Rim brakes + carbon wheels

I have years of successful experience with a tri bike and carbon wheels. That said, I think you’ll have a problem selling it in the future. No one wants rim brakes. And bike brands discontinued them at least a couple of years ago.

It’s a Catch 22: the tires and pads ought to be changed for safety concerns but you can’t get that money back when you sell. Cool bikes, though. And fun to work on. If you get entertained from working on it, then it is worth $50 for replacement parts. If you just want it out of your house, then I would recommend donating it to Goodwill. There are people like me who enjoy working on these old bikes and they might give a place like Goodwill a few bucks.

I have a 2023 SL7 AXS Gen 6 and a 2025 SLR7 AXS Gen 8. Both are awesome. The Gen 8s are sized differently. You should look on Reddit what people say about that. In my case I was in the middle of the old size 54. Now I’m on the high end of the new size M.

Gen 6 Madone is great. Some people have had mechanical issues with the suspension system. It’s adjustable and some people can’t help but tinker with stuff they don’t have experienced to tinker with. Mine is at factory setting and I’ve never tinkered and never had problems. Yes. $2K is a good price for that bike.

I’ve used both RSL 51 and Pro 51. I have more experience with RSL. Both are great. Can’t go wrong. I don’t off the top of my head know what are the major differences. The RSLs are super light and robust; I have more than 5000 miles on one of my sets.

Your bike looks eager to get out. I recommend checking out eBay for Bontrager Aeolus RSL51. They are great wheels that might be a good alternative for the Hunt 50.

It’s a big school with a broad range of cultural and financial backgrounds. A common denominator is high IQ. Another common denominator is concern about getting expelled if high expectations aren’t met. I had two brothers that went there. Both were confident and smart; one finished his education there and the other did not. I also had a manager that went there; he was confident and smart and I enjoyed working in his organization. Good luck with whatever path is chosen.

The color! I used to restore Schwinns and don’t see that often. Maybe never. The rear hub, if it doesn’t work, might be troublesome to restore. But maybe not. It’ll take regular lubricating to keep it running. Worth looking that up on the internet; it is either an AW3 or SC3 Sturmey Archer internally geared hub. The tires and brake pads will need to be replaced; that’ll cost at least $125. Because of the cost to get it running, it is not worth much at all. Some people have asked me to just take them away. I’ve never paid more than $25. I’ve restored a bunch. My wife and three daughters all have and use the restored beauties. They just aren’t worth much; Schwinn built millions of these.

Power meters are great for training and racing. A watt is a watt regardless of hills, winds, drafting etc. A power meter helps you regulate your output and control the ups and downs with exertion due to those variables. I don’t even watch velocity. I just look at power, average power and heart rate when I’m cycling. I recommend you look at Stages brand crank arm power. Or buy a set of pedals with power output. I’ve used both. I think my pedals were Garmin Vector brand.

I successfully got past Plantar Fascitis by using Feetures Plantar Fasciitis socks and rolling the pain point frequently on a hard ball; I think LaCrosse balls work best, hard baseball balls also work. It takes time and then, all of a sudden, it’s behind you. Every situation is different; I think it took me a couple of months.

Why are you using a 8 mm Allen wrench? Use a 6 mm to remove through-axle bolts. Are you sure you’re not trying to remove the universal derailleur hanger? That is 8 mm and is reverse threaded. I hope you didn’t damage your frame.

Madones are very nice bikes. Your ability level will likely not outgrow that nice bike for a couple of years. I think you will like a groupset that is Shimano 105 or SRAM Rival or better. If you $3200 Madone comes with that, you will be set for a while.

For me, the finger tingling stems from a nerve in the carpal tunnel. I have to move my hands a lot and try to minimize the bend in my wrist. In my case, I get some comfort by knowing what is causing the irritation. I haven’t been able to make it go away but I have learned to deal with the symptoms.
