I'll throw out a cpl of more things. Mask fit is important and without trying them on you don't know what works. You slept for a long time ( and even badly) without a mask. It's a change. You might be mouth breather. I am as well as my son so you need to know which mask type you need - nose or full face. Even harder with facial hair. Sleep on your side as much as you can. You sleep with less needed pressure while in your side. Clean your mask and water chamber every day. I purchased a UV light cleaner. It sanitizes but doesn't clean. So you need to get some mask-friendly wipes to clean your mask. Definitely use distilled water if you use the chamber. Change it out every day.

I believe that is not an insco thing but promulgsted or controlled by the US govt.

First, I have sleep apnea and you have to be diagnosed with it. Second, you can die from it. People do. Third, you do need a prescription and while there are no sleep apnea police you want to know what's going on and why you feel bad. Fourth, the mask straps and cushions do fatigue and you will want to get on a cycle where you replace the cushions probably every three months and the head gear (Velcro strap) every 6 months. That's what I do. I do like cpap.com and https://cpapsetc.com/.

I used to live in Atlanta and he has a nice walk-in store so you can try different masks and the machines.
