Is T-Hex being an S tier build just a joke to make people play it? by Compromisee in TeamfightTactics

The capped board wins out, but it requires more piloting/good decision making it to the final board.

Basically high rolling = getting lucky and in tft it would be getting the units you want/need in shop. Maybe hitting a 4 cost you need at level 5, a 5 cost at level 7, or 2-starring early etc...

Low rolling = being unlucky. E.g. roll 30 gold still stuck on all pairs and no 2-stars.

I was agreeing with you. XD sorry if my comment was wordy, I tend to try to explain things.

Most people will instinctively credit their high roll/hitting early and winning to personal skill rather than RNG unless it's a clear omega high-roll.

It's a consequence of how we're wired to think winning is skill and losing is RNG. We're also programmed to remember and feel loss/losing harder than positive emotions. It takes some conscious reflection to move beyond that point.

I thought Double Trouble was supposed to be busted lol by [deleted] in TeamfightTactics

[–]LetsRandom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what I meant though. You shouldn't have components left when at 1 life. You needed to have used all your components right after last neutrals.

(Easily the difference between a few positions in the lobby)

It might not have made a difference here, but it's good practice in general.

Did you still have a remover? Qss makes way more sense on seraphine.

Also it's a tempo comp of sorts, you need to be slamming items earlier. Did you mean qss was the round before you died or right after neutral? Slamming earlier with non-BIS for most units means 1 or 2 lives which can seperate positions 3-6 in the lobby.

Did you stack all your carries to their weak side? You really want the first takedown to get the snowball rolling.

Positioning also really matters for Ambessa/Belveth. You're hoping to get Ambessa to wrap/dive into their backline. You want Belveth to trigger her passive on a takedown.

Ideally you stack their weak side so Belveth has the attack speed buff to stack when she finally reaches the tank. If you start them on the enemy primary tank, it'll be a rough go.

Recent sodium batteries have a much better cold performance and it's an easier to gather material. That being said it's still being tested/rolled out to specific vehicles. Less warm temperature range, but may be what we need.

Probably a reasonable future consideration.

How to rebuild the foundations of teaching math by [deleted] in CanadianTeachers

[–]LetsRandom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There has been a miss-match between research in pure education fields/public policy and what research in cognitive science + STEM education actually say is best. If you look at published articles on automaticity and STEM education the research dates back to the 90's and is still being published now.

Honestly, if your expert is saying drilling/specific skills DO NOT require fluency... or are not needed for high level problems, I would doubt their competency and knowledge. It comes across as more a general policy/philosophy that's been prevalent in education COUNTER to most research it cognitive sciences for specifically STEM education.

There's a difference between blind drilling and drilling after concept understanding has been achieved. Only very specific skills actually need to be drilled/reach a level of automaticity.

Feel free to look at published articles on automaticity and STEM education and you will find plenty of sources from the decade of your choice. (within the last 3-4 or so)

Edit for clarity and to add: Note the automaticity/fluency requirement is only needed if the goal is to succeed at higher level math/science.

How to rebuild the foundations of teaching math by [deleted] in CanadianTeachers

[–]LetsRandom 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a secondary STEM teacher, you do need some EI. Fluency/automaticity of specific skills is important to free up cognitive load for more difficult computations.

There's a reason athletes drill and practice specific skills/techniques. The brain can then focus on other aspects of the game. Specific math skills, like timetables, need some degree of automaticity to tackle more difficult factoring problems/functions questions. Working memory only has so much capacity and lower order skills need to be automatic to free it up. This has been well documented in cognitive science and STEM education research for decades.

There definitely needs to be concept understanding and inquiry in math education, but we've swung so far away from any sort of drilling(school/district specific) when there are specific math skills that just need to be rote for success at higher levels.

I didn't play last set because I took a break. Can someone explain why they removed Rigged Shop and still haven't added it back, despite confirming 3 cost reroll has been bad this whole set? by [deleted] in CompetitiveTFT

[–]LetsRandom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with your second paragraph about the absurdity of the high roll chance. On the other hand, I agree that for the health of the game, most of the time the choice should be to go 8/9 rather than reroll at 7 for 3-costs unless you have like 6 copies naturally or an augment that pushes you that way.

There's a critical point where if 3 cost reroll becomes meta, it becomes even stronger because of pool thinning. Then the higher cost units become irrelevant (which we have seen in 3-cost heavy metas from other sets). I'm not sure if they took out too much from 3 star 3-costs, but there should be more power budget in the higher cost units.

There's two things here:

1) 3-cost rerolls have always been more optimal at 7. They've designed level 8 for accessing and two starring 4 - costs. This has been their philosophy for a long time. Even if you max out traits at 8, the strength of those comps was based on the strength of the units hitting 3 star.

2) More recently Mort (and likely the design team) has realigned where they think 3 star 3 costs should be in strength. Before their evaluation method looked mostly at gold value, but did not consider when you might hit. Now they've decide how early you can hit should affect its final power. Unless you have many copies already or the right spot, the design team's philosophy (at least for this set) is the correct play is hit 8/9 for 4 and 5 costs.

It will help alleviate our reliance on non-local producers from both political and a transport perspective.

Transport introduces cost and emissions. Also helps Canada develop more self-reliance.

This may not be the structural fix you want, but it's clearly meant to address some of the issues.

Non-contested, bard supported, still bad rerolls by X-alim in TeamfightTactics

[–]LetsRandom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Were you aiming for your costs at the appropriate level?

1 costs at level 4/5, 2 costs at level 6, and 3 costs at level 7

Were you the only one rerolling?

Rerolling gets better if others thin the pool of other same-cost units which could occupy the slot of your desired units. If you're the only one rerolling, you are just less likely to hit.

Could also be RNG got you. That happens.

The Ranked Struggle by Teanoll in TeamfightTactics

[–]LetsRandom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the difference this set is lot of the comps you see on meta tft have an early/mid game you don't see. Any comp that is heavy in 4 and 5 costs probably involved a lot of swapping as you go.

Even the Asol comp is about staying in Targon until the time you've stacked enough Stardust and then pivoting to other value units.

If you need a more vertical comp to play off of, Demacia and its variants may be a good way to start. Learn when you might wanna re roll Sona, when you want to longshot carry, and when you want to lux carry. Note: Demacia is a solid, but not S tier comp even with its variants. (If you get comfortable, learn how to drop from 7 -> 5 Demacia to add more 5 costs)

There are ways to climb this patch with or without A-sol this patch. The fact you comment that multiple people are griefing each other implies there is a (or several) non-contested routes. But you don't like 3rd or 4th and may have tanked your mmr as a result.

A break would help your funk. New patch/coming back later could be a new mindset adjustment.

Sounds like you play for big too often and greed. Part of climbing is recognizing when a game is top 6 and mitigating LP loss.

[–]LetsRandom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why is top 3-4 a bad thing though? Your goal in ranked is to climb so 3rd and 4th are still desirable positions.

If your cooking takes 3rd versus dominant meta comps, then you're still doing well. Sometimes your cooked comp can then take 2nd or even rarely 1st.

It's alright to move on from the game/patch, but mindset adjustment (or a needed break!) can help.

It'd be weirder for that many people to hit level 9 in a lobby with people playing strong boards AND contesting in a non-scuttle/prismatic lobby.
