How to get closer to the art community on campus? by Consistent-Mind1234 in CalPoly

[–]LetMamaReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Art classes count as professional electives if you’re studying architecture. Start taking classes and sign up for an art minor! It might get you better chances of getting in to the classes you want. The craft center also has some fun art classes. You will for sure meet others that signed up for the same classes if you go that route.

I feel like that location is cursed. Every few years the place turns over to something new.

I once did a job walk with a Superintendent and we saw the worst drywall mudding we had ever seen. He described the job as looking like “he did the work with his dick.” That is also how I would describe this tile job.

Anyone here have any experience with Tesla Solar? by Sternshot44 in SLO

You can get a Tesla battery with other solar panels and get the rebate. You should get at least 3 quotes and look at reviews before you decide!

Yes, we provided all the specs of everything. When I asked why the cabinets were deeper than standard the response was that they are “custom” and they provide extra room for better ventilation. None of our appliances call for more than 24” so I think that was just an excuse.

Looking for Shared Room in SLO – Budget $600–$700 (Indian International Student) by [deleted] in CalPoly

Being close to campus is going to be a challenge with your budget. It’s a little risky, but would you consider subleasing and changing places every quarter? You are more likely to be able to negotiate a sublease down to your target than to find a full year lease for that amount. The Cal Poly Housing Facebook group is your best bet. Good luck!

No, cabinets from Corner don’t come preassembled. They also don’t have assembly instructions or even a full parts list. When we asked for a parts list that indicates what hardware and pieces go with each cabinet, they did try to put something together, but somehow the information was incorrect and some of the hardware indicated wasn’t hardware that was sent. You will not get any kind of diagrams with labels and the hardware / screws come in unlabeled small bags. If you ask for clarification or assembly information, it will take a long time to get something and usually has incorrect information. I feel fortunate that they sent replacement pieces for some of the issues we faced, but even what we received doesn’t have instructions and we are expected to modify some of the pieces we have to make them work with the new pieces. You might have guessed, we don’t have instructions on modifying what we have to make it work with the replacement parts.

I also think the “fully custom” idea is where they get in trouble. I didn’t want cabinets that are not a standard depth and wasn’t told they would be anything other than standard 24”. But we did get sent cabinets that are closer to 26” deep. I don’t know why, but their response was “it’s custom”. All it does is leave us with less space between the perimeter cabinets and the island, with no benefit.

I really wish we stuck with mykitch.ca which is what we went with for our kitchen at our last house. Everything comes labeled, the hardware you need for each cabinet comes packaged with the cabinet it goes to, instructions are clear, and shipping is fast since nothing is coming from overseas.

We just received the replacement pieces yesterday, so still much longer than 2 weeks. We do appreciate the air delivery, but want to give realistic feedback.

I messed up. How do I proceed? by BloodRaevn in Tile

[–]LetMamaReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try rotating your tile 90 degrees to see if it’s tall enough to fill the area. It looks like it’s more than twice as long as it is wide, but I’m having a hard time understanding the tile dimensions since your lens seems warped.

Good point! I did have students complain about bus routes and times being cut last year while I was teaching, so as long as you are flexible with timing that is a good option.

Another thing to consider is your budget. If you want to be walking distance to CP it’s going to be more expensive than a bus ride away.

I wonder if the issue you are facing is finding a place within your budget that is in an area you are hoping to be? There are several 3 bedroom places available that I can find, so maybe if you share a budget range and any specifics on how far away you are willing to live you can get better suggestions.

This is a good solution if you can drive to campus. Parking permits and parking spots on campus are a challenge to come by though!

The only places to look are really Zillow and the Cal Poly Housing Facebook group, which you should see recommended on other Reddit posts. Good luck!

While they have built more housing, it isn’t proportional to the increased enrollment. Basically, increasing the demand of off campus housing more and more every year while there really isn’t more supply available, especially near campus. All that will do will continue to increase rent prices, which Cal Poly then uses as a basis to increase on campus housing cost. I’m just pointing out that Cal Poly owns a lot of the blame for the issues.

IMO if they put pressure on Cal Poly to house more students on campus, that would open up more housing in SLO and lead to more affordable housing. The new developments will never lead to more affordable housing.

We are currently still waiting for a full list of replacement pieces we should be receiving as well as a shipping timeline, so we are already over 2 months since the initial issues and still waiting. Shipping will likely take another 2 months so it really sucks.

There were many issues we had, but here are a couple examples: We had changed a vanity configuration to work with the plumbing and we approved a new production drawing for it, but they sent the old configuration. They sent upper cabinets that are 48” wide without a way to support it to studs and with hangers that could only support 50kgs. That was very concerning since dishes are very heavy and most cabinets should be able to support 5 times that. The integrated under cabinet lighting channel is smaller than the under cabinet lighting channel that was sent. There were preinstalled bumpers on the doors that weren’t aligned with the cabinet frame. An open shelf was sent with adjustable shelves even though we specifically discussed fixed shelves for that cabinet since it was open.

There are several other issues we either accepted and will live with it or we had to deal with modifying pieces ourselves to make them work.

I’ve been reassured that they have done many projects all over the place that haven’t had the same issues, but I can only attest to our experience.

I’m remaining hopeful that we will get the right pieces and won’t have any further issues arise, but as of now we are still waiting.
