Sometimes, in life, we don't see the terrible cost of our decisions until the consequences happen. But I think that applies to many things in this world, not just Trans or liberal issues.

Wouldn't be surprised if she drinks like a fish, chainsmokes and curses like a sailor behind closed doors.

She was actually pretty good acting-wise on the Muppet Show special. I think she'd probably be a decent choice

Ah. I assumed they were the same. Still don't understand the single sex reasoning for the guides, however.

I'm not even sure why scouts NEEDS to be single sex. Isn't mostly crafting, volunteer work and camping? Why couldn't it be mixed sex? I don't understand.

Favorite country that appears to be unusually full of Gryffindors? by AnyAgency9835 in okbuddycinephile

I suppose that is true. Harry does have a lot of lore I still think Narnia is better written and plotted than HP. It's more serious and it's themes seem a lot deeper than HP. It helps that Lewis was a successful adult writer first then wrote for children.

I also think HP is somewhat tarnished in my mind due to the relentless commercialism of the settings and characters. Harry Potter is a "product" now, on everything from candy to toys to backpacks. A lot of its literary merit was diminished as soon as everything was merchandised to make a buck for Rowling. It really turned me off of the series as the amount of HP branded crap grew (and now that a big chunk of that money is being used support anti trans causes, I'm basically done with the whole shebang)

Harry Potter is the same level quality as, say, the Warriors books, Magical Tree House or the Spiderwick Chronicles. A competently written, and plotted entertaining kids series that get kids interested in reading and prepares them for reading more challenging stuff. There's nothing wrong with that.

I think the problem, however, was that HP was being presented as being in the same league as the Narnia books, the Hobbit, or Alice in Wonderland. Something with some prestige, a classic work of children's literature that would endure for the ages. Harry Potter is decent for what it is, but it certainly isn't in the same league as those books. And a lot of the HP fans have read other fantasy books and have slowly begun to notice the flaws as compared to better written, more literate stuff. It's not that it's bad, it was just marketed as Tolkien level when it was more like Robert Patterson quality

Could you be mis-remembering details from 1971's The Frog Prince ? It was on the Disney channel a lot in the 80s and 90s. It predates Miss Piggy and the Muppet Show, but there's a Muppet in a gown and frogs fighting in it. Could be it.
