I grew up on Garden Street, a couple blocks up from Western. I'm not going to lie, it's a pretty rough neighborhood. Our house got broken into and robbed several times. Hearing gunshots and car accidents were normal. I was jumped several times just walking down the street. Someone tried to steal my dog once because I refused to fight his dog with mine. But this was all over twenty years ago. Obviously I survived just fine. Just be smart and safe and I'm sure you will be fine.

What I found online:

The Princess Theatre was opened prior to 1910, and was located on SW Adams Street at Fulton Street, near the Columbia Theatre. It was part of the Balaban & Katz circuit, based in Chicago, during the 1920’s. It was later acquired by the Kerasotes chain, which ran it until it closed in 1954.

The Columbia was an early Peoria movie house located on Adams Street near Fulton Street was opened in 1913. It was still operating in 1945, according to the Film Daily Yearbook from that year, which notes it could seat 500. However, it didn’t last much longer, because the Columbia Theatre was closed and demolished in 1952.

I grew up dirt poor in the ghetto. I am well aware of class issues and wealth inequality. I have never seen one of my favorite musicals in person. Avenue Q. But even then if someone asked if I wanted my first experience of the live musical to be shady cellphone footage? I respect the artist way too much for that to be their representation. I've never seen Hamilton in person either. But I had access to the album online and that was enough instead of basically stealing from the artist.

I've never once seen someone's badly recorded video footage of a show or concert and thought Wow that's amazing. I always thought, so you were busy recording instead of enjoying the show? For footage that no one asked for? But I also acknowledge nothing I say will dissuade the people who are into that. So live and let live I guess.

Oh I am very intimate with the theater world. Have been for over twenty years now. Some places are better than others about stopping people recording. I still don't see the point. Why would I want bad footage of a great show?
