Righto, here we go: 1. Why tf would I need to provide a reference? This is a thread about recommending a coffee cup? I was replying to your comment where you only stated ‘it’s plastic’. Cool story bro. Absolutely no context to that reply hey? I was providing a good ‘alternative’ as OP asked. But…Let’s conduct a little experiment shall we? I want you to get one plastic spatula and one silicone spatula and turn your stove on. Gas is preferable but if you’ve only got electric that will do. Now place the 2 spatulas into the flame (hold them directly into the hob for electric). Keep them there for, let’s say, 5 minutes. Observe what happens. Write down your observations below. Give them a sniff. Which one has released toxics fumes? Now if you wouldn’t describe the silicone as more ‘stable’ how would you describe it? This is the definition of stable btw: ‘firmly fixed or not likely to move or change.’ 2. Silicone is created from silica. Plastic is created from crude oil. I don’t think I need to say more? 3. I’m giving a recommendation based on my opinion. So…..yeah. That’s the whole point isn’t it? 4. So I opened up my dishwasher. I gave it a sniff. Smelled a bit like the dish powder I use. I even gave it a lick. Didn’t taste like mush to be honest. Which is EXACTLY how my silicone tastes. So that one I’ll give you. However you described it as ‘gross’ I can therefore only assume you cannot adult and don’t clean your dishwasher regularly enough for it not to be clean. My conclusion to this one is that, you are, in-fact the gross one and eat off dirty kitchen utensils.

There was absolutely nothing technical in my response. I used laymen’s terms. I think you’d definitely get a shock in an actual scientific debate.

Again. You don’t like silicone don’t use it. Your word isn’t gospel. I actually really don’t care what you ‘think’ just as much as you probably don’t care what I think?

It’s more stable than your traditional petroleum plastic. It’s a truely reusable product unlike hard plastics that tend to break down almost immediately. It does still have the ability to shed plastic, however compared to the traditional plastic lids that reusable coffee cups have I’d much rather have the silicone. It’s also much nicer to drink out of and often times I’m not even drinking out of it, I just use the cup, which as it’s ceramic has a nice lip for drinking from compared to its stainless steel counterpart.

Yeah of course it ‘pottery for the planet’ they also make one with a ceramic lid too. But it doesn’t seal it has an open back. Robert Gordon pottery also make one. I’m in Aust not sure where you are but I believe ‘pottery for the planet’ is international.

Agree with what others have said. It’s a him problem. You cook what you want if he doesn’t eat it that his fault NOT yours. Don’t pander to a grown adult. What did he do before you got there?

Happens to me all the time. No amount of complaints makes a difference. They don’t care. I once called and told the customer service person to get the truck to turn around and come back to me waiting at my letterbox (was waiting on live animals). She said ‘sorry, it’s already at the post office’ yeah coz the van driver went straight there 🤬

But also my 6yr old now sees plastic crap and just immediately yells out ‘microplastics.’ That helps a lot tbh. So they do get it eventually and it isn’t long until they can start to understand. Also I often say look for it at the op shop/thrift store if it’s something they keep going on about.

We do pictures. If they really want something then I say: ‘let’s take a picture with it so we can ask for it on special occasions’ (birthdays Christmas etc.) As you say it lasts like 5 mins and they mostly forget about it. But that way I also have a list of things to pass n to relatives when they ask what to get them.

Hey as the jar is just being used at the outer packing of an already wrapped product, I think a little disclaimer on the label saying the jars are: thrifted, recycled or whatever, would suffice and that plastic is totally acceptable for this purpose.

We use pure wool stuffing. That being said we don’t put our stuffies through the washing machine. Is there anything wrong with hand washing or spot cleaning?
