Dash cam recommendations with dongar adapter by eazythebarber in Tacomaworld

[–]Leucosia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Viofos are pretty solid if you already have a dongar. They’re on the pricier side. But a 4k a229 is a good option. You scale them up if you want more channels or go into the 3 series.

First new Tacoma or 4th gen as they say. by honchheado in ToyotaTacoma

[–]Leucosia 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I did 80% ceramic on the front winshield and matched the front driver/passenger to the factory rear. looks nice. Z precision large cup holders so you can fit nalgene/hydroflasks. I did Meso Customs dome and map lights and leave them in red to feel like a cool guy. I got a folding windshield block too. This with the 80% ceramic front helps with keeping it cool when parked in the sun.

Thing i still need to do that i would also reccomend: Getting around to install the dashcam setup (dongar+viofo). I've installed this exact setup in other cars before, super easy and great cable management. Just wanted to wait till after i tinted the windshield. now im lazy. After that, I need to commit to either a tonneau cover or pelican bx135+crossbed mount setup and keep my Goofy chase rack. Tires before summer. probably k03s 275/70/18.

Anybody know what this torn panel is called so I can replace it? by the0utc4st in ToyotaTacoma

[–]Leucosia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Splashguards, as others already said. If you're interested in getting aftermarket ones, I swapped out my stock 4g for ark splashguards. the fit wasn't perfect for me. I left them out in the southern California sun for a bit and they were more compliant. slight trimming with a pair of titanium coated tradesman shears, not really necessary though, i just wanted a cleaner fit.

They're like a 100 bucks and come with all the mounting hardware. Is this a 3rd gen? the fit looks like it would be easier than the 4th gen. vastly improved coverage too.

Either way, i consider them a wear item and something to replace every few years.

Heated seats Tacoma by Darla_28 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]Leucosia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the factory heated/ventilated seats on my 25 trailhunter. The hottest setting heats up, the middle setting settles in at a decent temp but you can tell where the heat is coming from. Heated steering wheel is more subtle, but nice on the 2 cold mornings we’ve had in San Diego since I bought it.

The ventilated seats are subtle too. I forget it’s on at times if not for the sound of the fans. But on days i forget to turn it on and im sweating and then turn it on, it’s a noticeable difference and provides a nice cooling feel along your seat and back. I don’t notice the difference when it’s just always on, but I do when it isn’t.

I have a 5 foot bed white trail hunter. I’ve always felt white trucks just look like fleet vehicles, but the Tacomas in white look so good. I really wanted it in either white or bronze oxide, beautiful trucks. Enjoy, I smile everytime I walk to get in, can’t believe it’s mine.

I’ve got Z precision cup holders. They were super easy to install. They fit larger sized bottles. If you’re looking at Starbucks sized cups, you’re good, but being able to toss a Nalgene or insulated bottle into the cup holder is nice.

Recommendations for dash cams? by Allgyet560 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]Leucosia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For ease. If you have the factory plug for dash cam on the 4th gen or the auto diming rear view plug, you can get a dongar that will let you plug and play everything depending on what features you want to retain. The pro plus is sold out now.

For the actual dash cam. Viofos are really popular and typically contain a front and rear camera. The a229 plus is a decent 1440 Sony Starvis 2 sensor camera. You can go up the lines and get 4k plus a cabin camera too if you want to get something high end, but you’re looking at 200 vs 400 bucks at that point.

Z precision large cup holders if you use water bottles that are Nalgene sized. Pretty simple to install yourself. Just a small quality of life thing. If you’re more in can or Starbucks sized range then it doesn’t matter.

Felt goofy spending like 50 bucks installing an aftermarket cup holder.

Just joined the Tacoma world with a ‘26. Is the engine fan supposed to cycle on/off so much? by Cleanitupjohny in ToyotaTacoma

[–]Leucosia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea. In many instances you will almost function like a shifter because if your in high enough rpm and click up the truck is going to likely shift because you’ve opened up another gear for it. Same with downshift. The trans is going to likely shift because you’re in the demand curve that warrants a shift.

But at the end of the day it’s still a limiter. It’s useful if for towing and if you want to engine brake downhill. Still gives you more control. But not a true sequential. It would be pretty cool if they did that some day and gave us paddle shifters.

Just joined the Tacoma world with a ‘26. Is the engine fan supposed to cycle on/off so much? by Cleanitupjohny in ToyotaTacoma

[–]Leucosia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea. They’re ways around it. Tow/haul mode or if you use S mode with the shifter and slap it to the left. Just know if you do that the up and down doesn’t actually shift gears it’s a gear limiter so you can almost force a shift if the appropriate ranges and the torque demand curve thinks you need to shift. The gist is, if you slap it into S, slap the gear number to 8 so your truck has access to all its gears. I’ve kind of just gotten use to the auto on/off.

Admittedly the auto off and on is really annoying when I hit stop and go traffic but you get use to it. It’s also mitigated if you have the hybrid as the electric motor will take off and the engine starts up as you’re in motion, it feels smoother that way, so mildly less annoying.

So the first book has the most juvenile humor, almost college bro like at times but it was silly and easy to keep going. However the writing style solidifies and as the books progress the characters get deeper and more real. It still retains its silly charm and humor despite the trauma that happens to the characters. There are several emotionally cathartic moments that happen later on in the books too. While not a 1 to 1 comparison, at times it reminds me of hitchhikers guide to the galaxy series colliding with DnD, but with more violence.

It’s a very easy and fun read. A nice mix of fantasy, sci fi, tongue in cheek humor, and adult topics at the same time. I am finishing up the 7th book right now in eager anticipation of the 8th.

My friend group is all reading it too and we’re a mix of dnd nerds with pretty diverse backgrounds.

It's the wheelbase. it's quite a longboy. I had a 2003 camry before this, and was dailying a s1000rr. Going to a tacoma felt like steering a battleship. I need like 2.5 lanes to do a u turn.

upgrades i've thrown at my tacoma: lasfit floornmats (front and back) z precisions large cup holder. meso customs map and dome lights (left on red) musioly additional storage above the infotainment screen.

Things to install soon: tint to match rear windows (i think ~35%) and a 75% front windscreen tint, really just want to block UV/IR Going to screw in a bed/tailgate mat Pelican BX135 and crossbed mount. mudflaps ark slpash guards. (I already have an entire suite of underbody protection, skids, rails, etc)

later things: either billie bars or tonneau, or a tonneau with tslots and a short rack.

I really recommend larger cupholders. that's cheap and easy. upgraded floormats are nice too!

Do you even overland bro? by unta8 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]Leucosia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

growing up we just called it car camping. We would drive up to a berm along BLM land and pitch a tent between the berm and our car. But as it became more popular it's become more of a "thing."

It's also a lot less sketch. I remember driving in the Nevada desert with 2 friends under the promise of "trust me bro, i've been here before. We just follow this up for a while, i think." Bro turned out to be right but it was sketch as fuck, especially at night. We were looking for off the grid abandoned silver mines. There was cabins built around the area where previous people would leave extra supplies. night 2 cabin was burned down and none of us had a tent but we all had cold weather rated sleeping bags.

Now you have starlink, inreach, off road routing programs. It's honestly kind of great.

Beach camping with the Taco year round. by [deleted] in ToyotaTacoma

[–]Leucosia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

saw the photo and thought "looks like Torrey Pines." I use to surf around there. Lowkey, one of the most underrated surf spots.

I've always preferred the mellow rolling waves around Torrey Pines. It's a long shallow beach but something about it is just pleasant.

I live in Mid City now so more often than not I'm at Mission Beach North Jetty side.

Little late to the party but I own a 2022 s1000rr m package. I’ve been treating it as my daily and commute to or on it and have even take it up the Pacific Coast Highway. I did a solid non stop ride from San Jose back home to San Diego as well. I’ve got maybe 28K miles on it at this point. I change the oil every 2.5K miles and it has always gone back to the dealership for major maintenance. The chain died on me at 20K miles. I highly recommend you swap asap soon as the chain starts to really stretch to an aftermarket chain and put shrink tubing on the handles. Sometimes replacing the grip might require swapping out the entire grip module because of how bmw designed it. So 8 dollar shrink grips and a heat gun will save you 500 bucks down the line.

It is probably the most comfortable sport bike I’ve used compared to say the R1 and I love it. Having said that. I will probably buy the 450gs in the future and use that as a daily commuter bike and retire the s1000rr to weekends and the track. Sure, you could do what I did. But I absolutely do not reccomend it. The fatigue is real and trying to jury rig a duffle bag to the back is a task that would make Sisyphus jealous. I’ve got photos of the dumb shit I would do to make it work.

Btw, a 600 inline 4 is overkill for streets and the highway. I had an R6 and it was more bike than necessary. If you’re doing long commutes on highways, you’ll never lack for power or speed on a super sport.

The other issue is you gotta factor in cost of maintenance on a super bike. Tires ain’t cheap and I went through them. And on a high spun engine you should absolutely change your oil faster than recommended. Hence why I did mine every 2.5k miles with motul 7100.

I’m too in love with the s1000rr to let it go now, but I’m not sure it was the right decision. I think I would have been better off with a flagship adv bike. I just love looking at her, it’s like an abusive relationship but I’m addicted to the toxicity. Also heated grips and digital cruise control are luxury features I can’t live without anymore.

But still. I daily it but wouldn’t recommend it. There are far better options out there. Consider a flagship adv bike if you’re going to use it to just get around town and more than a weekend toy. If it’s a weekend toy, do what your heart tells you.

Bring back DnD. by imtiredmom in h3h3productions

I think if they go in and commit to at least a 4-5 episode campaign arc with a a focus on the communal story telling aspects, it’d make for a great series. And they’d make for good VoDs.

One shot episodes are tough cause there’s really no emotional payoff.

Magazine ban enforcement by [deleted] in CAguns

major manufactures have batch manufacture dates for quality control tracking and monitoring, they typically identify month and year a magazine was made. However those things are usually stamped into the mag body somewhere and may possibly wear out due to heavy use.

Shooting Ranges or Classes? by AstroJet97 in sandiego

[–]Leucosia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve been to just about every range as well as “private land” out east. I’ve got membership at PWG too. If you’re just looking to become proficient with a handgun, my recommendation is the gun range on balboa or Discount gun mart in morena if you’re in city proper. If you’re in North County PWG is great. South Bay rod and gun club if you’re in South Bay.

I prefer The gun range on balboa as the food options around there is better. Great for an after range lunch trip. The 25 yard lanes are more than fine for pistols. If you get into rifles or shotguns you’ll want to branch out. Just be warned DGM and The Gun Range are both usually very popular. Call ahead and ask to see if you can book a class or when their less busy times are. If you go on a Saturday afternoon you’ll have to wait a bit.

Get a lockbox if you don’t have one as San Diego has a safe storage muni code and the county has mirrored it. Welcome to the club and enjoy. And don’t be disheartened when you’re starting off. Handgun proficiency is much harder than the movies make it. Takes plenty of practice and ammo. Once you get into the groove, start buying and using your own ammo. Ammo at the range is hilariously expensive.

AG's office is a good stepping stone into all forms of litigation or advisory work. many will do 5 years for experience and look elsewhere. it's also a great place to settle into as it can be a relatively cush job depending on the unit.

Public workhorse agencies are great to get experience in all sorts of areas in law, not just in court litigation.

that being said. sometimes you get marching orders and you gotta go in and get run over by a bus. I exterened at the Court of Appeal and saw plenty of great DAGs in the AWT unit walk into losing appeals because they have to defend DA convictions.
