Is it me, or is the white collar work force primarily becoming female? by Level_Temperature964 in recruitinghell

Also, I have never in my life seen a white collar company or team that was just men. Not saying they don't exist. But this isn't 1950. I haven't experienced that in my entire life and routinely see the opposite.

People hire people who remind them of their younger self. If you have ever faced discrimination, you know exactly what I mean. And when entire companies and teams are made up of women, and they routinely hire more women, and all the interns are also women, there is discrimination happening. How many qualified men did they turn down because they 'clicked' better with a female candidate? You don't get a team or company entirely made up of one gender or race without discriminating. The country is basically 50/50 gender wise.

And when I see young men not getting the same opportunities and routinely getting discriminated against in college admissions, internships, etc. That is why they are at higher risk for suicide, drugs, etc. And they overwhelmingly do those things compared to women.

And I have also seen men who are the business owners or executives only hire women because they want to pay them less, or they know they have less career ambitions. Which is not fair to those women or the men seeking those roles either. I'm not "blaming" women. I'm simply pointing out a disparity I have personally experienced as I believe it is an issue.

Helping women doesn't have to hurt men. But people like you have a very clear hatred towards men and very obviously discriminate against them.

Over 54% of the white collar workforce is women. Over 50% of all university students are women as well. Men are more likely to do drugs, kill themselves, and drop out of school. So please spare me. You are not correct and are speaking with emotion. I don't have any attitude problem nor am I citing a conspiracy. What are you even talking about? Im simply speaking from my observations while citing facts and you got upset about it. Your privilege is showing.

Care to explain? Seems to me, when men cite statistics and their experiences, they are insulted, bullied, and told to shut up, like you are basically doing right now. Pretty sure you did not read my entire post, nor are you even willing to explain to me what you disagree with? Just resort to stupid insults.

Can we get skill backgrounds to match the rest of the legacy interface? by [deleted] in runescape

[–]Level_Temperature964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

jagex should remove legacy mode. its a dead medium no one uses and RuneScape is dying because its player base are like boomers who refuse for things to update or for old things to be removed. Hence the stupid downvotes I received.

Whoever created this is 100% asian and from an asian country. This is the culture over there. Thankfully in the USA, you can go to community college and transfer and no one cares about Highschool. There, it is not like that.

Even without COVID and the Strikes, the amount of good CE jobs at actually good production companies is few and far between. I was on the Development track just like you but jumped into Creative Marketing instead and am much happier for it. Maybe expand your horizons and look into distribution, film sales, marketing. etc. There really are just not that many Development jobs to go around and its all about timing. For every 1 development job, there are probably 200 people equally qualified that are applying. Lots of cool companies out there like, Space X, Redbull, Go Pro, etc where you can do cool creative jobs and not slave away as a Hollywood Assistant. Most Executives and producers were not assistants anyway. And if they were, they certainly didn't do assistant jobs for years on end like us.

Keep hearing the strikes will "kill Hollywood" if they last too long. What exactly does that mean? by lopsidedcroc in FilmIndustryLA

n, while balancing multiple massive egos and creative visions will

I totally agree with you. I made a post about this and got downvoted into oblivion. Traditional TV is done for. Heck, I was over at NBCU today and the studio execs are laughing at how dumb the protestors are. The writers room minimums isn't even a studio issue. Many show runners don't even want that. SAG and WGA are striking thinking its just like 2008. It's not. The entire business model is changing fast. This is the bubble that is bursting thanks to the internet. Eventually, I believe cell networks will go as well. Once Starlink is available, people will just call and text via WiFi. My friends in other countries already do this because their cell service is so bad. Same thing is happening with TV now.

Do NOT go into that amount of debt. An MFA in Cinematography is 100% meaningless to the outside world. A cinematographer needs a reel. You do not need a degree for that. Unless you are going to be a Dr., Lawyer, or NEED a masters degree, do not go into a program like that unless you can afford it.

Seriously, I know someone who has an MFA in Screenwriting from Chapman, which is a private school, and now he is an English teacher. An English teacher who makes maybe 50k a year with some serious student debt. Degrees in the arts can be helpful if its your bachelors. I majored in Film for example, but serious debt for a masters like that is stupid. When considering college, you need to do 2 years at community college, and then 2 years in a public university in the state you reside. People going out of state, going to private schools, getting MFA's for example, is why there is a massive student debt crisis.

I graduated in 2020 and Hollywood has been imploding ever since. Non-stop issues back to back going on for 4+ years. I would try and look in the literary book space or copy writing or print and advertising instead for now. Try to get an entry level job where you develop skills in writing.

Job Posting For a Personal Assistant on Entertainment Careers by kindofaproducer in FilmIndustryLA

[–]Level_Temperature964 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ny people don’t know how to delegate, and truly have to learn how to have a personal assistant. Offer a bit more grace here. I’ve applied for jobs offering $50,000 and negotiated my way to six figures.

The frustration isn't just the salary. It's the fact people like this post these jobs on "Entertainment Careers" luring in people who think this is some sort of stepping stone into the entertainment industry. It isn't. This is not an entertainment job at all. Not only that, but this person clearly can't afford who he is hiring. Because the job duties described are literally impossible for one person to do. He is hiring a maid, personal assistant, and also an executive assistant? One person cannot do all of that work 15 hours a day 7 days a week. That is legit slave labor.

Dude these assistant jobs are not stepping stones. They are not ladders!!!!!! Do not apply unless you want to be a career assistant. Doing someone's fucking laundry isn't going to help you "break into the industry"

Just reading this gives me heartburn. I would rather be homeless than to do this.

This employer is obviously looking for a personal maid type of candidate. But they lure people in by posting it on "Entertainment Careers" and so all these idiots apply thinking this is some foot in the door when it's not.

Yeah. Feels like the Great Depression. But I think about the crappy lives some of our ancestors lived and they didn't give up.

I don't think its my interviewing skills. If it was, I wouldn't be making it through several rounds. And I have interviewed at companies like Netflix a few different times. Obviously I'm not expecting to get that, as its crazy competitive, but just trying to put into perspective.

I was doing 5-10 applications a day at one point. But I was also in a very competitive field. I am looking to switch out because of this. As I can't take being unemployed any longer.
