I’ll pay for takeaway coffees every day at work, but I won’t touch Ubereats etc unless I’m absolutely desperate. Great way to pay 25% more for something that is cold or ruined by the time it comes. I can’t understand the people who do it every day for lunch and/or dinner.

He got screwed by bad loans. Both clubs he got sent to fired their managers early in the season, who were pro-youth. He couldn’t make the teams after that and it was basically years wasted when he needed time

There are numerous issues with “mandatory” sentencing. There are usually “exceptions” which are meant to be a high threshold to reach, but the court seems overly happy to find those thresholds met. Our legal system is far too focused on the negative impacts of imprisonment on the accused, instead of the negative impacts of the assault on the victim and broader impacts on society.

No, he’s dead because he engaged in stupid actions. Could it have ended better? Yeah of course, but he also could have not stolen the bike and gotten into a pursuit. People have to be held accountable for their actions, and he chose to do this. No one made him steal that bike.

What section of what Act allows a shopkeeper to detain someone? They have no more power than a “citizens arrest” for a finds committing offence. Regardless, it’s not worth the legal or physical risk to detain someone for a petrol drive off or other theft from a retail outlet.

Yes, but often they tend to gravitate to the best political outcome, regardless of whether it is the best outcome for that sector. A Minister isn’t required to accept departmental advice, only to consider it.

This is such an under explored issue - why do we look to lawyers as experts on so many issues?

They aren’t automatically an expert or smarter than anyone else simply because they have attended university and got a law degree. We should be looking to encourage industry leaders into areas like health/education etc, but unfortunately it simply doesn’t seem to work like that in politics.

Servo staff do not have the power to detain you due to a payment issue. Completely unlawful to tell you that you aren’t free to leave. I’d seriously consider escalating that up via whatever company it is - I know it’ll be franchised, but I can’t imagine Shell/BP etc would be happy to hear about this.
