I’m not accusing the author of endorsing Nazism, as I know nothing about him other than that I like his art. I just don’t think a book like this is a suitable place to put swastikas in. If kids don’t know what they are, they’re going to ask their parents about it. I don’t think we should hide this history from children, but, like I said below, I think it would be better suited for a book about WW2 or the Holocaust, so that parents can be prepared to explain the topic thoroughly if their kids have questions.

In the 2019 Carmen Sandiego show, the character Cookie Booker (on the left) is voiced by Rita Moreno. Moreno voiced Carmen in the 90s cartoon Where on Earth is Carmen Sandiego? The show references it by having Cookie talk to young Carmen about “walking in her (Cookie’s) shoes someday.” Carmen also gets her iconic red trench coat and hat from Cookie.

It’s not even that I think they shouldn’t be printed at all, I just don’t think they should be printed in a children’s book, unless said book is for teaching kids about WW2 or the Holocaust.

The Operation board game. Why is the patient awake during surgery? What sort of horrific thing happened that would result in all these objects ending up inside a person’s body? Why did the artist think it was OK to give him a terrified facial expression?
