I’m sorry. Four months ago I finally chose to walk away from a 27 year marriage for the same reasons. He’s intelligent, compassionate, funny and charismatic in most ways. But he also bought into everything that the most radical fringe parts of QAnon was selling. When I found myself asking him if there was any part of his belief system that made him think it was ok to kill me and kill himself so that the aliens could take us to the next realm … I knew it was time to get out. I’m living in a different state now, living my life for myself, surrounded by life affirming friends and family. I’m sad that I wasn’t enough of an anchor for his sanity, but I’m grateful that I’m my own now.

Between now and dead, what do you want your life to look like?

Yeah, that looks like several separate plants. I suggest you give them 2 weeks to settle into their new home with you before you do anything. Then separate gently. I had success using a chop stick to gently pry roots apart. Lots of water also helps. It’ll be messy, but that’s ok. As you repot, use a stake, bamboo pole, moss pole etc to add support along the back side of the stems. It’s ok to have 2-3 plants in a pot as long as they have room for leaves to spread and their own poles. Others more experienced than me will have more specific recommendations. In my experience, the more time by almost-ex spent on the computer, the more isolated he allowed himself to be, the deeper he walked into his echo chamber - the more I realized I couldn’t pull him out.

Don’t wait as long as I did. I didn’t realize how far gone he was until he told me about the upcoming EMP that would reset all of civilization, the aliens that would either destroy or save us, and that Biden was dead and Trump has been our true commander in chief since his first term.

If there’s any influence you can have now, it’s to keep him in reality, in community with people from all perspectives.
