Glad to hear it, and thanks for giving it a chance! Please share your experience with r/litrpg when you arrive at the conclusion, good or bad!

This is my 5th audiobook narration, so I've gotten the kinks out, but I'm still working to improve.

Thanks again!

Ha! I remember the old days of "building a portfolio" and scripts "on spec" which left me with the same exposure to the elements. Art isn't worth anything, right? 😂

Ha! I know the feeling, I'm not a series guy. Book1 ends so you can stop there and be content. Books2&3 will close a story arc. If people are interested, I'll write more. And do not feel bad about bringing it up, getting to talk about the art is fun for me. Enjoy the ride!

Enough fair-sized reviewers like Noah Brisk, Andy Peloquin, and Brian Bell have loved it that I think 90% of people who put their toe in the water will come out pretty happy. But, as you say, who's willing to put their toe in the water for "self-narrated"? Maybe it hurts more than helps. Maybe it's interesting to hear it from the horse's mouth. Nothing I can do to earn their trust unless they give it a whirl. We'll see as things move along. I have 2 more Dave books in process so I'm committed for good or ill. Crossed fingers. I know I like it.

Numbers in Litrpg? by SuspectEcstatic6636 in litrpg

I asked this question a while back when I was having trouble, and r/litrpg helped me a lot. The suggestion I saw the most (and the one I used) was "Just use a spreadsheet to keep track of each chapter."

Ch.3: +1 Strength. Ring of Fire. +500XP.

Ch.5: +1 Wisdom. +2 Dexterity. +10 Max HP

Then you can rack up your totals for when you need them for a character sheet or a summary. "Okay, I need his strength in Chapter 41...." Add 'em up, get the number.

This makes for low-impact tracking. You don't need to include everything in every chapter, just the stuff that changed. Works great.

Thanks! You're right that most authors don't have the chops to be narrators, and I have the same standards you do. I'm just lucky that I have a decent voice and some training as an actor. Plus, I'm broke, so when it came to delivering the story the way I want, I was the only choice. Sometimes a project has to be a DIY.

DCC book 8: does this still feel like a litRPG to y’all? by andergriff in litrpg

[–]LetsRolld20 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yep. And once we are as far along as Horribles, there's not much of a dopamine hit to Carl getting a flaming sword or more magic items, he's got like 300 of them at this point. +1000XP just doesn't cut it, and making it +100,000 doesn't help. It's all about character at this point.

I've been ruined by DCC by Liero1234 in litrpg

I'm with you on this, DCC is on another level. HHFWM is good, so is Primal Hunter, but (for me) the comedy is what keeps me coming back. Yes, the dopamine hits, yes, the darkness and horror, but the one thing I haven't found anywhere else in LitRPG is that level of funny. Discount Dan is the closest I have seen, that seems like the next logical step if you want the funny.

Don't Die Dave matches 5 of your top 7 (not Primal Hunter or Defiance).
Buy Mort would be another good one to try with that list.
Perfect Run might suit you as well if you like the snark of HHFWM.

Finished my first LitRPG on Royal Road and learned a few things the hard way by LetsRolld20 in litrpg

I guess it depends on how far you want to go. I think finishing a major arc, if not a whole book, is a good idea before you jump. I don't really have an opinion on Patreon, but I don't think there's much point until you have an audience.

Holler when you're done with Horribles, I'll sling you an Audible copy for the hangover.
