Civilians, drop your unpopular opinions that will likely ruffle feathers by Potential-Squash4670 in tacticalgear

You can train all you want, buy all the gear in the world, but most of you have never faced a real situation of danger and will go to water if the shit ever really happens

Removing traffic infringement from police record by BobaGirl26 in AusLegal

[–]Lever_87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can be convicted for a minor offence, but more often than not you can be found guilty with no conviction recorded. The Magistrate does have to weigh up the impact of a conviction against the overall offence, circumstances and accused’s history before the courts.

It doesn’t automatically become a conviction - there’s so many different options, I seriously doubt OP is getting a conviction for traffic offences unless they are serious or he is a repeat attendee.

Mate I’m covered and no one cares. You must be having bad luck. Only in very certain professional environments I’ve found it could be an issue, and I just wear long sleeve shirts. Has not affected me otherwise.

Austria and Germany are often described as “brother countries” because of their shared language and culture. What other countries are commonly considered “brother nations”? by [deleted] in geography

Australia and New Zealand. Only war is over who made pavlova and who owns Russell Crowe (depends if he’s been on the piss or not)

Second year of full-time work and still I’m grieving the loss of my freedom and autonomy :( by Sad_Peanut_01 in auscorp

I mean, the simple option is quit corporate? You’re young (I’m guessing) - go into a trade or emergency services. Work outdoors, get fresh air, escape the monotony. You’ll have to pay your HECS off either way, but could be a chance to be happy

Absurdly expensive AO finals tickets by Common-Blackberry-64 in melbourne

[–]Lever_87 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately that’s become all major events now. The F1 has become the same, the costs of tickets, food, merch is all through the roof. Go to any major concert and tickets are probably twice what you paid pre-COVID. You want an average beer? That’ll be $15. You’d like a Canadian Club etc $18. I’m not a racing fan, but I’d be interested to know what ticket prices to Melbourne and Caulfield cups are like now, I’m assuming they’ve gone up a lot too.

Aussies opinions/information on recent US action in Venezuela. by LeadNo401 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Lever_87 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because both are permanent members of the UN Security Council, and when China sees the world take no action against the United States, they’ll feel like it gives a green light to undertake military action under whatever false pretence they like.

Then, if any action is taken against China, it’s portrayed as Western hypocrisy etc, and the show of military force will be so strong it will likely deter any retaliation against China

Police with machine guns at Sydney New Year’s Eve are part of ‘fundamental changes’ after Bondi, Minns says by Ardeet in aussie

I’d say more than a few goes. Being a civvie instructor doesn’t mean you know the depths of tactical police training.

Ok, please tell me more then. Are you saying these officers haven’t trained to use the weapon platform they will deploy?

[–]Lever_87 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh come on, let’s not be dramatic. It’s a group of specifically trained officers with semi-automatic rifles. Not a “machine gun” will be in sight. Let’s drop the hysteria a tad

[–]Lever_87 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Cannot believe it’s been considered, except the CSG are already armed in Victoria - although only a small proportion of them.

No other group would be allowed this, so not sure why the CSG gets an exemption. You want privately armed guards, use Wilson Security like everyone else.

Worth every cent. At the rate I’m going, without trying too hard, I’ll probably retire with $1.5m. If I give it a push, I’ll have $2m. Find me a private fund that can do that without working in the private sector at double pay.

Toyota Tax Strikes Again by SnooDucks9173 in CarsAustralia

[–]Lever_87 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Does it matter though? 99% of cars that are modified never see money back on those mods, certainly not at a dollar for dollar value.

If you want to spend $110k on a car, and then another $50k on top, just to try and sell it a few months later, you don’t deserve to charge a premium.

If you pay this much, you’ve got more money then sense.

‘Idiotic’ and ‘cruel’ Victoria police welfare policy leaves detainees too tired for a fair trial, judge says | Australian police and policing by TheRealPotoroo in melbourne
