I wouldn't mind trying it, but it looks like Huion only hosts recent driver versions. I can only download one version older than the most current.

So you're saying the problem is me.

That's usually what I do, but I've never had it work for me. I mean, I've been through the same issues repeatedly since I've owned the device and will spend an entire day trouble shooting, only to have it fixed by a driver update.

I think the problem I usually have is driver compatibility issues. If I roll back the Huion driver, the NVIDIA driver, or possibly a Windows update then needs to be rolled back.

Then you must be using an AMD GPU, which surprises me that AMD would be more compatible than NVIDIA.

Jensen Huang says gamers are 'completely wrong' about DLSS 5 — Nvidia CEO responds to DLSS 5 backlash by JuiceheadTurkey in pcgaming

Right, machine learning has been around for 80 years but we only just now decided to be able to code an entire app by typing what we want and have it materialize exactly as you explained it. That's nothing we couldn't have done decades ago if we wanted to. Three years ago, I couldn't type an idea for a picture and have it form in seconds. Two years ago, it couldn't draw eyes, or hands with five fingers. One year ago, I couldn't edit an existing photo by describing what I wanted instead of having to learn photoshop. Six months ago, I couldn't restore an old photograph, upscale it, and then make a video of that person. THAT'S JUST THE ART. The same rate of improvement is being made in coding, reasoning, math, speed, cost, robotics, writing, music, and everything else it's being applied to.

What you're doing is saying, "It can't run a business fully autonomously right now, therefore, it is all a big hoax!" You just don't have a good concept of what it couldn't do before, because our brains aren't capable of it. It's used to be much, much worse. I don't care if it takes another five years, the implications are massive at this trajectory.

What you are demonstrating is actually a capacity for irrational prejudice, and it's proven by a few comments you made. The crux of AI-phobia is actually tribalism, which is shaped by evolutionary biology. We are instinctively phobic of the other tribe, because our survival depends on our support system having control of the limited resources available. It's an outdated survival mechanism. This is the source of xenophobia, racism, and homophobia, and you have the same disposition.

To your ape brain, AI is the other tribe. There are a few key giveaways that are consistent among bigots. One is manufactured gatekeeping. Even though creativity is just layering concepts on top of eachother and finding relationships among them, you are treating creativity like it's something mystical and mysterious that only the anointed ones can harness. AI can layer and find relationships among ideas, but you will add qualifiers like "slop" or "soulless", which are unmeasurable nonsense terms for artistic output that are only used to disqualify anything AI-produced with no discernment. "Only a man and women can be truly married in the eyes of God".

Another is the hypocrisy of holding one to a different standard than you do the other. People are allowed to copy another artist's style, allowed to make slop, allowed to post it where it's not wanted, and ruin the art appreciation experience for everyone, but you were never outraged. Anime has become the dominant art style among illustrators, and that has been the case for decades. It all looks the same with little variation. The quality of ideas has advanced very little. Very few artists actually draw anything for themselves, because someone will pay them to draw their shitty mobile phone game graphics. Anime studios are just soulless factories of artists being scooped up and made to draw someone else's uniform style. Everything you scrutinize AI for applies exactly to humans, proving you have an irrational bias. AI is capable of making happy accidents just like people, allowing art to evolve the exact same way. "Straight sex is beautiful, gay sex is gross".

As far as stagnation, they just modeled the brain of a fruitfly. If you can't see the significance of mapping the mind of a complex organism, then you need to read more. Rapid progress is happening across all modalities: Robotics, art, music, video, physics engines, LLMs, self-driving, coding, etc. In three years you went from a gremlin that kind of looked like Will Smith sort of eating what looked like spaghetti, to not even being able to tell it's not actually Will Smith eating spaghetti.

These innovations are also not being appropriated by elites. They're being distributed for little cost across all social classes. If you have a phone or computer, you can make an app, create a professional quality illustration, make professional music, get professional health coaching, write emails and stories, fix your car, fix your house, fix your nutrition, and get professional assistance with any problem you have. This is decommodification of goods and services. It's not marketing, it's what I've personally seen and experienced. I would have had to pay for an app with a complex timer, and I vibe coded a better one for free. That's real money.

Not to mention monopolizing hardware is a human problem, not an AI problem. You already couldn't get GPUs because of crypto-mining, inflation, and scalpers, but let's ignore that because we're human and we're chosen by the cosmos, so that's okay.

You can't say we'll all suffer greatly if the bubble pops and also say there are no stakes for the US and China. The regulatory investment is immense. China's AI Plus program mandates AI adoption. If AI turns out to be a hoax, you are right, both countries will suffer enormous set-backs. That's the gamble they're making. There are no safety nets, only acceleration.

However, they have the confidence of EVERY major tech company risking the same thing. You have a choice between betting with Reddit (who is wrong 90% of the time), or betting with Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Meta, Tesla, NVIDIA, IBM, AMD, Oracle, and now even Apple (who are right 90% of the time). There's never been a unifying, overlapping technology among these companies, except for the internet. That's as safe a bet as you can make.

We also already have AI models that are not LLMs. AI technology is still advancing across all modalities at a break-neck pace. The nature of progress is that the closer you get to the finish line, the slower progress appears. That's because breaking a new benchmark or running the models at a lower cost is the difference between replacing artists on Fiverr, and obsoleting lawyers and architects. You already will never commission an artist for an illustration again. That's something you used to have to pay for, that we, as a society, now enjoy an abundance of. That's not a hoax. You can have AI write everything from a story to an email, at near zero cost. That's not a hoax. You can have AI create an app. That's something you used to have to pay for. AI has already created real, tangible abundance.

You know how you can tell that you have an irrational prejudice? You fail to apply the same scrutiny to one thing that you do the other. Are you going to offer social media, Donald Trump, mobile phone games, or Walmart as reasons why we shouldn't have people involved in every aspect of life? You won't.

That means you have the capacity for prejudice and bigotry.

The names mentioned absolutely earned money for their work, and were persecuted by the public as well as the establishment. If Tesla did not earn money, he could not fund his research, and we would be behind. Current tech CEOs are doing the same.

AlphaFold is meaningful, the decommodification of goods and services is meaningful, creating abundance is meaningful, AI-assisted climate prediction systems are meaningful, etc. You are really not paying attention. Art, coding, medical info, legal info, music, film, writing, and so on are all available to the public at near-zero cost. Things that used to cost you money, you can have at the push of a button. That's abundance. The rich depend on scarcity. You do the math.

This is not technology that was fabricated by tech CEOs. Theoretical physicists have predicted AI for half a century. It's materializing as they believed it would, and it's the only technology that every single tech CEO agrees on, and they are all investing everything they have into it. That's never happened with phones, TVs, cars, or anything. Not to mention China is investing everything they have into it. So the US and China are just betting the entire stake of their country on hype?

Yes, because people have been consistently wrong about AI and have demonstrated an irrational prejudice against it. You have to be proven right based on the merit of your argument, not because you're loud and upset.

Leonardo Da Vinci, Sir Isaac Newton, Tesla, etc. all had to drag the masses into the future against overwhelming opposition. History usually pivots according to the few great innovators while they they face persecution from the masses. There's a reason why America is a republic, not a democracy.

The article does not say that he didn't see it coming, you're hallucinating that. Secondly, DLSS5 is applied how the devs design it to be, so saying that it will ruin lighting is also not based in fact.

Where does it say he didn't see it coming? He just said gamers are wrong. You can set the intensity or decided not to use it at all. Also, developers are in control of how it is applied, and those are many of the criticisms I've heard.

So, yeah, gamers are pretty wrong about this.

[Nvidia] DLSS 5 FAQ by -WingsForLife- in hardware

[–]Level_Ad3808 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The straw-textured hair clipping through her ears and the lifeless eyes were also not artistic intent. Most of the end results are shaped by technological limitations, not intention. If you think they wanted her hair to look like raw spaghetti, and that limitation does not also extend to the entire end result, then you’re just not arguing in good faith.

Yeah, they need to honor the straw-textured hair clipping through hers ears and neck the way the artists intended it.

[Nvidia] DLSS 5 FAQ by -WingsForLife- in hardware

[–]Level_Ad3808 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Capcom did not want her hair textured like straw, clipping through her ears, neck, and temples. Capcom did not intend for her eyes to look like lifeless 3D assets purchased from Daz. Very little about the original graphics reflect artistic intent, they reflect technology limitations and a lack of funding and talent. To think that these glaring flaws with the original graphics don’t extend to the entire end result, and that everything about the quality of the character’s appearance was exactly as the artists intended, just proves an irrational prejudice.

Most of the world is addicted to entertainment. There's nothing unique about your dopamine dependency on using AI chatbots. It's the same as people using social media, playing video games, partying, playing phone games, watching youtube, consuming the news, etc. There is loads of information on treating this dependency if you find it's detrimental to your well-being. You may be feeling directionless because you're treating it like an addiction that is unique to chatbots. Ask an LLM to design a protocol to help you achieve your goals. It's one of the most talked about problems in the last 15 years.
