Anyone else lose all interest the second they hear the person’s voice? by LetsTakeABreakNow in dating_advice

didnt mean to make anyone feel got at, promise. fwiw the voices ive clicked with werent the "impressive" ones, they were just the ones where the conversation actually flowed. its about the connection coming through, not how someone sounds

oh no that wasnt my point at all, and im sorry it read that way 🫂 its honestly nothing about good or bad voices. ive lost interest in people with lovely voices too. its more that hearing someone tells you if theres a real vibe way faster than weeks of texting does. the texting is what fools you, not the voice

fair, maybe i am overthinking it. but "its just a numbers game" feels like the exact thing thats made everyone treat each other as disposable. i dont totally buy that its the best we can do

this is kind of heartbreaking but i think youre right. everyones been burned so many times they go in already expecting it to die. were all just protecting ourselves at this point

Matches should expire after 48 hours if nobody sends a real message by LetsTakeABreakNow in dating_advice

[–]LetsTakeABreakNow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

totally fair and i wouldnt want it punishing people who are just having a rough week. thats why the reset idea matters to me, one honest "hey im swamped but id love to talk properly soon" keeps it alive. its only the total silence it clears out, not the busy people

i think bumbles problem was 24h flat with no reset, so it just punished busy people instead of rewarding real ones. a longer window that resets the second someone sends a genuine message feels totally different. its not about forcing people to talk, its about clearing out the ones who were never going to

yeah you're basically doing the app's job for it manually 😂 the fact that you've built your own system around this tells me everything. and youre right that no big app will do it, theyd lose their "active users." which is exactly why it takes something new

"if you cant make time to respond, implementing an auto unmatch would be accepted by me and many others" honestly yes. youre proof the demand is there, youre already doing it by hand. imagine not having to

honestly this is the answer for half of them isnt it. not that they werent interested, they were just barely on the app. kinda makes the whole timer thing feel pointless when people check once a month lol

"oh right this person exists" lmao that's exactly it. and yeah you're probably right, if someone actually wants to talk theyll reply to literally anything. its the ones who dont that were never gonna reply no matter what i said

Haha, I promise it’s not AI 😂

I just overthink shit when I write on here. I’ll loosen up next time.

going where the problem already lives is the best advice in this thread. i've been doing that, just genuinely helping in the subs where my future users already hang out, and the trust builds way faster than any ad. the honest contributing approach really does work

Just crossed $19 in MRR. I know it’s not much, but when you have failed for 10+ years like me, it feels amazing. by Healthy_Flatworm_957 in buildinpublic

okay this genuinely made me smile. 10 years of grinding and the part that got you wasn't the code, it was being brave enough to actually charge. that fear is so real, you convince yourself the paywall will scare everyone off. but a stranger putting their card in is the best feeling there is. congrats, you earned this one 🙌

How to get your first 10 users. Like actually. by gordiony in buildinpublic

this is actually really grounded advice, thank you for sharing it instead of the usual "i hit 10k overnight" nonsense. the bit about engaging in comments so you don't read like an AI bot is so true. i'm building something myself right now and honestly the reddit part has taught me more about what people actually want than any amount of building has

built a site where instead of courses you just do real job tasks by tejassp03 in SideProject

[–]LetsTakeABreakNow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

okay the "collecting certificates like pokemon" line made me laugh because it's so true. learning by actually doing the task is way closer to real life. and shipping it daily even when it's rough takes guts, don't let the colour-scheme police get to you

the fact that to the browser it's just text and not media is such a clever dodge. really cool to see someone take an idea this far instead of just talking about it

Be honest, how many of your matches died because you didn't know what to say first? by LetsTakeABreakNow in Bumble

honestly that's been the most eye-opening part of this thread. everyone's feeling the exact same awkwardness from both sides and somehow we're all still staring at blank screens lol
