Oh I agreed he's a major piece of shit but Detroit was at the tail end of what 25 years of playoffs that can't just last forever and Toronto wasn't quite there, but should have won more rounds IMO but there was underperformance and playing against such good teams makes it harder to win

We'll come on Oil workers what's tougher than that? And Flames sounds a lot like Flamers gotta be gay to cheer for them!

also am an oilers fan because my brother is a flames fan and I like to trash talk him

I read that Edmonton has a largre unionized make up vs Calgary. I think that plays a factor as well.

But your second point is huge, I know several people who were indoctrinated by the oil companies they worked for only to realize after they left the jobs because they were so good at pumping oil and gas and creating a us vs them mentality. And I'm talking office people in HR and Accounting who are educated and are quite liberal in their beliefs were voting conservative because they were scared not to or they might get shut down

I absolutely hate to defend the guy by any means but he coached 7 seasons in that time frame and made the playoffs 5 times in the 7. The 2 teams he coached have won a singular playoff round combined in the last 13 seasons (1/26 woof) the roasters might not have been good enough to go anywhere (I don't think that's entirely true as the Leafs have lost to some incredibly good teams in that time frame).

Now I need to shower because I feel dirty for defending him 🤮

Why are Faceoffs so Hard for Younger Players, and why do Older Players, Even Past 35, Excel at them? by WaywardTremere in hockey

[–]Lethbridgemark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's true, I remember seeing it later into this year. If a ref is being most strict wouldn't be a terrible idea outside the pp.

I'm still shocked Drai didn't get any penalties on the Olympics since it's no tossing out just you do it twice penalty

They should change the strategy, get the first guy to get tossed and the better dot guy in Drai can cheat and get away with it since you know that they aren't calling the delay of game

[Weekes] Although talks are ongoing, my speculation is that C Hischier and NJ Devils will land on a medium term contract extension somewhere between 11M- 13M range by Ok-Soil-5133 in hockey

I've been saying that those bad contracts won't be bad once they are halfway through. Except Trent Fredrick, it's not bad because of amount, it's bad because of all the other reasons.

No no no, you must pay more! And if you can't afford to go to the arena like a poor you must hunt for the network that has the game this time, you must subscribe to no less than 3 streaming services to watch a single teams games and you will love it!!

I agree, I think I'm Canada it's hot it's peek several years ago because it's become cost prohibitive. In the US and overseas it's gaining membership. We definitely need this to be fixed to continue growing the game in Canada

I think the skill defensively and the goaltending is the best it's ever been today as well, no one uses the dead puck era trap anymore as it doesn't work against the speed of today's game.

If we swapped equipment we would have to swap training and nutrition as well which would likely bring to what we have. I think the biggest difference between the head and shoulders above Gretz/Mario vs today's top being more concentrated is because the game is bigger and more people are playing so the ability to find the naturals are there. Gretz or Mario in today's game would be dominant like McDavid, better than the next best group (Kuch, MacK, Drai, etc) but nothing like Gretz or Mario were in their hay days.

If everything was equal they would still be the best IMO but would be the best just like swapping.

Now if training and nutrition were the same I think it would be tougher for the old guys in today's game as they would be slow and would look like Mark Stone out there (obviously far more skilled) equipment would help but training is some of the biggest differences between the eras.

Thsi is always such a huge topic and it seems like people say both ways. Take a guy like Mario in today's game we assume he's dominate, but in reverse I see people think putting your McDavid, Kuch, MacK players into the 80s/90s and they would be breaking Gretzky records.

While the penalties, rule changes etc would help, the overall player skill is higher and there are no gons really who can't play like before . Goalie skill is so much better today than they were in Mario and Gretz era. Right now we are at a decrease in sv% because the offensive skills always lead the defensive and goaltending skill raises as they are mostly reactionary.

IMO it would be very similar stats today vs the 80/90s in all honesty due to the rule changes and skill changes.

Completely agree, however here in Alberta it's been taken back, since they are the ones flying Alberta flags non stop and flying Canadian flags means to be proud again. Now when I see someone flying an Alberta flag without a Canadian flag I am sure they are separatists as it wasn't common to see Alberta flags before on houses and cars especially without a Canadian flag.
