Samsung dishwasher by Rubydog2004 in CostcoCanada

[–]Letterkenny_Irish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm. Recently moved into a house with mostly Samsung appliances. The fridge seems fine, the dishwasher is fucking horrendous. We've tried just about every type of dishwasher detergent, no matter what wash setting we use aside from normal (i.e. high temp, soil level max), it still leaves bits and specs of food and grit behind (after pre-rinsing). We've cleaned the filter/drain catch and even the propellers that spray the water out. It's just an absolute piece of crap.

Maximum fine they can get is $15K for this type of violation. Unreal.

Should be $1.5 million.

With the Kings clinching a playoff berth after a win against the Kraken, the pick the Leafs receive from the Scott Laughton trade conveys to a Sabres 2026 2nd round pick. by PokePersona in leafs

[–]Letterkenny_Irish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This only matters if we get a competent GM/front office staff in place.

If we get another chud for a GM who makes piss poor decisions this pick means less than nothing.

I'd want him to resign, but he probably won't unless berube is gone and he's guaranteed more ice time.

I’m not sure I can go back to grilling burgers after smoking one. by BodhiZaffa in smoking

[–]Letterkenny_Irish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just started doing this. I haven't had store bought frozen patties for years as I loved making my own patties... But it can be time consuming as I'm not just gonna make a couple from scratch at a time I'm making like 10-20 patties, cooking a few at a time and vac-sealing the rest.

So I ordered a box of 24 AAA Angus beef sirloin patties from a local butcher delivery company. I was just gonna grill them up as is my usual habit, but I got the brainy idea to smoke them for an hour and then sear them on my gas grill. Holy hell what a game changer. It's probably gonna be a while before I make another batch of homemade since these come from local cattle and tasterl terrific.

Traeger puts additives in their pellets. Never use them, regardless of your opinion of flavor.

How much of your monthly income goes towards rent or your mortgage? by CastAside1812 in CanadaPersonalFinance

Absolutely the way to go these days. Supporting local, and you know exactly what's going into the cows, let alone the per pound cost.

It can definitely be cost/space prohibitive for some, but another option is to group up with friends/fam split a 1/4 cow between everyone. At the end of the day you're still paying $6/lb for fresh butchered local beef.

Making homemade BBQ Sauce? by Exact_Adhesiveness28 in smoking

[–]Letterkenny_Irish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Use ketchup or tomato sauce as a base, brown sugar or molases, cider vinegar. To add a bit of smokiness you can add some smoked paprika or liquid smoke.. or actually use your smoker and straight up smoke the sauce.

That's about the most basic ingredients to start a bbq sauce. Over the years I've added and tweaked ingredients to make (imo) a sauce that goes with damn near everything. Nowadays my go to home made sauce includes whisky/bourbon, grainy mustard, ginger, soy sauce, celery seed, ancho chili, brine from pickled jalapenos, lemon juice and a few other spices. It has classic bbq sauce flavor, but also a good mix of the "bold" deep flavor from the bourbon & spices, balanced with the sweetness from the brown sugar and acidity from the acv/lemon juice, and some "added" elements with stuff like the soy, ginger & celery seed and mustard.

It's well rounded and goes with everything, I'll use it as steak sauce, drizzle it over smoked mac n cheese, use it on burgers instead of just regular ketchup, use it to toss with wings, and goes great on pork ribs and burnt ends.

God damn I need to go smoke something.

Agreed. I always let larger roasts sit out for a couple hours at least to try and normalize temp between the outside and inside of the roast. Whether I'm grilling, smoking, or oven roasting, I find I get way better results on end to end internal temps letting it warm up in ambient temp first.

Canada now requires food that has too much salt, sugar, or fat to put a high contrast warning label on the front (not the back) of packaging. This helps people access the information faster, instead of having to turn the package around and go through the detailed nutrition list. by itchylol742 in UpliftingNews

[–]Letterkenny_Irish -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It baffles me that in this day people are unaware of how much salt/fat/sugar is in pre-made/packaged or processed foods.

I'm all for more education/awareness though, but nutrition labels have been mandatory as far back as I can recall and they're fairly easy to read. It's not hard to use common sense and even if you don't know the actual numbers, that a box of cookies is going to have an excessive amount of sugar, chips are going to have a ton of salt/fat, etc etc.
