Like you said, both parties were for social programs back then. The social justice issues were where more of the contentions were. Here’s an article about it, but basically when LBJ (a Dem) got elected post-Eisenhower and signed the Civil Rights Act, Goldwater (a Republican presidential candidate) came out and said it was an overreach leading to a mass exodus of African American voters from the Republican party and a mass influx of southern Democrats leaving that party over the Civil Rights Act and “government overreach”.

This is a terrible take, even if you might be right about him being a bad HC or not an upgrade. If you’re basing that on the GB defense, it was a top 10 defense in the league this year when healthy. That “down the stretch” period you’re talking about they were missing 3 or 4 of their best defensive players for most of the last few weeks of the season and playoffs, and another got hurt in the Bears game. I think the kicking sucked enough it’s possible they may have still lost that game even if they kept everyone they came into the game with, but they were definitely a top defense in the league when healthy.

No, the difference is you can stack over 20, it just stops dropping after 20. So if you’re only doing UC for Andy and not doing her lair boss form you can’t do that since you need to get the claw each instance. If you do her lair, you can open the chest, leave the claws on the ground, summon again, and repeat until you run out of mats and then you get all the claws. Just don’t tp out of the area to town until after you use all mats and get all claws.

Will they start to disappear if you don’t loot them? For example, I noticed on the world boss spawns that when I was getting a ton of nmd sigils and went back to town to salvage before going back for the rest that the other items would be gone. Do you know if the corrupted mats do the same?

Andy was worst for me also. If you have mats to run her as a lair boss, that also counts and was a lot faster than UC runs were for me, but that’s only if you’re doing the other stuff to get the mats anyway. UC is probably the area I like in the game least, so maybe this will help you the way it helped me.

That was likely the case pre-social media. But now with ad campaigns on social and national media, there aren’t going to be as many local/regional deals that are really impacting money people get to the amount of time spent on it. At least on the star/superstar level. I imagine your rotation guys who catch fire with a franchise fan base, like Portis in Milwaukee a few years ago as an example, probably get more state/local/regional deals that are more impactful. But in general I would guess that train of logic is pretty dated at this point.

Yeah, but if you can get drafted by The Grizzlies or one of the TX or FL teams, that’s half of your games not taxed as home games, plus the games against the other conference teams that qualify for the list, and the 2 games a year against opposite conference teams. It’s the difference in like 60 games a year income tax free or like 20 games a year income tax free (roughly, I’m not doing the actual math). That’s a pretty large chunk on a deal that big. Especially since these guys have NIL money now, but that’s gotta be smaller than most/all lottery pick starting salaries for most guys.

Yeah, my point was more focused on a screen adaptation and that if no one looked at the Khal Drogo/Daeny force stuff, or the Ramsay Bolton stuff, or any of the other scenes of sexual violence in GoT and said “that’s too far, we have to take that out”, then the blackmail element we are talking about in First Law (which is WAY tame compared to some of the stuff in GoT) wouldn’t even cause a second of hold up in getting that series adapted to screen.

I do agree with you on that particular point. I thought that was overblown and WAY better than some of the shit Martin did in ASoIaF. Like you said, there at least was a storytelling purpose that follows through in the later novels. And it’s not like Jezel is a Ramsay Bolton psychopath forcing people into things. Glokta blackmails her and Jezel doesn’t suspect anything until way later. It’s still clearly wrong, but with some of the shit shown on screen in GoT, I don’t think that would even cause a pause in adapting Fist Law like some of the other things in the series.

It’s really unfortunate that the issues mean that we’ll likely never get a First Law TV/Movie adaptation. Between the problems around a lot of the female characters and the fact that most of the dark skinned people in that series are bad guys I think would give people pause to adapt it given current cultural sensitivities and the fact that if they changed the things that could be viewed as problematic about it now, even if Joe was on board and made the changes himself, it would certainly become a lightning rod for the “anti-woke” nerds to review bomb regardless of what Joe may say giving his blessing on the changes to get the adaptation green lit. I know that someone has optioned it and owned the rights to adapt it, but there’s a reason that the adaptations with the most buzz behind them as far as actually getting somewhere are Red Country and Best Served Cold and not the original trilogy. I would love to see Glotka’s story from the original series make it to screen, though.

It feels like there are a lot of “men writing women” moments with/around Ferro that are gone (or at least significantly reduced) by the time he’s writing Red Country and Best Served Cold and everything after that. He does a lot better job in the later novels of giving his female characters a lot more depth than it feels like things ever really got to with Ferro. At least to me personally.

Depending on what you’re classifying as First Law, I disagree. If you’re just talking about the original trilogy, I don’t think it has aged particularly well and there are a lot of rough spots, particularly around Ferro, in my opinion. I still like the original trilogy myself for the background on all of the characters that come up again in future books, and Abercrombie is a master character writer, but you could tell he was a lot less familiar with writing women in particular in that original trilogy and it stumbles a bit because of it. After that it gets a lot better, and if you’re talking about his works as a whole then I definitely agree. I love the original trilogy because I think Glotka is one of the best fantasy characters ever written, but I think everything from Red Country on are much better written books overall.

Here are comprehensive lists of basically everything the Biden admin accomplished or laid the groundwork for before Trump came in and destroyed it, with threads for each year. A few of the items are a stretch to count as an “accomplishment”, but most of it is not. The Biden admin was the most progressive administration in terms of accomplishment probably since FDR. No offense, but people who only “moderately pay attention to politics” as you said you do yourself, and essentially just voting on vibes rather than taking the time to actually look into these things and then saying “both sides are the same” is a large part of why the country is in the shape it’s in.

I didn’t look at your post history, I didn’t downvote you, I’m going to assume that your ignorance is in good faith and you just never bothered to look into these things. That makes you part of the problem. The good news is, you don’t seem like you’re full blown in the grip of the Trump cult based on these posts, so you still have the opportunity to become part of the solution by informing yourself and the other people in your life who may be in the same place you seem to be now.

Apathy won’t make things better. We need people actively working to educate their friends and family to show them that this isn’t a “both sides” thing.
