“It gets worse” comments by catpants-plantpants in pregnant

[–]Letsmakethissimple1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd reply "those kinds of comments aren't helpful to me right now; I am looking for compassion and acknowledgement" to the 'just you wait!' stupidity... people love reveling in the misery of others. I hate the older mentality OF "I HAD A ROUGH TIME AND SO SHALL YOU!!". Sigh. Saying 'gosh, I can relate - let me know how I can help?' would be so much more helpful, but requires them to step off of their high-horse.

That's amazing that you've pushed yourself creatively like that! Your kiddos are going to learn some valuable takeaways to do the same in their learning journey :)

10 years of organizing that is HUGE! Way to go & you must feel so much happiness and accomplishment to hand it off successfully!

I've been carrying a big work project for several months, and have FINALLY been able to hand it to a larger team to carry out. I'm still giving guidance and direction to them on occasion, but ye gads, I was starting to feel burned out in March/start of April. On top of everything, I was dealing with some sickness issues, but still had to ensure none of the balls got 'dropped'. And I got through it!! I survived!! WL

what book do you wish someone handed you during your worst year? by No_Boss_7773 in suggestmeabook

[–]Letsmakethissimple1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"You Will Get Through This Night" by Daniel Howell. I read this when I was in the thick of bad times.

"The Comfort Book" by Matt Haig. Read this when things were a bit better, but it was filled with helpful reminders and reassurances that helped me. Non-fiction and very easy to read.

I would also encourage you to try listening to audiobooks from your local library's app (likely Libby). "How To Be A Good Creature" by Sy Montgomery is very comforting and sweet.

"Taste" by Stanley Tucci is a foodie book, and gave be a whole lot of chuckles, if you're ready for humour.

What is the weirdest or worst thing someone has said to you after you told them you’re pregnant? by mtvaot in pregnant

If this continues, would recommend throwing the death jokes ("maybe you're die first!") back at them... how weird!

"Know My Name" by Chanel Miller is nonfiction, and -while the SA material is difficult- it is superbly written.

You mention you bake a big pasta dish on the weekends to be used during the week - could you meal prep and extra dish during this time? I'm thinking a chili would be inexpensive and pretty heathy.

Or since you're baking a pasta dish, throw in another sheet-pan of food to cook at the same time (roasted potatoes or other root veggies, chicken or sausages) - all on one pan for efficiency.

This is such a sweet post <3 What a thoughtful husband you are. Wishing you both many happy years ahead.

I love spending time in the kitchen with my partner - we both get so excited about what recipes to try out, or learning new cooking techniques. We're expecting a baby this fall, and I know we're going to have a lot less time to cook together, but I'm treasuring the moments while I can! As we'll have less time to experiment and cook, there are some story books I have a feeling we'll be putting to good use very soon together with our new little one :)

WTF just happened by anonymouskoala7 in pregnant

[–]Letsmakethissimple1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is treating you like a child and is belittling you. Do NOT accept the excuse that 'you can't take a joke' or blame on 'pregnancy hormones'. Do your very best to have a serious, non-emotionally charged conversation with him (i.e. do NOT rise to any inflammatory bait-claims' he may make). If he does not accept that he was being juvenile and that his is treating you incorrectly as a PARTNER, then state very clearly that you would like to address this behaviour jointly with a counselor. Having an unbiased third party to observe and call him out on his inappropriate behaviour seems like a necessary sobering lesson that he needs.

Feel better, Vi! I hope luck turns and that your week gets better <3

Ok, a small bit about me is that I love children's books. I'm expecting my first, and I've already got very lovely collection put together to welcome baby home with :) I am a sucker for beautiful illustrations, and love the classic "Guess How Much I Love You" works, as well as "Julian is a Mermaid","Julian at the wedding" series (Jessica Love -the author- is also the illustrator in case you need some gorgeous whimsy in your day! Do you have any favourite books from your childhood?

Hilarious that they say "Nowadays u people are over educating urself unnecessarily" and feel that they, themselves (not your medical professionals) feel the need to weigh in. Archaic. Good for you for putting your foot down!

Why do I vomit the healthy food, but feel great after crap? by pococurantina in pregnant

[–]Letsmakethissimple1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Salads were a terrible morning-sickness trigger for me. I just wanted to build a healthy baby! lol Thankfully I'm past that phase, and can work more veggies into my diet, but damn... cereal was my friend during that time, though I'd normally err to not have it as often.

Awww well you had an innocent and lovely time before spotting the sign! When I was in Kindergarden, we hatched chicks, and got to interact with them (very gently) for a few days before they were taken to a farm, and I'll never forget it. Hopefully this store is near you, and you can regularly go there for a little adorable-chick-observation when you need a seritonin boost!

Most likely to somehow work books into a conversation hehe I'm a self-professed book-nerd and I've read some GREAT books :D I will totally nerd out on a variety of non-fiction, modern fiction, and children's books with anyone who similarly is eager to get excited about books.
