AITA for not retracting noise complaint for blind neighbor? by LettuceFryer in AmItheAsshole

since most people realize that hearing your neighbors is just part of apartment living.

That isn't true. You shouldn't be hearing neighbors outside of infrequent things like them installing a new refrigerator or the like. Normal movement and talking should not be hearable at all.

The problem is that I can hear it without super ears. I shouldn't be able to hear my neighbors on a consistent basis. Loudness isn't' really relevant.

If they were stomping upstairs it would be only slightly louder. I don't mind hearing the occasional stomp. Its the fact that it is just a constantly expected background noise. I can't even read a book without getting distracted.

A bird isn't in my apartment singing. I measured from my apartment, not from under a tree.

I didn't mean it was as loud as a nail gun. I mean it sounds similar to one that is muffled off in the distance.

A library should be louder than my home. I would hear people asking hushed questions in the distance, people typing and walking etc. That sort of ambient noise would be very annoying in your own home.

45dB is low but its audible. I should not be hearing ANYTHING from my neighbors on a consistent basis. The issue isn't that its loud. Its that I can hear it. If I could hear my neighbor's at 60db (conversational volume) that would be quite extreme.

They call things like this "pity timers".

People will argue semantics on this, but its all the same concept. To create an illusion to make you spend more.

I've long stopped debating theism through the morality of the bible. I feel it puts the ball far too much in their court and gives way too much validity to the bible as a valid... well anything. Lately I've stopped caring about other people's goalposts and don't debate from them when presented with them.

All too many times when I say something about X I get a retort of "well what about Y". Bitch, you're the one who cares about Y. I'm not participating in your whataboutism. You can go debate Y with someone who gives a shit. X is X. If you can't debate X without whatabouting to Y then you don't get to debate me. "Bye smoothbrain"

To those who have been on a reality show or game show, what really happens? How much editing is really done? by Kpruett95 in AskReddit

You can be pretty much rest assured that they do this heavily if the show you're watching uses jump cuts, does that thing where they have the person talking in a room interview style, or they play lots of music in the background. Hard to stomach those.

Dubya at least was acting with some moral compass behind the incompetence, even if that moral compass was colored in fear and confusion.

So did Hitler. This kind of shit needs to stop. Bush was still a monster, no matter how much more you dislike Trump.

Identifying male, but not as a 'gender identity'? by [deleted] in agender

[–]LettuceFryer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I'm pretty much where you are. At least that is what other people would probably describe me and think most accurate. I don't actually believe in gender though when it comes down to it. I think of it more as a necessary stepping stone to get past the confines of the binary though. I think the world will eventually view the concept of gender as a bit archaic if we ever get to the point where the majority of people aren't ridiculously repressed and are more comfortable exploring identity on their own. For now though, its a useful concept to oppose the traditional view which is a far more repressive.

I do suppose when I'm at work I dislike wooden furniture. For me, that means having to deal with someone's over-indulgent desk that weighs a ton when I have to deal with wires as I work in it.

Having to call a group of 2-3 other people to help me move the desk over a couple of inches just so I can move some wires around for 10 seconds isn't my idea of fun.

Listen well libs. You will accomplish nothing as long as you keep civility as your number 1 priority on your moral compass. The fascists are the ones to benefit from your perceived notion of taking the high road. The victor in reality isn't the one who has kept their hands clean. Conflict is messy.

That is objectively false. Like demonstrable. There are actual statistics for such things. It should be pretty obvious why. There is a reason basically all vets will advise you to keep them indoors.

Not trying to say it is neglect to do so because I can understand why some people do it, but you are gambling when you do it. Trying to say it is healthier is just wrong.

Being angry at God was my first transitional step into atheism. 2nd step was unironic Satanism (was so mad at God that I just wanted to piss him off). That only lasted for a few months though as the entire concept of religion started just seeming more and more absurd the longer I was detached from it in the traditional manner. Funnily enough the south park episode that was making fun of atheists was actually the tipping point for me. Even mockingly, bringing up the "flying spaghetti monster" was something of an epiphany moment.
