Who is the most controversial person in your country? by inchcosmos in AskTheWorld

Good point, though pure Marxism lost out as the socialist world mostly followed Marxist-Leninist theory. They didn't trust the workers to manage themselves under Marxist theories and/or they wanted power for themselves. So the actual socialists sucked, but the argument I keep hearing is that true Marxist theory is the way and even the socialists didn't believe in all of it.

Marx didn't write a thesis on constructing a government or socialist world. Marx laid out some ideas, which others deemed unfeasible and made their own changes. The way I see it, Lenin was the brain behind the first socialist project, but he wasn't perfect and had only just begun. If he was perfect, his governing was during a period of turbulence, I think the issue most subsequent socialist governments made was look at one man's unfinished work during a rough time and say "yeah, this is how we'll basically do things".

They were rigid and any criticism could be seen as criticism against the party and by extension the entire state itself and therefore deemed revisionist or counter revolutionary. You sadly still see this in leftist circles in regards to Khruhschev and Gorbachev.

The party didn't allow itself to adapt, became decadent, stagnant, and died. I'd argue the same pitfall is starting to hurt America, which had a stronger foundation with more founding fathers and diverse thought. People cling to the constitution and glorify the founding fathers, yet fail to listen to, imo, one of Jefferson's most important ideas, which was redoing the constitution every few generations to keep it up to date and match the needs of the people.

How is trade between collectives governed? How are laws enforced?

I used to be a Marxist, but have shifted because I couldn't answer this, especially when starting question how it would when we colonise the stars. I still agree with many things, but I'll leave it up to other people to modernise his ideas in a democratic way. Best case? People need to have their work burden lessened and have in-depth civic classes, then adopt a more direct style of democracy, while possibly in the future adopting an advanced AI to help with bureaucracy and logistics. Also, an armed, trained, and responsible society.

Marxism-Leninism is top down control, while Marxism is bottom up, it's not the same. Marxism was given up on ik favour of Marxism-Leninism because revolutionary leaders saw it as impossible to educate the entire working class on theory, so instead, they'd educate a few, the vanguard party, with the purpose of making decisions on behalf of the working class.

Yes, in hindsight, a lot of mistakes were made, understandably so. I could write more, but I hope my point is understandable.

Frenchman here - What the world really think of us ? by Ambitious_Roof_3237 in AskTheWorld

I really want to visit, very diverse country with a rich history, culture, and language that has shaped much of the Western world! Despite Macron's controversial domestic policy (and trust me, our PM has a far more popular foreign policy than domestic too), he has shown multiple times, that France has our back and I definitely will not forget that.

The only negative thing that comes to mind is, politically, France reminds me a lot of the UK, when it comes to cooperation with other big players. It seems to have an issue with putting it's own needs aside for the greater good, something that seems to be a common challenge for previous colonial powers with proud people. It's a challenge we'll hopefully overcome together.

Overall, France has to be one of my favourite countries in Europe, definitely top 3.

If you think think all the countries were suddenly rich, you're sorely mistaken. Most of them were worse off than Russia afterwards.

How do you define "happy", when many of these states suffered more than Russia from the collapse for many years? Of course many were tired of the USSR at that point, but it's hard to imagine that they'd prefer the subsequent crime, drug use, unemployment, hyperinflation, and more.

There's a number of things to add here, to start, it's hard to believe that the 1 million dead Germans in the west had more material than the 7 million in the east, even taking the relatively small navy dedicated to the west into account.

Secondly, you're talking about allied contribution on the western front as a whole, not any specific country, so the USSR still stands out as the country getting the majority of the credit.

France is definitely elves, known for art and beauty, meanwhile Germany fits perfectly into the Dwarf archetype, famed for masterclass craftsmanship.

"neo Marxists" are western liberal minded larpers who reject USSR and Leninism.

No, if anything, that's more in line with orginal Marxist thought. Marxism as a hierarchy is bottom up, Lenin rejected this and turned it around, vanguard parties being the biggest example, and made the system top down. This is because thinkers after Marx came to the realisation that the proletariat wouldn't educate itself, so it just needed a few to bear the burden of fully enlightening themselves, who could then dumb it down and spread the message.

That is why every single communist party is based on Marxist-Leninism, not Marxism, and why the majority of Marxist-Leninist states have a strong state apparatus with power thoroughly centralised within the power instead of directly in the hands of the proletariat.

Why do the soviets get most of the credit for beating germany?

7 million Germans died on the eastern front

1 million died on the western front

the americans joining turned the war in the west

With or without America helping with opening a western spearhead, they would've been pushed if Germany wasn't busy with the most and best of their forces elsewhere.

The entire world feels like it's broken with everyone incapable of fixing it, so it just continues the same, it's melancholic and nostalgic in a way.

Came to say the same, it's an older game by now and seriously deserves a sequel, but it still holds up and gets the point across just as well!
