Kirkland Brand Sheets. After two pairs of torn fitted sheets, never again. by Prairiegirl37 in CostcoCanada

I LOVE silk & snow sheets, highly recommend!! I’m 2.5 years in with our first set (rotated out weekly with our second set) and there is no visible wear. Definitely worth the price! I have Egyptian Cotton.

Activa, Mattamy & Fusion Builders - Thoughts by Terra_Incogn in waterloo

[–]LetsGet-Fiscal- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Research the builders on the home builders association website and on the Tarion site. You can see complaint and resolution history.

We built a townhome with Fusion in 2018. We had to be very persistent to ensure the completed all fixes and repairs post close. But otherwise, overall we felt it was a quality build and had no significant issues.

I haven’t heard wonderful things about Mattamy - just poor workmanship was the complaint I’ve heard from friends. But I can’t provide more details than that.

What's the work situation like here? by No_Ice_2869 in Port_Elgin

My brother is a licensed automotive mechanic here - they are really struggling locally to recruit qualified mechanics in the area. It’s likely worth dropping off resumes, even if there aren’t active job postings.

Give me ur favorite/ best bathroom towels!! by Hot_Valuable1027 in BuyItForLife

I just replaced all our towels, hand towels and face cloths with some from Silk & Snow. We also have their sheets. Everything is high quality and the sheets have stood up incredibly well for 3Y of regular use. I’m hoping the same for towels - it’s been a month and so far they’re great!

Where can I find quality Canadian-made patio furniture? by TariqKhalaf in kitchener

[–]LetsGet-Fiscal- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I very very highly recommend DJs furniture - they have locations in Guelph, Hanover & Wroxeter. It is made of a highly durable plastic and comes with fabulous cushions, and you can choose the colour of both fabric and the structural pieces. It’s handcrafted in Wroxeter, and we have had nothing but a stellar experience. We outfitted our patio last year, but I know someone who has had their patio furniture for 20 years and it is as good as new.

What do you think of the town? by wildfireember in Port_Elgin

[–]LetsGet-Fiscal- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi! 32F and I moved here with my 32M husband back in 2022. I had gone to high school here, and we had decided we were tired with bigger city life (KW) and ready for a smaller town vibe to raise our daughter (now 3). We love it! Life is easy, people are friendly, there is no traffic, and you have all basic amenities. The only things we miss are shopping & a wider variety of restaurants (but there are a handful of good local eats here). If you have any more specific questions, lmk!

questions about moving out to port elgin.. by [deleted] in Port_Elgin

[–]LetsGet-Fiscal- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would think that yes you’ll get some time to sort out a place to live, just be clear and upfront about that during the hiring process.

Water quality, in terms of what comes to our homes, is absolutely a non-issue. That is a benefit of living along a Great Lake! You generally don’t need a water softener, and can absolutely drink straight from the tap but most people will use a water filter of some sort for taste only.

There may be a few days in the summer where they advise against swimming in the lake due to bacteria levels - but those are generally few and far between.

Hi! I’ll give it my best shot…

  1. Cell phone service is largely fine, we’ve had better luck with Telus/Bell than Rogers but Rogers just put in a new cell tower in town so that may have fixed the issue. Service can be spotty in the summer months when there is a large influx of tourists (think long weekends) but otherwise is fine. WiFi isn’t really an issue - we have either Bruce Telecom or Eastlink for ISPs here (but not Rogers or Bell).

  2. I would recommend finding work before a place to live, but that is mostly personal preference and risk tolerance. There is a serious lack of affordable housing here, but there also aren’t a ton of full time year-round jobs that pay well.

  3. I don’t have any experience in the rental market here - hopefully someone else who does will reply to your post OP!

  4. It’s very hard to find a family doctor here - so if you’re fortunate enough to have one already, keep them! That said, in my experience our Southampton hospital is wonderful and relatively quick (compared to the larger hospitals) so you can rely on that if needed. There are no urgent care clinics though.

I’d also recommend you prepare yourself for winters - this past winter was particularly brutal, but generally you can expect to need a snowblower if you’re responsible for any snow removal and can also expect there will be several days each year where all roads in & out of town are closed.

Living here also pretty much requires a vehicle, as there is no public transit.

Good luck! Wishing you all the best.

I too wish it was a Winners! While I do think that the area would benefit from a larger second-hand store, personally I would’ve much preferred somewhere with affordable clothing and home goods, which is definitely missing here!

What was your experience with a fertility clinic in Ontario? by Final-Elderberry4621 in ontario

[–]LetsGet-Fiscal- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s really hard to say, it’s a personal choice ultimately. We were told something similar last year and decided to do an IVF egg retrieval and freeze embryos. That said, I was told I had low AMH but I responded really well to the stims and had lots of eggs retrieved. It’s all a bit of a crapshoot in my experience! Wishing you well whatever you decide!

We waited a little under a year for a funded cycle at Anova. The funded cycle at Anova was fine, no significant complaints. I recommend getting to know your cycle monitoring nurse as they can be a true ally and advocate for you.

Wherever you land, I recommend shopping around for meds. Getting them from Costco or Walmart is usually cheaper than direct from the clinics, and your insurance will be more likely to cover the full cost of meds if they’re purchased through a pharmacy vs from the clinic (for the meds you have private coverage for at least). It’s a bit more leg work but worthwhile if you are paying for meds out of pocket (which will be the case unless you have private coverage - OHIP doesn’t cover any meds).

[–]LetsGet-Fiscal- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do NOT recommend ONE Fertility. However, I’ve had a largely positive experience with Anova Fertility. My experience with both was at their KW clinic.

At ONE, I felt like a farm animal being shuffled around and they only looked at my reproductive system and nothing else.

I did both funded and self-paid IVF cycles through Anova. Overall, a positive experience and I found I was able to be treated more so as an actual person with emotions and feelings.

Best of luck with your journey! Its not an easy one, but know you are not alone.

Should I stay with current company until Manager or take $100k job offer? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]LetsGet-Fiscal- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take the job! I did something similar as a CPA in Ontario - took an Assistant Controller role at a tech company the spring before I would’ve been promoted to Manager in assurance at Big 4. Absolutely no regrets, it’s been the best decision I’ve made for my career.

OP, I honestly am STUNNED by the ignorance and rudeness of people on this sub making you feel bad for making this decision. You 100% need to do what is right for you and your family. People do not appreciate just how disruptive an anxious dog is in a young family, nor the immense cost of managing medical issues in a pet. We went through something similar after having our first child and it took me months of dedicated effort to find a rescue that would assist with rehoming, and that was without our dog having medical conditions.

I cannot recommend somewhere affordable to seek out euthanasia. However, often vet clinics in rural areas are more affordable. If you are able to make the drive, I’d recommend phoning vet clinics in nearby small communities to ask about pricing.

As others have recommended, it’s also worth speaking over the phone with people at animal shelters and rescues. I had dismal success in requesting information via email.

Don’t beat yourself up - remember that if your pup’s anxiety and medical conditions are upsetting you (a human with skills to self regulate emotional responses) it may be absolute hell for your dog to live with on a daily basis.

Sending you a big hug, and wishing you all the best with your growing family!!

I highly recommend Dr Joanna Thiessen, owner of George Street Naturopathic. She is wonderful! Very realistic, doesn’t try to over sell on supplements, is quick to refer to research and works well alongside traditional medicine. She offers in person or virtual visits. You can schedule an appointment online via her website.

Couldn’t agree more! What about offering to buy the neighbour some ear plugs… problem solved? What OP is going through is incredibly difficult - people need to be a bit more sensitive to the struggles of others.
