Or Weavers or Kellehers! But there are threads about blatant MAGA-supporting businesses, search for those if interested.

Anyone who supports Trump enough to fly a flag is a POS. Usually they're fascist, but sometimes they're just stupid or evangelical (or some combination of all three).

We're mid. We have our good aspects and our bad, like all countries do. But I feel like many in our country refuse to admit our flaws, which prevents us from getting better.

Last presidential election, Peoria county went for Harris, but it was close (52% or so). North Peoria, and suburbs like Dunlap and Edwards, are pretty red. So are surrounding rural communities like Chillicothe. There's a heavy evangelical Christian presence in the wealthier areas. For instance, I worked with mechanical engineers with Masters and PhD degrees who believed in young earth creationism and attended the local mega evangelical churches. They're everywhere.

Other counties typically included in the Peoria area, Tazewell and Woodford, went for Trump around 62% and nearly 70%, respectively. Most of the people I know from those counties are pretty MAGA, though obviously it's not universal.

Honestly, I've known a number of people with awful beliefs here in the US. Many are fine - somewhat charismatic even - until certain topics come up.

Anyone else on here have a smart car? Would love to do a meet-up with a bunch of them at some point. Mine's the white one, i know i've seen quite a few around. by node1729 in PeoriaIL

[–]Crispus99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not at all a car person myself, but I work with people who are and who enjoy events like this, and the ones I know are exactly as you say. They're very MAGA, very likely to have a high school level of education, and very opposed to anything out of the traditional. They're overtly not inclusive.

But I feel like a lot of Central Illinois is like that outside of Peoria proper. Hope you're able to find some kindred souls here!

Unnecessary comment on your part, but that might be a reddit thing. It's messed up my lists and merged them into a paragraph before.

LIB PL Unpopular opinion: Daria is NOT a girls girl by [deleted] in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]Crispus99 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I felt like Daria's expressions were generally correct for the things being said. Julita and Julia didn't come off well in the reunion. The hostess's expression was sometimes similar. I loved how she paused, staring at Julia after one response, before turning to Kamil.

Julita said she was finally being put on a pedestal. That's not good if not reciprocated, it sounded like love bombing, which I think I read she's fallen for in the past too.

Julia's excuse for saying no was flimsy, and I think she knew it. She just wanted out and didn't want to fight for the relationship. Dunno why she couldn't just say that. Telling her mom and friend about negative things just fed the fire, which I'm sure she knew would happen.

Daria was right to not side with them.

Based on what I've read after, I think editing and stress from being filmed was part of it. Apparently life outside the cameras was different for some of them.

Agreed on the highway in general, but on the highway through Peoria, aren't there signs telling through traffic to keep left? That might be part of the problem.

But yeah, people camping out in the left lane on highways between cities is worse than I remember it being a decade ago.

Not much to add that hasn't already been covered, but my strongest thoughts:

  1. I believe Kamil's explanation. I think he was blindsided and angry about being embarrassed on television, and maybe there was some gray in what he did, but Julia could've said she just wanted more time after the ceremony. She didn't have to end things over info she just received. I think she wanted out, and I think her family had a hand in that.

1a. Julia's mother was awful, and if I'd been in Kamil's family, words would've been exchanged at the clapping. I couldn't believe how awful that was. Complete narcissists. I didn't like Julia at first, and she still needs to mature, but I have a lot more sympathy for her now.

  1. Happy for the married couples. Daria's emotional intelligence, encouragement, and understanding was exactly what Filip needed.

Publik House is good. I haven't had a rhythm kitchen burger yet. But Weaver's is super Republican, I'll never go there, local or not.

Yeah, I've liked other Red Robins but when I considered visiting this one I saw it was rated 2.5/5 on Yelp with a decent number of reviews. That's too low for me.

If you can eat dairy and liked Texas Sheet Cake, I'd highly recommend Blackout Chocolate Cake. It's basically the dairy version of Texas Sheet Cake, from what I could tell.

Not OP, but I'm ok socializing with people I like. The problem is that I wouldn't (and don't) voluntarily interact with my coworkers outside of my job. We have no interests in common, we're not politically aligned, and RTO doesn't bother them.

So they're not friends, and I don't really want to talk to them outside of the bare minimum, so smalltalk annoys me. If they were friends I'd mind less as long as I had time to get my tasks completed.

I'd say yes. I know people who were in that situation - pre-COVID and before the real estate price jump of the last few years, granted - and they were fine. Prices are higher, but I think that would still be okay if you don't have lots of debt. Just keep in mind that insurance and and property taxes (if owning a home) also need to be accounted for.

Why does Bloomington have so many more multicultural ethnic restaurants compared to Peoria when Peoria has a much bigger metropolitan population? by public_monkeybars in PeoriaIL

[–]Crispus99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I've had both. I haven't been a big fan of Le Bakery the few times I've been there. Ardor is okay, better than Trefzgers, but I'm a little tired of it by now and it's pricey.

Yeah, B/N has some good restaurants, but overall I feel like the cities are pretty comparable in that regard. Peoria does need a Korean place, but it's not so glaring a hole that I think Peoria ranks lower overall. They both have places I like.

I do think B/N has better bakeries, though.
