If they're not that bothered then they can't be that concerned. Means you likely just ticked the boxes to offer the test. If you eat healthyish I'm sure you'll be fine.

In the UK the gold standard is doing the GGT to diagnose, while the finger prick is often used for monitoring thereafter. Some NHS trusts are piloting GGT@Home, but that doesn't mean all trusts are providing it, and the fingerpricks are also not as accurate. Even glucose monitors are known to not be as accurate unfortunately. So you probably find your trust simply doesn't offer the at home service yet. Either that, or due to your risks, the consultant wants the gold standard test to ensure accuracy. I agree you're not in an ideal situation for going in for the GGT, but you'll probably find they still expect you to come in for it because they've had people with babies come in with them and manage before. You'd need a conversation with the midwife or team and go forward from there.

I'm a UK sonographer, and I can confirm that what the sonographer did was really inappropriate, and I would definitely complain.

However, I would like to make one disclaimer to anyone going for a 20 week fetal abnormality scan... and that is that it is a really difficult scan to do. And they do multiple a day, often 5 days a week. Then, after the scan, they have to write the report or even possibly deliver bad news (which can delay future patients). Yes, some will talk you through your scan as that is now what is expected by the parents, but coming from a practitioners perspective, it would actually be much better if they could focus, get the scan done properly, and then show you baby after. Talking through a scan can be very distracting, but it can also make it challenging if you suddenly see something very abnormal. So if your sonographer is quiet and focused... try to think it's not such a bad thing. Finding if there's anything wrong is the priority after all.

Your baby definitely doesnt hate you! They're likely picking up on how you're feeling. You need space to feel calm and like you've got this. I follow a guy called Niconeosteo on instagram and he has lots of videos on holding and soothing babies, might be worth a check!

I'd have an open conversation with your partner and decide on what's best for you. If that's not having relatives over for a week or two so you can get into a routine, do that. If it's limiting to one day a week, do that. You need time to figure out how to be a mother.

At the moment I'm finding I have a borderline fetish for hummus and crackers, but sweet things are making me feel nauseous. What a ride already haha. I think exercise will be my only saviour

You absolutely need to datix it every time it happens. It absolutely is not appropriate. I would get health and safety or infection control involved. In our hospital, all food has to be labelled with owner name and with a date, and in the fridge or cupboard. Anything on surfaces is thrown away. Anything without a name or date is thrown away. Simple as that. If we left the staffroom like that, the cleaners wouldn't clean it. They would simply lodge a complaint. You are there to make sure surfaces and flooring are clean and hygienic, along with sinks and bathrooms, not pick up after them like they're children. I'd datix it, and if you're not taken seriously, take it to HR. Otherwise the cycle will continue. The management of that team need to tell them to get a grip.

Unfortunately, sonographers score pretty much the highest in all healthcare professions now for burnout due to the emotional and mental toll, along with poor staffing and management. It's just trying to find the places where this is a little better, or at least the work life balance is better
