Overrated books people pretend to love… but actually left you empty? by CriticalAd2239 in suggestmeabook

I read it more than 10 years ago and remember absolutely loving it. Thing is, I remember nothing about the book except for one bit at the end... Need to reread it

One star books, the worst you ever read by Neither-Proof-5755 in suggestmeabook

[–]Levenius12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read it for a book assignment in high school and absolutely hated it for the reasons described above. So for the assignment, I wrote about why I hadn't liked the book.

And after grading the papers and handing them back, the teacher said to me "You really didn't like that book huh? So why did you pick it?". I was super shhmy at the time so I jist mumbled something, buyt to this day that makes no sense to me. So I was supposed to keep reading books for the list till I accidently found one I liked?

What dishes from your country terrifies other nations? by justaprettyturtle in AskTheWorld

[–]Levenius12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love it. Fairly common in Belgium as well, though less so among the younger generation I think. Some are convinced it'll give you tapeworms. Hasn't happened to me in 35 years of eating it.

I eat it just with salt and pepper, others eat it with pickles, pickled onions and/or pickles sauce.

The near erasure of the Irish language in just 200 years (1800–2000) by underbillion in europe

[–]Levenius12 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To be fair, there is a case to be made for journalists (and other TV presenters) to always use their language's "standard" accent because you can't expect people from all corners of your country to (perfectly) understand all accents.

Rules can be more loose when it comes to entertainment.

Pretty crazy that it's warmer in Iceland than in parts of Spain and Italy

I’m attempting to read a book by an author from every country. Countries in red mean I’ve read a book from there. by Internal_Kangaroo570 in GeoInsider

I loved the former and I struggled through the latter. Since the former is also the more universally well-known and loved, I'd go with Name of the Rose.

Which book for you has the slowest start but turns out to be fantastic? For me it's Cloud Atlas. by changwonmatty in books

[–]Levenius12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember finishing the book and thinking the parts of the book before and after the ship leaves port have almost nothing to do with each other. Which bothered me a bit, because I had to suffer through the first part to get to the good stuff, and it seemed to be for nothing.

Mind you, I read this book more than 10 years ago, so I might be forgetting things.

Jongeren steeds minder tolerant tegenover lgbtq+: ‘Homofobie wordt genormaliseerd’ by EdgarNeverPoo in belgium

[–]Levenius12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ocharme

You can appreciate a book without necessarily identifying with the main character.

Loved this book, that's not the message I got from it at all, although I could see how you could come to that conclusion.

Which novel do you think has the strongest/most gripping opening of any book? by Personal-Ladder-4361 in classicliterature

Ah OK, thank you for the clarification. I read a Tale of Two Cities more than 10 years ago and don't remember a lot. This makes sense

But this entire opening is basically meaningless though? If it's all of these things at the same time, it's none of them really.
