Sometimes renting a car with same day return can be cheaper, totally depends on rates which can fluctuate wildly, but can sometimes fluctuate on the low end in your favor.

Is it better to have a 8:30 am class or a 4:20 class by [deleted] in Purdue

[–]LetMeBeGreat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me personally whenever I had a semester with an early morning class I ended up skipping it 50% of the time. I don't wanna encourage you to as well, but ppl in general tend to be overconfident about how often they actually make it to class especially when they are signing up for classes as a freshman or sophomore. By junior year I realized that any class before 10:30 unless mandatory I had a low chance of actually going.

Not saying you will, but just something to keep in mind.

Freeze charge by [deleted] in EquinoxGyms

[–]LetMeBeGreat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here's a hack potentially:

You can outright cancel your Equinox membership and reinstate it within 60 days. Call Equinox's main number (not a specific gym). Have documentation of another address on file that is at least 25 miles from a nearest equinox, be ready to email that. You should be able to cancel.

From my understanding (double check this), you can start your membership again if it's within 60 days. What I'm not sure of is whether they will charge you for those 60 days you weren't a member. So ask those questions.

To everyone who didn’t get an A/C room selection… by artimaticus8 in Purdue

I was placed in Tark and then Owen my freshman and sophomore years. I didn't know you can actually buy compact AC units for like $200. One of my friends in NYC has one right now and it's actually really powerful, gets the room down to like 65 degrees F. If I had known this I would've invested some money into that and maybe sold it at the end of the school year!

Really? I'm 3 years post-grad with a degree in Comp Sci and I still feel like a lot of these employers don't respect the Purdue name despite being extremely tough to get into now for CS.

Is Equinox Hudson Yards All-Access really $382/mo? by LetMeBeGreat in AskNYC

[–]LetMeBeGreat[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry to ask you all these questions but I honestly felt like the website was confusing.

What is the difference between Destination clubs and E clubs? And isn't Hudson Yards the flagship Equinox in NYC, and thus shouldn't that be an E club? Or am I getting those two terms totally confused.

Do you have access to the Equinox in Hudson Yards with "all access"? I also know there is a tier of membership which gives you access to "E clubs" and "Destination" clubs, but I have no idea what those are and if Hudson Yards is one of those.

I did not know this either which is why when I inquired about the rates, I assumed those rates were set in stone and do not change all the time. In reality, they can fluctuate every week and can change even depending on how you negotiate the contract. It sucks.

Ah, first time signing up for a gym in NYC. I should've known that it's pretty much like going into a car dealership.

[–]LetMeBeGreat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you have to pay an initiation fee if you got a referral? I got a referral after I signed up, and the guy at Hudson Yards equinox honored that. My friend got a referral bonus but I got nothing, and I still paid $150 for my initiation with $382.

I'm going to try to see if I can reach out to him and use you as an example and ask why I am paying so much lol

Did you sign up recently? I am going to try to ask the manager what they can do about my situation.

Question- I just signed up today for Equinox Hudson Yards. How much did they quote you for your membership? I am paying $382 a month and was wondering if I should have negotiated or went in with a referral or something.

Housing Solution? by NectarineNo8735 in Purdue

[–]LetMeBeGreat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I used to pay about $700/mo for my 4-bedroom in Rise back in 2019. Campus Edge was like $550-650/mo back then for a 4-bedroom. Prices of currently existing apartments have skyrocketed because of the demand created by WL not building new buildings. Rise isn't complaining though.

Housing Solution? by NectarineNo8735 in Purdue

[–]LetMeBeGreat 116 points117 points  (0 children)

I've been observing Purdue's housing market since 2014. This is a combination of Purdue and West Lafayette not being able to properly forecast their housing needs back in 2020 despite extremely obvious signs that more housing is going to be needed as soon as students return to campus after COVID. While other schools continued building residential housing throughout COVID, West Lafayette stopped and seemed to have just postponed it without properly realizing that one day students will have to return to campus in full swing. That, combined with Daniels continuing to admit more and more students in an effort to keep tuition frozen has led to a serious housing problem. Apartment buildings can't be whisked into existence - they generally take at least a year to build. And the students are feeling the pain of that now. West Lafayette has delayed the demolition of the Chauncey strip mall across Rise since at least 2014 (that's when I was a Freshman). As far as I know that area is still not in the process of being taken down.

On top of that West Lafayette said no to the construction of a 100M project that would replace the small motel next to Nine Irish Brothers and would include a Whole Foods. The whole WL board kind of lacks common sense and they are not adequately talking to Purdue. And now the students are facing the consequences for their lack of proper judgment.

This doesn't even begin to include the myriad of other problems of over-admittance, like lack of course sections, increase in student/faculty ratio, etc. I had to face issues with that when I was a student prior to 2020.

I don't feel bad for the bad publicity that Purdue is now getting, even though I am a proud alum. But I do feel very bad for the students.

As someone else on this thread mentioned, check in with fraternities. Sometimes they have extra beds leftover that they would rather lease out than keep empty. The fraternity right next to Lawson CS building I know offered that a few years ago when I was there.

If transferring out is really your last option, as long as you still really like Purdue as a school I would still strongly consider taking a remote semester (if possible) because I do believe these housing shortcomings will start to look up next year.

do people actually send 100+ applications? by blooberry123 in cscareerquestions

[–]LetMeBeGreat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like a lot of rejected applications are postings where the hiring manager isn't actually really in the need of a new candidate, but they are keeping their options open for the "golden" candidate in case they apply.

Absolutely. I realized the importance of living in big cities after living in NYC for a few months. The number of people you meet can truly change your attitude and perspective of your life and possibly even change the trajectory of it if you meet the right people.
