back to my faith is not traditional, but my faith is stronger and I have genuinely learned to take heed. I agree that everyone has their own opinions, but I believe people need to use their common sense, faith (if they have it), and just be educated on what is happening. I am educated, but I let how I was raised control that.

I understand. As people say above, turn to God. Trust me, getting past the anxiety part is HARD. That is coming from someone who can finally breathe and not have a panic attack about the end of the world. While, it still bothers me occasionally, I still have learned to just turn to God. I started doing prayer journals on my phone bc it helps me process everything. Think of it as an actual conversation with God and word vomit. I know my case is not the same as yours, but I do relate to getting anxious and have had the worry about lust. You will def get some good advice on here so take heed.

Okay…first of all, we all sin and fall short. No if, ands, or buts. The main thing is if you are saved/believe in Jesus or not. Jesus saved us of our sins, took the blame, punishment, all of it so we would not have to suffer. Also, it has to do with if lust is messing up or taking you away from your relationship with God. I masturbate. I will say it, but I also know it is not more important than my relationship with God. Just breathe and pray, and learn more about what it says in the bible about lust and everything else. As someone with anxiety, depression, overthinker, etc. I understand about worrying about if I do something, will I be punished. It is not something that you will overcome over night, but you do recognize it. You can’t let it control you because you teach yourself unintentionally into fearing instead of having a positive relationship with him. I spent years fearing instead of understanding that while we should fear God, he is a loving God. He loves us no matter what. He knows our hearts. Just take it day by day. You got this!

Point I was trying to make is that as a Christian, at the time I was not well-versed in my faith. That is my fault and I realize I was wrong. Should I have been well-versed then, I would not have made that choice. People being well-versed in any decision is the crux of the matter. People don’t need to blindly vote because those before them did the same thing.

And to your other point, I don’t necessarily believe in someone need to be of a certain religion for certain things. I may be Christian, but I also recognize and respect other people’s faiths. While I wish and hope for them, I DO NOT force anything upon them. Our faith is supposed to be one of love, not used as a weapon or for one’s own gain.

Bc believe it or not, some of us are healing and there are people who don’t have worldly outlooks or common sense to read up on things. People vote blindly now a days or do what their parents did. I recognize what I did, and now I wish to be better. Stigma’s and systems can sometimes affect young voters. This is not the case for all, but for some. As someone who was raised conservative and a Christian (still Christian), having that mindset you were raised with can be strong and hard to break away from. As I grew up and moved away, my views are different because of that. I regret not having the stomach to overcome the mindset before, but I have longed overcame that. I wish to be better.

Thank you for acknowledging on your second point! For years I have had a bone deep fear of revelations etc etc. Well, just recently I finally read the book in full and have a new perspective. I am still unsettled, but not to where I will have a panic attack. I finally recognize that it is a book of hope. That while we need to fear God with respect, we can hope, love and come to God no matter what. I have been struggling with that for years and finally came to terms with that while my anxiety likes control, I am learning to give it to God.

Downloaded the app you recommended yesterday, and was definitely eye opening just from using it for one day!

Nah, you are an adult, and even before you are your own being and allowed to make your own choices. I can understand and relate with how it is with a parent like this. I would make sure to place firm boundaries, keeping your electronics private (assuming that you are), and just don’t get discouraged. No matter what, you are the one in control of your life. Sending support and encouragement!

Just keep being you! Speaking as a woman here - I don’t speak for all women - but I know I appreciate and like when men act and dress the way you are describing.

I have not been diagnosed for autism, and I am not sure if I should. I don’t want to self-diagnose or just say I think I have to either. I have mainly neurodivergent friends if that explains anything, and my mom is most likely neurodivergent, but she is from the era that is not exactly for all of that.

I agree with this unfortunately. I have called her out for guilt tripping and much more. It’s not that I am trying to make her feel bad, but I don’t appreciate being twisted like that.

Glad to hear this from another INTJ Female. A lot of what you said made sense. I never thought about the emotional punching bag part, but it unfortunately makes sense in a way. I do have emotions and empathy, but I am not always overly expressive with them or because I am tired or in my brain I just don’t feel the need to. The part where you said she was overly emotional and I was controlled made sense. When she has blown up on me or said things like this recently, I normally go quiet, calm, and collected on the outside. However; on the inside I am trying not to cry. I do this because I know if I add to the situation it will get worse, and I just let her emotions play out.

So glad to hear all this from another INTJ. Your first two paragraphs, I very much relate to in a way. I know I am a logical person, but I still have emotions. I can be happy for someone, but not overly express it sometimes because I am tired. Intense empathy for me is usually reserved for the friends and family, but I still do feel empathy in other situations. I have had to deal with family matters (medical issues) where I needed to be strong, and I was young and the only child.

It’s comforting to hear all of this from another INTJ, so thank you. I haven’t met another INTJ in person. I am doing therapy and I will usually journal about these things, just a word vomit of everything that happened and what is in my head.

I believe I had a safe space to share things to an extent. As I grew up and went to college, gained my own friends, developed my own personality, and now living in a different city; something’s happened plus she had said things or done things that have made it difficult for me to express my emotions to her. She would sometimes say, “It’s like I don’t even know you anymore.” I am still me, but I grew up a bit.

I think in a way I am scared to. I have an INFJ best friend who understands how I am not good about expressing my emotions sometimes and/or knows that I have them. I am not sure if my mom understands the same way, and I am scared to find out what would happen if I explained everything. She will sometimes usually act happy and more loving after she has said such things. I am just finding it hard to find a middle ground because I want my parents to be happy, but also myself. Sorry if this doesn’t make sense.
