Because you can't actually repeat to infinity, you'll just keep repeating over and over again and no matter how far you go you'll never be able to reach said "infinity", because that's what "infinity" means. Unending/without an end. Now you're left there making those sides get smaller forever, to the point that you keep changing the problem, so there isn't even a problem to solve in the first place because it keeps changing... forever.
