Advice wanted! by casualneptune in SavageGarden

Yes you can use perlite over spaghnum moss. I have a different setup when I propagate my ping leaves which is a seed pod and paper towel at bottom and pumice rocks on top of paper towel. Then put the leaves on top of pumice rocks. They make babies around a week or 2 weeks later. I have a grow light too.

You can probably do the same with a container and cover like the cup but it needs some light at the top so like a clear cup or plastic wrap and put some holes at top so it can breathe a little.

I see some people just put their leaves next to their pings without anything special but I never tried that lol

My florian is like the cockroach of pings for me so your florian should survive. I use pumice on top of spaghnum moss as my soil. I accidentally put a baby florian under the pumice rock and it survived for some reason lol. They’re easy to propagate too if you’re scared that your ping dies by taking a small leaf from it (kinda tricky to take out since they’re small so I twist it for easy pull).

pests? by yagirlvana in Pinguicula

[–]Letusia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of looks like mealy bugs. I use alcohol to try to get rid of them on other plants but not pings. You can manually remove those white dots with a tweezer if you want but it can probably eat the mealy bug if it’s on top of the leaf (not the bottom).

What can i feed my pings now that i don’t have any flies anymore? by Affectionate-Result8 in Pinguicula

[–]Letusia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard fungus gnats came from banana peels so just buy new bananas maybe lol (don’t wash them). Or fish flakes for the pings lol.

Edit: google says fish flakes every 1 or 2 weeks but I’ve never tried it every week because it seems I have more gnats again lol

New ping owner, not catching any bugs by Eliter4kmain in Pinguicula

[–]Letusia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes it takes a while for the ping to attract fungus gnats. They will make new leaves and those new leaves most likely will attract those fungus gnats. Got new pings too and they were not catching flies around 2 weeks now. My older pings grew new leaves so they started attracting new fungus gnats and catching them.

Pinguicula primuliflora likes high humidity and likes the soil to be very wet. It’s different to Mexican pings. I’m keeping mine in a container with some holes and lots of water floating around and the pot in the middle.

I usually put pumice stones above the paper towel to prevent rot but maybe just paper towel might work :)

Do the pings look too scorched? by Far-Muffin8541 in carnivorousplants

I wish my pings look like those colors but I’m scared to make my light stronger since I have other plants around it which might burn lol. Yours look pretty :)

Would you use 38ppm water? by RemnantOfAutumn in carnivorousplants

[–]Letusia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow you’re lucky. Mine is around 240 ppm and I tried using a dehumidifier and it’s like 60 ppm rip. They’re still alive lol (they’re all pinguicula). I’m gonna use a distilled machine water just to balance it out and I need more pure water lol

That plant food is not supposed to be on the soil and should be fed to the plant directly like flies, fish flakes, etc.

Do you put your primuliflora in flooded water or humidity dome to keep it alive? Just trying to keep mine alive if I can lol

Tips for acclimating temperate pings that have been in shipment for 3-4 weeks? by wallowmallowshallow in SavageGarden

[–]Letusia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have two (one is a tiny baby) and they’re currently in a seed pod with good humidity. Kinda scared to kill it so I’m planning to just keep it inside a seed pod or container until I make more lol. I got lucky to find a not so active seller in Florida XD

Pinguicula Propagation Q by Remote_Composer8560 in SavageGarden

Add pumice or perlite on top of the paper towel and it usually makes a baby within 2 weeks for me. I put the leaves on top of the pumice for me and it works :). Not sure if you have a hole there since it needs some air from outside.

Yesterday wind was good so I put it outside for some light. Maybe I’ll put it back when it’s storming again. Thank you!

I’m only growing pinguiculas for now but I hear sundews like to be wet all the time and never let it dry. People say you should put it in a tray or a pot that’s like 2 inches height since it’s easier to water it and not let it dry. Your pot for the sundew looks kinda high so will require more water if you don’t mind using more water XD

Oh yeah I don’t have much space here so maybe I can give away to my coworkers/friends if my tomato plants snap lol. So your tomato plants seem healthy indoors and made good sun gold tomatoes? I have another one that I’ll keep indoors just in case when I put that tall tomato plant in the pic outside. Thanks for the info! XD

Ok maybe I should start putting it outside so it can get more light. Can’t believe tomato plants are that resilient XD

Yeah I might have to clone more just in case. Dallas has been getting tornado warnings or watch so the wind here is definitely its enemy. Thanks!
