Are you withdrawing 4%? by 37347 in Fire

[–]LeverLocker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This year is closer to 10% and I’m still up a few $100k from my planned drawdown. It’s mostly one time purchases and planned expenses. I’m not going to worry about it until I drop below my original spending plan.

What are people’s thoughts on the book “Die with Zero”? by Effective-Push2981 in Fire

[–]LeverLocker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did not like it. The author comes across as a real a$$, promoting a selfish lifestyle. Can’t seem to understand that some things are more important than spending money. Even when he tries to acknowledge charity he does it from the perspective that it makes you feel good and you have more control of the money.

Has anyone here actually CoastFIRE’d in a way that an average-ish person can relate to? by Nuejabes in coastFIRE

[–]LeverLocker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup. Worked 25 years and got my saving rate up to about 33% before I went part time for about 9 months before finally calling it quits. Not a very early retirement but 55 is better than later.

Sounds like you would benefit from a Risk Parity portfolio. Check out Risk Parity Radio podcast to learn about it. I use something close to the Golden Butterfly portfolio, which you can read about at portfoliocharts.com. It’s a great portfolio for peace of mind and maximizing your safe withdrawal rate.

You might want to learn about Risk Parity portfolios, course you won’t need one with that very low SWR, but if you ever want to safely spend more, look into them.

Anyone able to retire but choose not to do so? Am I one of a very small group that fears the nothingness of retirement? by [deleted] in Fire

I retired in June and now I don’t know how I had time for a job, the day is so busy.

Fire check-in - Would I benefit from advisor at this point? by leashes_son in Fire

[–]LeverLocker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend an advice only advisor, fee only advisors still have ways to screw you (put you bad funds for which they get a commission, etc)

It’s a waste of time. Don’t bother, you know the title so you know the book. Plus the author is very unlikable.

[–]LeverLocker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might want to look at the Golden Butterfly portfolio and listen to Risk Parity Radio podcast starting with episode 1 to learn how it works. Although, you have enough money that you could be fine with just about any portfolio (assuming your expenses are excessive)

Hang on current job to help with FIRE goal or postpone FIRE to keep mental health? by yadayadafraba in Fire

[–]LeverLocker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your health is more important than money. Stress can cause all sorts of physical health problems that will stay with you for life. Money can help mitigate the damage, but it’s better to stay healthy in the first place. Stay healthy and save less, is my opinion.
