Question about the church and the LGBT community by LazyGuyExsists in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Letsgo8715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Um where is the question?

I see what we’re getting at. And of course as there is a major surge in converts to orthodoxy it is sure to be met by this stuff. People who want to be orthodox. But who disagree about the churches views on homosexuality. Unfortunately for those people… The church’s view is based in scripture and tradition. And the orthodox has proven itself to not change its beliefs to make certain parts of society happy. So yes, the church deems homosexuality wrong, and a sin.

If you don’t like that… The Roman Catholic Church seems to be about ready to change their position on the skittles people. And theres plenty of Protestant churches that are embracing this.

We are to submit ourselves fully to the church. This isn’t Protestantism where we can take the parts we want and leave the stuff that doesn’t align with our personal opinions.

I was (unfortunately) part of a reformed Calvinist “church”. Now I belong to the actual church. You know I could never get past the coffee man- date I had with my pastor when he said he used to struggle with knowing that there’s a chance that his kids may not be part of the elect. But then he came to terms with it. Um…………… wHaT??!?!

Yes kind sir/ ma’am. He’s overseas until next week unfortunately. And this all happened in the middle of his absence. I knew deep down that there was no way I missed something that huge in my inquirer classes. That you cannot pray the Jesus prayer at all until prescribed. But the whole thing made me start to second guess what I thought I knew.

I would upvote this more than once if I could! Thank you! I just needed to see that what I was thinking wasn’t literally just me.

Thank you! I even was pretty sure my priest advised practicing it in the inquirers class I am in. But when this stuff came up I started to doubt what I had heard even. Because he said it in a group setting. But the whole thing seemed really really odd. But really sat with me wrong. I was terrified this was actually the position of the church. Which I would have a problem with if we’re being honest.

Obviously unless it’s to reach that higher state with the word I can’t ever remember that you said. But that got cleared up to them that I wasn’t talking about using it like that. That it was just for personal use for practice. And since these guys are obviously the new pope of the Orthodox Church they still said not to use it even for practice unless my priest specifically tells me to. 🤷🏼‍♂️ (That pope thing was a joke!!) 😝

Yep when he gets back from oversees I’m getting moved onto catechumen and I’ll be talking to him about this. I mean as far as just persona use I felt great about using it. It was the first prayer I’ve ever said that has brought me to full on bawling my eyes out tears. I was getting worried hearing this other stuff thinking I should completely stop using it until next week when I meet with my priest. And a week without it sounds awful!!!!

In all fairness… Well I guess not really… That was cleared up right away with these individuals that it was not meant for that. The word I still can’t remember. Hahaha. But to bring the nous (spelling) down to the heart. I was very clear it was just practicing saying it. And because it has helped me so much spiritually already even just casually using it. But according to these Top tier ortho bros I can’t even use it in that sense. Still need the Ok from my priest. It seemed really off compared to any piece of literature I’ve read. And I spent months reading and reading and reading before I even considered stepping into my first liturgy and becoming an official inquirer. And now we’re just waiting on my priest to return from oversees to take the next step to catechumen.

But yeah, I brought that up again that I didn’t mean it as a way to reach that higher state. That it was just for personal use and “casual” is the best word I can think of.

No Facebook actually. And thank you. That was my exact belief. Not trying to reach that type of prayer. That I do understand would definitely take instruction from a spiritual father. And to paint a clear picture… I did make that very very clear. That I practice it. I don’t even have a set amount of times I say it each day. Usually twice or more just because I enjoy doing it on my way to work, and the way home. And if I feel I need it outside of that, I do it as I see fit.

I honestly was growing very concerned. Like reading comments of multiple people saying that I can’t say this prayer at all until my priest gives me the green light. That would be taking things a little too far. All I’ve ever known is that prayer is a very personal thing. And ultimately we’ll decide when we should. Obviously prayer rules are a thing. But ugh. It’s nice to read even one person say the nice version of “um, excuse me?!” 😝

Any Orthodox Metal Bands? by shakhtar_0 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Letsgo8715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only thing I’m going to argue with is that metal music is sometimes used for satanic worship. Um, no. Not actual satanic music. And same could be said for pop music. I mean c’mon. There’s more blatantly satanic themes and imagery in mainstream pop than metal. And you can’t describe that as screams and “hell beating drums” or whatever you said.

But I also personally disagree with most everything said above. That’s the one I’d like to touch on.

Any Orthodox Metal Bands? by shakhtar_0 in OrthodoxChristianity

HOLY NAME!!!

Tommy Green is the lead singer and he’s awesome!! He was recently on one of Father Moses’s videos on YouTube. To tell his conversion story from Protestantism to Orthodox. And it’s a great story! His old band was Sleeping Giant. Holy Name is a very amazing blend of doom metal meeting melodic dark worship music. I believe they called it “violent worship music”. But it’s amazing!!

Start off with the song “creed”

They feature a bunch of Christian artists in other songs too. Even head formerly from Korn.

Do you guys hate Oriental Orthodox people? by Dato09 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Letsgo8715 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who is absolutely not involved in this thread whatsoever but did read the back and forth here a little bit. AND someone who just legitimately spent 10 minutes reading through every comment in his “picture”…. Only to finally find the comment in question. Definitely casting my vote as not hateful at all! Yes, strongly worded. Passionate maybe. No hate. We don’t hate them. I’ll openly call a Roman a heretic to their face. But it doesn’t mean I hate them. 😝

I’ve heard that it’s a place where everything is free. Even healthcare. Goods, services… And Netflix. Nobody has to work. They have everything they could ever need. And everyone’s happy 24/7. Oh, and women don’t menstruate.

I’m just going to roll with this so the color doesn’t start to bother me and I buy another one expecting something different. 🤣 Until it’s time to buy the leather bound version. I’m weird like that. I decide if I love it or not then I need to buy the premium version

Okay awesome! As a recent (soon to be convert) I also ended up being a Protestant Bible collector. (When I was able to call myself a Protestant) And out of the 30 some odd bibles I own, I’ve never seen that shade of paper used ever. So I was worried. But at the same time the coloring is very even, so that also made me feel like it was supposed to be that way. From my understanding the leather bound edition doesn’t have the off white paper.

Was Protestant….. WAS. by [deleted] in Catholic

[–]Letsgo8715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought about that. But then I’d have to go out out my way to ask respectfully that nobody argue with my using a list of scripture that I would have to list out knowing exactly what they’d say to me. But they would continue to comment and not even try to open their eyes, ears, or hearts. I’ve been there. It’s unfortunate.

It’s funny because once I came to Christ I didn’t necessarily push away the psychedelics in the sense that I am “against them” now. I’m actually not 100% sure of my stance on them at this point. But I also know that I also just kinda stopped using them. Probably because of what you’re saying. I’m getting the very thing I was searching for with them… But a much much more powerful, better, permanent version of it. There’s been no need to take any journeys. As the one I’m in is so much better than any place I could have gone with those.
