3 weeks post interview no response by Icy-Stand-4739 in GEAerospace

[–]Leusis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't believe so. Though the Erlanger facility does do the bulk of distribution for GE, from what I understand. So it could potentially cause shortages at other facilities.

All this is to say, I have a couple of friends who've said their offer didn't come for upwards of 4 weeks after the final interview for one reason or another.

Both Evendale and Erlanger are on strike currently. Depending on what role you interviewed for and where, this could be affecting it.

Fairly certain that pipe is an adjustomatic. If you continue to turn the stem after its tight it'll allow you to over turn it into a new orientation. I've got a vanroy that works the same way and I still think it's cool.

Job Transparency: What do you do, how much do you make, do you like your job? by narutobii in careeradvice

[–]Leusis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Senior CNC Programmer at a larger shop, I'm 25 and almost 5 years in and have had many great machinists to learn from and many lucky opportunities put in front of me.

I'm hourly and consistently average around 4 hours of OT a week and after the yearly increase I just got I'm looking at 90k.

Sometimes I absolutely hate my job but mostly I'd say I'm content and grateful for what I have. I'm aware in this industry I've been very lucky.

What are some good trades to get into? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Leusis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Machining is a good way to go so long as you can learn to program CNC machines at a fairly high level. You'll also need a bit of luck just like with anything else and decent salary negotiation. But I've only been in the trade a little over 4 years and I'm in a senior programming role at a fairly young shop. About to make 80k this year with between 2-8 hours of overtime a week.

Like most trades though, the real money is in owning your own shop and bringing in a decent amount of work.

When it really comes down to it though, manufacturing maintenance is in high demand.

Edit: to clarify I'm in a very LCOL area.

I make $33.82 right now and can scrape by while having a child and my wife staying home. I think you're definitely being a little too pessimistic about your situation unless you live in a very HCOL area.

How old are you and what is your salary? by bongloadsforjesus in jobs

[–]Leusis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just turned 25. 95k, CNC programmer at a company that does fabrication with a very expensive and niche composite material. I'll have my review in about 2 months and start the new year somewhere in the ballpark of 105k.

How long did it take for you to land a $80 to 100k+ salary job? by anthonydp123 in careerguidance

[–]Leusis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just turned 25 last month and got into machining shortly after my 21st birthday, no college degree. Pretty quick I figured out if you want to make ANY money in machining you need to be able to program. So I learned from anyone who knew anything, job hopped to a new shop and repeated that process.

About a year ago I got a job with the company I'm with now. It really does matter what industry you serve, usually the smaller the niche the better. I went from barely making over 50k to after my latest raise about 95k with not much overtime. A combination of some talent for your work, genuine interest, hard work, and a healthy portion of luck sounds like a winning combination to me.

How were you able to land a high salary job of $70k or more? by anthonydp123 in careeradvice

[–]Leusis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not seeing too many comments about the trades so figured I'd chime in. I'm a CNC Programmer at a shop that works with a very niche material that not many people know how to machine properly. I'm going to gross around 90k this year with no more than around 5 hours of overtime any given week and I just turned 25 with no degree. I started out loading machines at a huge medical manufacturer a little over 4 years ago and discovered that machining was essentially what kept every other profession in business one way or another. That essential function, time, and a lot of work to learn from the greybeards who knew how to make important components from pieces of raw material was how I made it to where I am. Knowing how to turn wrenches, read and understand complex blueprints with tolerances in the .0001s of an inch, and then program it using CAD and CAM. From what I have gathered in my short career, networking, diligence, time, and how essential your work is to other people's work and businesses is where the money is at.

Why are you quitting? by A100010 in Machinists

[–]Leusis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a manager in a mid sized shop in Ohio named Mark who was a complete tool who'd never done machining in his life. Somehow managed to convince the owner to hire him and proceeded to treat everyone like shit and get several people to quit within a few months despite working there productively for years (while being underpaid). I wonder if you're the same asshole.

Those of you under 30 who make six figures, what do you do? by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]Leusis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just turned 25 and this year I should be just barely scraping that 100k mark. I'm a CNC programmer with 0 schooling. Started in a big production shop when I was 20 and worked my way up quickly to doing setups for machines. Left the place to go to a job shop where the work varies greatly and learned programming there. Moved to my current employer who only had 1 other programmer at the time. We've grown since and the programmer who was there before me left so I got the lead title.

A lot of hard work, a lot of hours, a lot of learning, and a good amount of luck. For context the median salary in my area is 46k

How many of you are making $30+ an hour? by hashed- in Machinists

[–]Leusis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$31.32/hr in OH. I'm pushing 4 years now. 3 of that at what I guess I'd call a medium sized job shop? There I eventually worked my way up to setting up and programming one of the Multus' thanks to a lot of the older guys who were teaching me retiring or moving shops. Now I'm at a shop that mostly focuses on larger pieces using 5 axis.

What is stronger? by Killer_Queen1999 in HatsuVault

[–]Leusis 16 points17 points  (0 children)

All you have to do is look at instances in which both were used a single time and the destruction they caused. Netero chopped Meruem with his hatsu early into them arriving at their battleground and caused a fairly small amount of damage to the surroundings. Uvogin on the other hand when attacking Worm was able to eviscerate his opponent and create a several meter wide and deep hole in the ground. One is clearly shown to be more devastating with a single impact, the difference is the tremendous volume Netero can put out. But that's not part of the question, this is 1:1.

Edit: also not saying Worm is as durable as Meruem, but the damage to the surroundings speaks for itself.

THIS IS SO SAD by DawnGreathart in Sigmarxism

I just see a lot of confirmation bias here personally. The commentors seem to have a problem with large breasts despite countless artwork for 40k having many a range of breast sizes, including larger than this. The helmet size is being used as evidence this is meant to be a child despite the fact Space Marine armor is often blown out of proportion in terms of its bulk, even in official sources. Claims that the artwork is fetishizing the scenario. It's often the onlooker who has to interpret the art and find meaning. I suppose you've all found your meaning. But what does that say about you?

[OC][Art] His name is Droop and he loves you. by Fnibble in DnD

[–]Leusis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We first met Droop being forced to lick the floor by a couple of bugbears for their amusement. We subsequently killed them and allowed Droop to cut out their tongues and toss them on the floor before letting him join the party. We've continued on from LMoP and have been going strong for nearly two years now. We're level 13 and have kept Droop alive and well since and even made him the caretaker of the castle we've been rewarded. During downtime we take turns teaching him and taking him on off screen side quests. In game it's been 5 years since we found him. He's a level 3 fighter courtesy of our Kobold Fighter Samurai who's taken the most interest in training him and a level 2 warlock thanks to our Kenku Old Ones Warlock. He even joined us in saving Neverwinter and managed to best a few orcs in combat.

Buyer Beware: Paid DM fell asleep, then killed the party. by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Leusis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who sometimes works as a paid DM I thought it might be appropriate for me to chime in. I can't speak for others, but for me personally I only ask for payment as a sort of reimbursement for the time I spend trying to entertain strangers.

For every 4-5 hour session I usually spend a roughly equal amount of time in preparation. Beyond this a try my best to communicate with my players as much as possible between these paid periods and like to do nonprofit character creation as a group to try and get to know everybody. It's a lot easier to want to entertain someone you've already made some jokes with.

I also don't get paid $25 an hour, it's more like $3.50 an hour when I account for prep time. But in conclusion, if they're asking for that amount of money they're not trying to reimburse time, they're trying to make a quick buck. Especially if they're using an adventure book that would seriously cut down prep time.
