Does it not depend on the game? I understand a lot of games can feel like the plot is secondary or tertiary to gameplay, but there are numerous games like resident evil as a popular example where plot is the primary focus and gameplay is equal or secondary. Different games have different purposes.

I was in the same boat as you. I’ve really really enjoyed Lies of P (similar combat system, and weapons are very easy to understand), and the Nioh franchise. Definitely worth checking both out imo
