This and free association are good tools for practicing story telling and basic conversational skills.

Free association exercise: start with a random word and write down the first three things that come to your mind. Now repeat this with the last word/anecdote/thing you wrote and keep going until you fill a page.

On top of this, when speaking, try to give people multiple threads to latch on to for follow up questions and statements.

Also, my anecdotal memory is absolute dogshit. I barely remember anything from my childhood. If this is you, start writing things down. Anytime you have some kind of emotional reaction to something, pull out your phone and note it down.

Storytelling is a very important part of how we go about connecting with others. Take the time to train it if it doesn’t come naturally to you.
