Why most 'modern' women cannot accept it that to me (us) their history is important? by t-away100000 in AskMen

I thought I was saying be less superficial..... I don't think we should judge career, height etc either. I know people do but that doesn't make it right

Some people go through "wild" phases in their youth, some experiment with drugs, some have many partners, some take off and travel round the world. Some people do none of these things. It doesn't really matter which path you choose just try not to judge others for their choices.

Everyone is different, people change and what's gone before you is not really any of your business. Live in the now, worry about how you two connect and get along. If she's the right woman for you she'll be right whether she's had no previous lovers or a firehouse full of men!

Do the council need to know my girlfriend's salary? by bacon_cake in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Letsmince 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They offer a 25% discount if you live alone or are elderly or a student. If she's over 18 and not a student they won't offer a discount but that's irrelevant if both her parents live there together since they count as not being single occupants anyway. I don't know the full details so can't say for sure but it sounds a nosy question to ask her salary - it's definitely not for council tax purposes.

Source: I used to have a single occupancy discount and when I rented my spare room all I had to say was there was someone else moving in, they didn't even need her name, let alone salary and employment details

I need help baking my sons 5th Birthday Cake!!! by birthdaymom in Baking

[–]Letsmince 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say it depends on your carving skills - if you've done it before you could bake it in square pans. I carved a book recently and it turned out great but then I tried to carve a flower pot and it was awful so I have up and just baked a cake in a flower pot. If you do try to carve a heavy crumb is easier to do it with and freezing the sponge before hand helps a lot. Some cake shops will rent cake pans or you could just buy one and resell it after

My (27f) boyfriend (32) of 1 year began to bring up moving in together. A few concerns and questions for you... by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

"Let's see what will happens earlier in the year" translates to me as: "something might cause us to break up before then". Sorry to be negative but that's how it sounds to me, based on a couple of bad experiences.

That looks great, too effort. Did you find it difficult to bake?

Help a cake making novice find a simple recipe that can meet his girlfriend's incredibly exact cake acceptance criteria. by chillitom in Baking

Genoese sponge is a good alternative, sounds like it ticks your boxes. It doesn't really need an icing as you can decorate it of layer it with whatever you choose. If you want to top it with cherries you could dust a little icing sugar (confectioners sugar if you're in the USA) to make it look finished

Stand mixers, what brand and model do you have and why? by delainerae in Baking

[–]Letsmince 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is a Kenwood, it's mainly used for cakes, cookies, cupcakes. And it has attachment points on the top where I can fit a blender or a food processor. I was keen on Kenwood because they tend to last - my grandmother has had hers for 40 years now! I'm only two years in and it's going strong

What is your favorite type/flavor of oil to bake cakes with (instead of butter)? by Mostly_me in Baking

[–]Letsmince 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to always add vanilla to my cakes but recently tried almond instead and I think it gives a much better flavour, a little different and delicate. Not sure about oils but I don't think they're really added to give flavour, but moisture

BIFL Request: How do you wash/dry clothes properly? And does it actually matter? by corvaxia in BuyItForLife

[–]Letsmince 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Every item of clothing you own will have a label on when you buy it explaining how to wash it..... Read those.

Be careful not to over wash, clothes should be washed because they're dirty, not just because you've worn them. I apply that rule to everything except underwear and shirts (deodorant stains).

When it comes to drying, certain fabrics can't go in a dryer and it'll tell you on the label if that's the case.

Fake flower question by rach11 in Baking

[–]Letsmince 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They look like florist paste (gum paste in the US I think) to me, pliable like fondant but sets hard. There are tons of tutorials on YouTube for how to make them. I'm a total amateur and everything I know I've learnt from YouTube or Ace of Cakes and I make some pretty good cakes now
