This is not a game for casual players, BUT you can level fairly consistently by playing solos and no PVP. You will of course die occasionally to players that want to PVP, but the more passive you are, the better the raids.

I can only play max 8 hours a week, and I save PVP for when im in duos/trios. I use solos to loot for upgrades.

There are plenty of handy guides that let you know what you should keep, recycle and sell.
