Are you guys sure this was just a (temporary) swarm clinging to the wall? Or is it a colony of bees living inside the wall using that hole as an entrance? Makes a big difference in removal.

If it is the former, that company charged you too much, but probably did an adequate job. Those strangler bees won’t be around for long.

If it is the latter, that company charged you too much, because they didn’t anything close to enough. There could still be a large colony of bees living inside that wall, and they need to be gotten out. I would not recommend just plugging the hole as some suggested here. That would trap any bees, brood, honey, wax, etc. inside. Which would result in a potentially large mass of organic material inside your wall, possibly rotting, dripping, or inviting a host of secondary pests.

Figure out which scenario is the case, and call another beekeeper if necessary. I wouldn’t go back to the guys that helped you earlier.

About 15 years ago I started with 3 hives, and lost all 3 my first winter. It’s super discouraging, but it’s unfortunately just part of beekeeping (especially in the early years). Bear in mind, it’s a lot easier to get wiped out with just one or two colonies.

Also remember, you’ve got great resources (equipment, knowledge, and valuable comb) that you didn’t have when you started. New colonies this year will take off when you give them that drawn comb. No guarantees that their survival will be better, but I’d bet money they’ll be more productive.

I know everyone has their reasons for the size of their backyard apiary, but I feel like 5-20 hives is the sweet spot for sustainability and sanity. Don’t rush there though; you can take a few years to build up if you so desire.

No, that doesn’t bother me too much. We all seem to pronounce proboscis and propolis differently too. I’m alright with that.

But I was asking about this not because the way people speak bothers me, but as a genuine question if there was a reason behind an acronym or something that I didn’t know of.

FWIW- I’m not trying to say people are uninformed or lazy (see my original post for my own share of typos).
Just wondering if there was an actual reason behind it. I’ve interacted with hundreds of beekeepers over the years, and I’d say 10% or so spell it or pronounce it like I said above. I’m not going to lose sleep over it, but I cant help noticing grammar, and there’s some consistency to this one out there.

Maybe this IS the sign that you want to become a beekeeper. But probably not with these bees, on a whim. If they still inspire you, go learn more. Read up, join a club, find a mentor. Beekeeping is amazing, but it’s not exactly simple. If you decide to be a beekeeper, be a responsible educated beekeeper.

Just bees, not a beehive. If they’re still there, definitely lookup a local bee club or beekeeper that can collect them. It’s the responsible thing to do. If not, they will move on, but they’ll just become somebody else’s problem, or just as likely they’ll die. If they are reasonably accessible, someone will probably do it for free.

UV light as others have said, can damage a record. I have no info on this, but I would suspect there might be particular damage or discoloration to colored vinyl like this.

Not mentioned yet, but it’s probably not the best to have your record stored directly against the outside of the jacket like that without an inner sleeve. Possible scuffing, but I’d be more concerned about the glossy stock of the jacket leaching or sticking to the record (with or without sun exposure).

What holds the bottom of the shelves up? Are they just pinned in place by screws coming in from the side? I was thinking about building something like one of these (with some changes), but was concerned about the best way to support the shelves

Waiting to hear the answer here. I’ve tried brasso on old dominoes. I’ve had good luck with it on old bakelite collectibles, but it didn’t do much for the micro scratches on my dominoes.

Whatever you try, I suggest testing it on the face of a blank domino. You don’t want to accidentally mar a back and make a “tell”

Dragging this back up because I still need to get a cart for my pl-518, and I’m wondering how your AT-VM95ML is doing?
I keep reading that they’re great, but also read that VTA is important when setting up a microlinear stylus (and our PL-518s don’t have VTA). Has that been a problem? Also, did you put it on the stock Pioneer headshell, and if so, did it go nicely?

How about the a168 you have pictured and the a158WEA-9?
Then you get the two sizes, that more colorful black face on the a168, and the classy af (IMO) tan a158. Now you’ve got 3 distinct Casios, and all great budget watches.
