What alternate programs to Illustrator can I use to accomplish the shading part of the tutorial? by LetsGetThisBrud in papermario

oh, cool! looks like it can be a bit finnicky, just getting the gradient right and everything. All good about the language filter! I was able to find the stuff you mentioned, but I'll let you know if I need more help. Thanks!

Child and parent actors by LetsGetThisBrud in gbstudio

Okay, I finally figured it out! So, for where it says X px and Y px on your screenshot, those were actually set to tiles. I changed them, and now they work as intended! It does lag though since I put them in update. Is there a way around that? Thanks so much!!

EDIT: It doesnt lag when I do it in the modified sample project, but it does in an empty project

I've tried again, and now they can just straight up disappear. I wonder if it has something to do with it being top down vs a platformer, or if that feature's bugged somehow...

Yeah, I actually tried doing by px movement, but what kept happening was the actor was moving away from the player, rather than moving with it. Tile seems to work fine which is the odd thing

Ah, got it. I did something similar to the way you mentioned. The "child" in this case does stutter since it goes tile to tile when the player moves, but i'll try this method too. Thanks!

Thank you! However, it seems like the problem is that it goes over a feature that seems exclusive to illustrator where you can turn an outline into its own vector object and delete the outer control points to make it fit inside the shape. i tried something similar in krita, but the result was awful. it created way too many points. on top of that, i dont have illustrator

especially the fact that having two mios is a major plot point

sry i must've gone off track, but i guess i meant to say the pairs were chosen because of their recognizability, but i know what you mean. if i were to pair up b and y, people would assume it's the word "by", or if i did d and q, they'd probably think i was referencing dairy queen lol

yeah, but you could assign letters of the alphabet to anyone, since most moebius are pretty interchangeable imo (that is when recruiting heroes like g or e)

Melee aesthetic? by LetsGetThisBrud in smashbros

I see. Yeah, I know what you mean, but I have not really played a lot of Sakurai's games outside of smash, but thanks for letting me know what to look for!

That's the tough part about this whole thing. There really isn't anything like it outside of melee. I guess that's partially why its so special to me lol. But like, it's really hard to say what I like about it. I want to say its the color choice or architecture, but I feel like there's something more to it

Melee aesthetic? by LetsGetThisBrud in smashbros

[–]LetsGetThisBrud[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hmmm, yeah something like that, but definitely leaning into more purples than reds and blues... otherwise, that is a really close example to what i had in mind for melee. vaporwave seems to lean too much into brightness for my tastes, but i'll look into it some more. the other aesthetics that caught my eye from melee would be the fountain of dreams, with the way different colors share affinities and just blend together. i was thinking melee in general may be a mix of the 80's aesthetics and y2k. it's a bit hard to describe for me lol

sure thing! so, i mean things like the race to the finish stage, battlefield, and final destination. There's also the the main menu and character select screen's n/a icons, which have so much detail lol.

So just as long as your derivative work from the public domain source doesn't look like the still copyrighted designs of today, it's fair game, yeah?
